Thank you for this video, I have to say I enjoyed seeing you actually using the knife as you were reviewing it, it really helped get the points across, and I did see your other knife review videos. I just subbed, looking forward to more of your great content :)

Thanks! I figured that the best way to actually show off the quality of the blades was to actually show them being used. At least it's what I would want to see :)

My 1st whittle knife still my favorite. Carry one in my pouch or wallet. They stay sharp. Look at a second hand store. I can stick my blade almost half way into a block of basswood

@@CarvingisFun when I 1st started whittling other pocket knives wouldn't work for me and I found it in a drawer. It was rusted shut. Soaked it in oil for a day it came loose but had 5 Nick's in it. I was so stressed out I really wanted to learn how to whittle. Then I'd dull it using any branch I could find. My husband works away from home during the week. So I had to wait for him. After a few times of waiting it took me 2 days to learn how to sharpen it myself. The life and times of the old timers 😀 😉💖

Hi Brian, really like your videos. You wear those fingertapes to protect from cutting yourself. Is there a brand name or something to search with? It seems to be something different to these normal cohesive stretch bandage.

Thanks! I am using self adhering athletic tape, or sometimes called ace wrap. It's the stuff you use to bandage up a hand or arm if injured, only this stuff sticks to itself. I use them like finger guards and reuse them till they look bad :)

@@CarvingisFun Thank you for your reply. Another carver on youtube or maybe in some forum said, he uses some kind of tape with built in cut protection like kevlar fibers. He used it on his support hand, not in the knife hand.

I primarily use them on my main hand to avoid blisters, but have benefited from protecting my thumb when misjudging a paring cut or if I protecting my pointer finger if I want to choke up on the knife a little.

I really like how you don't oversell knives. It's a budget knife and you tune expectations accordingly. That little blade is a winner - I wouldn't know about it's thickness as most other channels don't cover this. Our forefathers did a lot with this type of knife. When the frame extends to cover both ends of blade the knife is called a Canoe - great pattern. Check out Tobias Gibson's channel and website for a wealth of information. Thanks a lot, I'm very tempted. ☺️👍

Woo, just checked out his channel. Awesome stuff! My wife would have an absolute fit if I had that many knives though, and she says I have too many as it is! Also, I don't like to try and push people to buy a knife as each knife and person are different. Some knives I like (my flexcut whittlin jack for example) feel good in my hands but others don't like it. They aren't a "one size fits all" but a "check off all the boxes that apply" kinda deal. My needs are different than yours or other people, and sometimes I need to hand the knife to family and friends and ask them their thoughts to get a different perspective. That is why I carry 3 different knives on me, a flipper blade to easily open with one hand for most of my cutting needs, my multi tool with a variety of knives and tools to fit a specific task, and my carving knife for all my whittling needs. People think I'm crazy, I think I'm practical.

@@CarvingisFun He's an amazingly knowledgeable knife collector. Funny, I don't think if I had his huge collection that I would be happy - I have a modest appetite. And yes, similarly my wife would not be pleased. 😉 In the knife community, which I wasn't even aware of until this year, carrying three knives would not be considered excessive in the slightest. Everyone else thinks it nuts though. At least you don't have a Bowie strapped to your leg. 😁 And we won't mention multiple guns: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6SZ0ZqJltCXqLA.html 😂

Ha! I remember seeing that video years ago and thought he would be walking funny with that shotgun. Quite excessive and highly impractical, even here in the Gunshine... errr the Sunshine State :) Use to carry a Bowie for camping and hiking, now I have a cool survival knife instead.

I've got the knife months back. It was 17$ on Amazon. It's a budget knife. It's not great, but it's decent for beginners. Anything else, you need to get something better. It holds an edge terribly, needs a lot of sharpening and honing and the blade is thicc as a girl lol ( which isn't good ). I've carved a rough spoon with it, so it's not impossible. Again, good for beginners to learn.
