Cheap Truck Challenge! $2500 rigs at The Hammers! New Rules!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the 3rd annual "Clawhammer Challenge". aka Cheap truck challenge format, 6 rigs, $2500 spending limit, one off-road trail, see who makes it! Seeing as how "Ford" has been my entry theme (1st year was a Courier, 2nd year a F-350) it only seems fitting I stick with it! The surprise this year? 7.3 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel! Picked up a t-boned 1996 F-250 4x4 for cheap and proceeded to chop it up and bolt on used 40" tires. The cheap truck competition vehicles consisted of an 85 F-350, 2 1989 Jeep Cherokees, a '78 K5 Blazer, and a S-10 Blazer 4x4. 3 of the 6 cheap rigs broke, a new king was crowned, and there was a new twist no one was ready for!

That shortened 96 power stroke, would be cool to extend the cab to the back of the frame, and make like a super duty bronco.

I’ve had all kinds of wild thoughts like cutting off the back and grafting a bronco onto it. In the end, the frame is pretty bent and the cab is way trashed too.

Love these trucks! I missed the mark making it so short/stiff, but the 7.3/5 speed is awesome on the trail

That any other competitor can buy your vehicle after the event for $3k, which helps keeps entries “in check” and prevents it from being used next year because it cost too much.

@@Chasing518 For sure. How can you not have fun with a 3/4 ton chassis and a big block gasser? I’d get a front locker and steel flatbed. Headers, throttle body, injection, cold air, pulleys. It’s a bolt on monster. Good find, most of those are gone.

Good gah these kids couldn’t take the initiative to weld their diffs at least OR AIR DOWN PROPERLY? Amateur hour. Probably the best mods that could have helped them with these cheap old rigs.

My truck was at 12psi…. Didn’t want to weld the front differential and explode a front axle. The stock stub axles are weak. If it wasn’t raining it wouldn’t have been as bad. The rear diff is locked.

Ya the Fords did good for being so budget. Sometimes gotta risk it for the biscuit though, welding diffs can take you far.. or sometimes break an axle.

Aired up and open front I still broke an axle. Ever think we had a method to our build strategy? Trying to keep stock parts alive for the whole trail ain’t easy.
