When set up correctly, push to track can be just as useful/important as push to talk. Glad to see content putting the good ideas out there.

I too, like to use my joystick for a bit of the ol' in and out.

Dug out and dusted off my Trackhat Clip, set it up and played around in MSFS 2020 for a while, and realized just how immersive it can be, makes a great sim awesome, there are even wireless options. Head tracking is reasonably cheap, and actually improved my flying skills. What you do want to get into a habit of doing is creating profiles for the different planes, as you can imagine, cockpits vary in size, some aircraft with a glass cockpit allow for plenty of neck stretching, so you need a few varied profiles. Give it a try

Trackhat is great. I'm using a diy IR "clip" and ordered just the modified camera (modified Opentrack included) from them. PS3 Eye at 125 Hz, 320x240 is very smooth indeed!

I love my TrackHat and find head tracking is a real game changer for flight sims. The only downside I find is that I have to keep the curtains shut if I sim during the day and it’s sunny outside.

@@RuubenMix yea, but the free phone app will let you check to make it works before you buy it. Just a note, if you do go this route you no longer need to use the droidUSB tester open when using the facenoir. I am using usb method as I feel it would be faster than wifi, so I cant vouch for wifi.

Thank you so much. This is awesome. I bought the pc and the phone app. It was about 10$ and I couldnt be happier. I use an external screen and so my laptop cam faces me at a poor angle, I use phone cam and run a usb to the laptop as a connection. Checked it out in flight sim, project cars2 and f1 2019 all work great (after tweaking curves). Only VR I have used is PSVR I would say the tracking is only a few milliseconds laggier. So much more immersive flying in the cockpit.

Nice recommendation. I would pay a fair chunk of change for VR to be implemented like VTOL VR. From a single Dev, that control system (which allows you to use you VR controllers as a virtual joystick and flick actual cockpits buttons negating the need for the keyboard) is so so rewarding/immersion enhancing. Not to mention a lot less shag and hassle to set up.

I literally bought this a week or two ago but haven't used it cause i found it annoying but I cant believe I didn't have a button to toggle it on or off! it makes it so much better Ill probably use it every time i play now.Thank you for uploading this other wise i would have forgotten about it.

Adjust the xyz axis curves, have a toggle on/off, and a button to zero or recenter the ingame camera.

You can also use opentrack and your smartphone for tracking. And you can as well use an Aruco marker with opentrack, which is far more stable than face tracking and probably less cpu intensive.

I have this but can't get the sim to recognise opentrack, have you got it working?

Got it to work.. sort of... Now, when I disengage face tracking, it also disengages my yoke and some mystery control is taking over. When I'm on the ground and looking around with FT and then disengage it, some control takes over and slowly increases throttle. I then quickly have to re-engage the FT in order to get my yoke back and reduce throttle to idle again and slam the brakes. Makes for an interesting time flying, but not quite what I was looking for! I'm sure I can fix this with some tweaking , somewhere... I'll figure it out. But your settings were a life saver to get it to work in the first place. Thanks!

Interesting! Thanks for posting. I used to have TrackIR at least *checks notes* 17-18 years ago...I think. Bloody hell. Used to love it with RB3D, All the ACES series, Combat Flight Sim etc. Had those little grey dots everywhere :-) Just installed MS FS 2020, and immediately thought of Track IR again, but discarded it as I have a triple screen setup and couldn't see the point. However, navigating camera views with the POV hat is still tiresome. Who knew!! Have been playing around with Facetracknoir for a while tonight, ended up with a stiff neck and my curves are all over the place, but I will persevere. Thanks again.

Delanclip with Opentrack is my prefered way of headtracking. Cheaper than TrackIR5.

Good advice to have a 'tracker on/off' control binding. It seems to need a ton of fine tuning as it is SO sensitive, but even then I think this is (for me, anyway) best used only when needed - departures, arrivals, circuits etc - rather than on the whole time. It's a great stop gap until the HP Reverb arrives and MS implements VR in FS2020 (oh, and when the pandemic ends so I can start earning again!). Thanks for the video.

I agree -- it's a fantastic idea! But, HOW does one do that, though? I've gone through the full list of assignable commands within the simulation, and I don't see anything that resembles "Toggle Track Head Cam", or something to that effect. What is the specific command you need to assign to a key to enable this ability?

Glad I found this video, as it may be the answer to my prayers! I've been thinking about going VR for a while, but this systems seems that it will do a similar job for a fraction of the price, yay :-) Question 1 - How do you set up a mobile phone if you haven't got a webcam? Question 2 - How do you operate controls such as the autopilot, NAV, aids, radio etc., when your predominant right hand is operating the joystick? I've tried to use my left hand temporarily to control the joystick whilst my right hand is trying to use the mouse to operate instruments, but I usually end up loosing control of the aircraft!! Its nothing like VR but head tracking is nice , there are seperate head trackers that use your phone just google msfs 2020 head trackign with phone

before I switched to VR i made my own head tracking device using an arduino micro and a mp9250 gyro sensor stuck it on my headphones and whenever I moved my head left or right up or down the screen would do the same. cost me a couple of quid. NIce vid mate latest news is microsoft is not just releasing vr for the g2 but for all headsets although the g2 will be more optimised yay.

You can use the official TrackIR lights or a DIY clip and it works really well with facetracknoir!

Build my own years ago and i even use it when i dont want to race in VR. Another affordable option is getting a cam from Trackhat (sony cam prepared) and build your own clip (3d printed or with some aluminium tubes). I made my clip with a RCR123 battery. Not for the money but because there was no good wireless option on the market.

FaceTrackNoIR is really good, but you need to have a good lighting on your face for it to work properly. I couldn't make it work so instead of TrackIR, i bought DelanClip and PS3 eye camera (75Hz in 640x480). Works like a charm.

I have had a real problem with trackIR, and I recently wasted money on buying TrackHat, because I thought it may be better, but I have since realised that what the problem is, is because I wear glasses, and the reflection is interfering with the Infrared, so I would really like to know if facetracknoir will work well with people that wear glasses. I'm guessing it would, because the clue is in the name "noir", so no infrared. Certainly looks pretty good, and is cheap enough to buy, so I guess I'll have to give it a try.

The Delanclip is made in the UK and playstation eye cam is 75htz. It is a lot sturdier than Trackir

Looks quite good, would I be able to use the same phone I'm using for my Simhub dash? It is pointing at me and connected via USB already.

Just a word of caution. I tried this and found out that you need a really good webcam. One that is really clear and good quality. I had a cheap webcam that i use for web meetings, so i tried facetracknoir with it and its reallly laggy. I was getting 10-13hz on the fps. I tried to use my iphone 11 and boom it was tracking with no noticable lag. The front cam on the iphone 11 shoots 4k, i dont know if you need a 4k webcam or anything but its definitely gotta be a good one.

The ps3 camera used with led clips can provide up to 120hz, which makes motions much smoother, thats the reason using it, beside that its cheap. Happy seaing!

Apologies for a little brusqueness but I've just been yelling at you on-screen. This was a review of head tracking software. Last time I checked my head essentially moves in four directions when facing the front. You showed us Left, Right and Down. What did you forget ? Yep straight, flipping up !! Just a tad important for fighter pilots trying to see planes above them. Sheesh...!!! OK apart from that a great review.

Playstation 3 (PS Eye) camera can be had for £4.50 delivered from CEX and will work fine. The is also the 'edtracker' solution that uses imu/gyros.

And that camera is 60fps which is an added bonus for face tracking.

If you have a VR headset there's another solution, you can use opentrack and emulate track IR taking the oculus/steam vr tracking input of your headset. The precision is very high, the same quality you would spect from VR, the downside is that you have to wear your headset like a hat and it can be unconfortable. Also opentrack is free, it does have more features but I don't know if it can work with a cam like facetrack does.

Only problem I have with IR track is the interface when using ultra hd monitor, cant read text, cant find how to scale text for hires DPI.

How do you set it up to enable/disable face tracking without having to use the Facetracknoir software start/stop button? You mentioned mapping a switch on your joystick...

Was going to have a look at this but when clicking the link on the download page all I get is a "Connection reset" error message, doesn't seem to be a viable way to contact them either other than a few forum links that are years out of date or obsolete. Shame really.

Aruco /w Opentrack is the best combination of free & quality head tracking.

There are much cheaper options than TrackIR that do exactly the same thing, such as Delanclip or Trackhat. This delay with this kind of tracking seems a bit high really, there's quite some lag between when you turn your head and the view starts to move. I got a Delanclip and camera setup the other day using Opentrack and it's working really good for me, there's still a bit of a delay but I think that probably comes down the camera you use actually. Higher Hz would definitely help I think, the PS3 camera I happened to have lying around is good though, as you can set it to run at 75 Hz, so faster than framerate of the sim. Moving left/right/forward/back is excellent with it too, leaning to look over the nose and to the side to see the ground is very natural.

You can use this with a head clip if you want and I think Delan clip uses the same base software framework as this. it will look delayed in this video becuse I put smoothing on and I like to use it in a specifc way.

Should work for Euro truck sim stuff not good for Race sims but yah i think it can fool euro truck ATC into thinking its Track ir. Not tried it though so don't know for sure. there might be some free apss out there that work as well that you could try.

I use TrackHat, so instead of a Declan Clip i've got a baseball cap with LED built in as i tend not to wear headphones when i gaming

Hi mate. When i start FS the visual is not straight.. how i can fix a "zero point"?

The hardware requirements for this title are a bit mental - although playing at 30 fps is probably fine. I use TrackIR for sim racing and it's ok, well other than the fact that the pro clip that uses a 3-point LED setup isn't wireless. I know you wouldn't bother since you have VR anyway but seeing you try out TrackIR for sim racing would also be interesting - although it isn't a 1-to-1 representation of looking around in a car which I think you noted one time etc...

Its crap for simracing as it dislocates you from the car movment and you dont need to look around in a car anway once you know track layout and have something like heli corsa :)

So how do I set this up? I bought the thing and at the point of installing the plugin for FaceAPI now, but what do I select as game? Because MSFS 2020 is not there.

Ok so I found out you can just start FaceTrackNoIR, select the FreeTrack 2.1 protocol. Then in MSFS in the controls you should see one tracker has been added. You don't need to configure any buttons axis in here!!!! Just launch the game and it will work. Play around with the curves in the FaceTrackNoIR until you like it.

@@PuckStar playing with the curves is super important for a fluid and comfortable expetience. I use trackIR for the IL2 STURMOVIK series which is a combat flight SIM, and your have to turn around to check your 6 all the time. Find a cruve setup thats comfortable and bu olding muscle memory towards it is very underrated.

Can someone tell me how to enable it in the sim? The tracking works but I can´t get it in the game

Great video thank you. I just purchased FaceTrack No IR, but having troubles setting it up. Do you by chance have a Profile.ini that could be shared for MSFS2020? Or even some closeup screenshots of your settings? Appreciate any help you can provide.

Carefull with that software. I tried it and now I have no keyboard inputs in the game anymore. Deinstalling didnt change that unfortunately. So now my install of MSFS2020 is basically broken. Any ideas? EDIT: Using a restore point to before I installed the software solved it.

I don't know why they don't just make a pro and a Pro model TrackIR which is the same thing sa it is now except maybe do a little bit of an update and then make a "gamer" model/software that's just like 40 bucks and is still pretty good. This is great for cheap tho so that's nice lol.

they do not work on this anymore, FaceTrackNoIR v200 was in 2016 all ready.

FaceTrack Noir looks like a really cheesy detective movie.

I just got my TrackIR5 from China last week which I bought for 76,50 Euro on Ebay (seller: aikermall). I haven't tried it yet, since my display is broken and using VR in the meantime, but looks like the legit TrackIR5 with it's usual flimsy quality and took 11 days to get it. There is also an alternative called TrackHat from the UK and should be better quality from the hardware, but they need 5+ weeks to dispatch the order.

Yah there is a chinise rip off "cloan" of track IR floating around on Ebay uses same ripped software lol from my research its basically exactly the same , they even printed natural point logo on the chip in the webcam part lol.
