Never used a headlight kit before.. Yesterday, I used 2500 wet sandpaper to remove the nasty film, applied Turtle Wax T-43 Headlight Cleaner & Protectant (polish) to a drill adapter foam pad (China knock-off) and worked the polish at low RPM until it looked like deli mustard (lol), wiped it off and reapplied a small amount at a higher speed to polish w/o sling. The lights came out amazing! Just reapply this Headlight cleaner/wax after a car wash and it should look great for months and possibly longer. *This car is 19 yrs old and derelict the past three years, its a project coming to an end (01 Ford Minivan).

I used a 3M kit on one car and initial results were really good. I sold the car a year after so I can't speak to longevity beyond that. On my current daily driver, I used a different (maybe lower model?) meguiars kit. Instead of a spray clear coat, it had a wipe on self leveling clear coat and a foam thing with hook and loop for the sanding discs. It's been doing well for two years now. The vehicle is out in a fully exposed parking lot 12 hours a day, five days a week and garaged at night. I'd do the meguiars kit again when I have to.

Jimbo, I made my own service kit for headlights with a Meguirs wet sanding sponge, 2000 sandpaper, a drill adapter foam polishing sponge (the cheap knokoff stuff from China), leveling compound for 2000 scratch removal, Turtle Wax T43 headlight cleaner/polish/sealant.. If the lights are all jacked up, sand with 2K until smooth, buff to clarity with fine compound, finish with headlight polish.. Looks amazing.. After a year, the lights look hazy, just buff with the cleaner, takes 10 min for two applications on each light.

i used Meguiar's 2 step on my 2003 Honda Pilot about 3 years ago. The headlights look good if not great still after all this time. I do keep my vehicle garaged however, but it definitely gets driven as I've got 215K on it. I am doing my 2004 Acura at the moment with the left over stuff and expecting similar success. I put more time by hand into the Step 1 than what you see here in the video. I've only tried the Meguiar's but happy with the long term results.

I didn’t use the turtle product like this at all I did it very sloppy and didn’t follow the directions the sandpaper is to small and it did clear up my headlight assembly and for $10 they make my headlight look brand new. The way I did it was to put the compound first I didn’t even buff it in good i then sprayed the lubricant on pad #1 then dried it with the towel then pad #2 on one headlight then dried it and on the second headlight I did same thing but with pad #3 and #4 then the base wipe on both didn’t even let it dry then quickly put the sealing wipe on both like I said very sloppy job but surprisingly they still turned out very clear

Tbh turtle wax works great only if you put effort on it like I mean take time on the headlights because I did that today and it comes out great it might be a cheap product but it all depends on the effort you put on the headlights so what I did was use #1 the course pad like a couple of times on the head lights like ten rounds then #2 the second course pad ten rounds then wipe dry apply the lubricant then #3 pad the smooth pad which I probably think it’s 1000 grit and do another ten rounds and the last and final step is #4 pad the smooth pad to remove the sanding scratches another ten as u can tell I break sweat and tears in the head lights using turtle wax it came out great even tho they gave u direction of what to do but it’s not always true that’s how they get bad reviews then last and final step I use a sponge pad and apply the compound on a drill to polish the headlights I did this like about three times and then wipe dry and after I apply the compound Wth a microfiber towel and let it haze wait about at least a minute or two then do the finger test so swipe one finger on the headlights Wth the compound on it if it smears it’s not ready to wipe off yet if it comes out smooth it’s ready to be wipe off but let every thing dry then use coating wipe and last and final step use lens sealer and it came out shiny like new headlights but I still have yellow oxidation on the inside of the headlights but Thts cool Wth me because of the headlights seal are going bad but it’s ok but for the foremost the product did its job on removing the oxidation on the outside it just takes time and effort Thts all

Not to nitpick, but i got both the TW and the Meguiar's, and was reading along with the instructions. Both say that when switching from one sanding pad to the next, you're supposed to switch directions, alternating between side-to-side and up and down. Might have gotten even better results. Still, they look good, but i reckon they instruct to change sanding directions for a reason. 👍

Hard to tell though, He didn't follow the instructions for the Turtle wax which stated pads 2 and 4 are to be used up and down not side to side. The purpose of this is to reduce the cuts created by the previous pad giving a cleaner, smoother, and clearer final look. By following the same direction for each pad like he did, he did not properly remove cuts in the plastic/coating from the previous pad.

The TW seems to work just as good, with less effort to get the results.

Yeah personally I believe that the turtle Wax one performed it's negligible about how close it was to the other and I believe for the money and the trusted name of both products I think the money savings would be beneficial I mean you don't have to spend more money to get the same result and who cares if you have to do it a few months earlier you know to redo it I mean the Price is Right anyway I'd like my Amazon card LOL

When wet sanding the headlights. The rule of thumb I use is keep going until you see milky white residue coming off. If it's still yellow keep going, milky white, stop.

I'd be interested in seeing how long the TW kit lasts. I've used the same MEG's kit on two headlight sets at the moment and feels like still enough clearcoat left for a third

I don’t ever blame the products i blame the people doing all this wrong. At least wipe it between each sanding.

Just use some mag and aluminum polish, then compound and polish. Then coat it with a uv coating.

By far the best on the market is Autoglym restoration kit as of (Jan 2022) especially if you are a DIY and want to give it a go. Otherwise you'll be paying at least 5 times for the work to be done.

Nice video! Suggestion for future video. With the summer and highway driving my car has tons of bugs. On the hood front grill and windshield. Show us how to remove all them.
