Knife Specs:
- Steel: 1095 Carbon Steel

- Comes sharp out of the box
- Good Edge Retention

    Nice! I have two of these, a Farm an Field and a Tidioute that I have because I collect GEC. I've never whittled in my life, but I've been watching your videos to learn how. Nice to know I can put them to work.

    Nice! Glad you like the knife. That’s the same version I have. Fair review, and I agree that would’ve preferred some roundover on the sides, but not a big deal. Keep up the good work... will stay tuned :-)

    I think the shape of the handle is part of the Farm and Field 'brand'. The Tidioute Pocket Carvers are more rounded. So it depends. There's one other choice, and I have done it twice - the Sambar Stag. I have chosen the Stag models of some other GECs just to get 'rounded' handles. Not all GECs with stag handles have a rounded grip, but some do. I think the Pocket Carvers are a neat model. Liked your video. Appreciated seeing the Pocket Carver in use. Take care. Stay healthy. Thanks.

    They sure know what they're doing at GEC. It's hard to beat. Great review, thanks Brian. 👍 Have you ever seen a Congress pattern knife? I doubt that you'll get one with as good steel (perhaps a Böker or GEC), but you may like them.

    Great review. You mention that you ground down the blade a bit and then honed it to make it to your needs and sharper. Do you think you can do a demo on that, I would love to learn how to do that. Thanks

    I’m new to the hobby and wanting to learn as much as I can as I go along. Is there any concern about the blades not locking in place? Does that in any way limit their usage or increase the likelihood of injury using them? Thanks for posting these very useful videos!

  • @CarvingisFun

    @CarvingisFun

    I have found no need for the blade to lock in place if you arent being overly agressive with the knife and if the knife is of decent quality. For example, the GEC pocker carver and flexcut whittlin jack both don't lock but I feel very comfortable carving basswood with them. Even then, I personally like to wear finger guards just in case.

    Stropping will help, but I do reccomend reducing the edge grind angle of the bevel a bit with 1000 or 2000 grit sandpaper or stone for best results. Contact me on Instagram (if you have it) and I can send some picture examples

    Yes, I suggest you pick one up on Ebay if you can get one. GEC doesn't make the same pattern knife over and over. They tend to make small batches of a few hundred per pattern and side type. Once they are made and sold they move onto a different pattern. It's a cycle but normally they won't make the same pattern again for some time and when they do make it again normally it's a bit different. Since they are considered one of the best production traditional pocket knife companies in the world their knives are heavily collected. Here's a look at the versions they've produced of the 62 pattern over time. greateasterncutlery.net/blog/patterns/62-easy-pocket-congress/
