Cheap vs Expensive: Gaming Chair Showdown (I was Stupid)

Ғылым және технология

I compare the most expensive gaming chair that you can buy to one of the cheapest. I spend 12 hours straight in each chair to see what they do to my body.

Honestly, gaming chairs are such a scam. They take cheapo chairs, slap some coolio design on it, and mark it up sixfold to make it seem more appealing than the $20 chair you see at Ross. Go buy yourself a decent ergonomic chair, stencil on "Gaming" on the headrest, and your entire body will thank you. I mean, that's essentially what the Embody is. Hell, go on Marketplace and find someone selling a used Mirra or Aeron and you're still going to have a much better time than that $300 gaming chair with racing stripes

@@Shyvorix One thing I don't understand about this HM chair is why the hell is it not tall enough so you can lean your head too? 10X cheaper chairs have that. Unbeliveable for that kind of price point. As for the recliner, that's the first thing that usually breaks on a chair, so surely they couldn't offer 12 year warranty if they went with that option I assume.

  • @Shyvorix

@@Im_too_old_for_this_shit Cause they've shown research that, for an office chair, meant to be in an office setting, it's unnecessary from an anatomically correct posture standpoint to need a headrest. Your head should be straight up and propped up when you work, and not be tilted up or down when working. The Embody sort of follows a similar philosophy but for the home office, so it's taller so it's possible but there are third party headrests for both. They've said it themselves that it's unnecessary from a posture correctness standpoint. I have an Aeron and it's 100% unnecessary and I've had 0 issues sitting for hours (which is technically not what you're supposed to do, you're supposed to stand 10 to 15 minutes for every 1 to 2 hours to prevent issues such as a deep vein thrombosis or other cardiovascular issues and complications.) But I did get a headrest for relaxing but I don't use it that often all things considered at least when at attention.

@@Shyvorix I'm having significant health problems with my back, so I kinda started watching these HM videos trying to find a right chair. One thing that wasn't clear is the lack of a proper headrest, but thank you for the clarification. Anyway, I still think a headreast would be a good idea. I woudn't use it all the time, if I'm siting there and working something I'll do it in a proper way, but every now and then you just want to watch a 30min youtube video or something, just recline and relax, lift your legs up on the table and enjoy the moment. You know what I mean? For these kind of moments, you really need a headrest. Anyway, you said you own Aeron. Does it support recline/put your legs up on the table mode? If it does, then I guess it's a better option for me than the one in the video.

I would totally buy a Herman Miller if they partnered with Purple. I was having tailbone an circulation problems while on furlough and their rather expensive cushions turned my ergonomic task chair into a kinds throne. My problem with Herman Miller is that they seem to ignore the 8+ hour average use mark to target a more reasonable 4-6 hour rating, with the intention that you're going to take a break at some point. And while yes, you should always get up and stretch every 2 hours, short breaks don't magically solve tailbone strain. If they focused on both long term health and short term comfort then I'd gladly drop over a thousand for a chair like that.

great video! I would like to see one that covers a little more middle ground though. The video was fun but I feel like compairing $150 to $1600 seems a little unfair. You should throw a Secret Labs chair into the mix and maybe some more of the more popular chairs in different price ranges to see if the extra money is actually worth it.

The cheap chair is assembled incorrectly did he read the manual or just yolo'd it for the content? The knob is supposed to control how tense the spring in leaning mode is and the knob should be in front not in the back. For $1600 I would expect neck support to be included this has none and somebody who has serious neck issues and upper back issues can't do without neck support. So for my specific usecase cheaper chair with neck support will do better than $1600 chair.

The best thing to do if you want a good and comfortable chair on the cheap, check different clearances from company offices (or auctions thereof) that closed their doors for one reason or another. Professional office chairs are made for 9 hours of sitting per day, and are usually in the 400-1000 euro/dollar range new, but you can get them for like 20 to 100 euros/dollars. My previous office chair lasted over 10 years and was very comfortable, but the fabric was worn. Now I got two 650 euro chairs for 40 euros (one for me and one for my SO) and they're really comfortable, really well built and the support is perfect.

So I put in some padding then i put in the cutting board and more padding and now this gaming chair feels amazing. With out the extra padding and cutting board my bottom would go so numb from sitting in it all day long.

Can confirm that in my 20's and even in to my 30's it was no big deal sitting in cheap chairs. That changes and it changes hard. Recently spent the money on a "real" chair, a Steelcase Leap V2, and boy does it make a difference. If getting one brand new is a problem, there are places that sell used office furniture or companies that take used high-end chairs like these and refurbish them. The core fit and function is still there, but with some new juice free upholstery and refreshed padding. I went the refurb route because I was somewhat skeptical and figured it was a happy medium starting point. Solid decision I must say. Very pleased and I got a great chair at about half the price of new.

Lucked up on a good deal for the top end AKRacing gaming chair and its still holding up well after 3+ years. Use the chair for gaming, sim racing, and when I worked from home. so I was spend about 18 hours in that chair every day for 2 years and had no back issues at all. the cheap chair would not have worked for that.
