SmoothTrack - Detailed Setup Tutorial

Ойындар

Get it at the iOS App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/smootht...
Get it at the Play Store: play.google.com/apps/testing/...
Here are the detailed instructions in writing (see also my web site at ):
On your PC:
- On your computer, install and run the free program OpenTrack.
- Press the Windows key - type "Firewall" - "Firewall & Network Protection" - "Advanced Settings" - Inbound Rules - New Rule... - Program - Program Path to opentrack.exe (probably "c:\program files (x86)\opentrack\opentrack.exe")
- Right click on your network symbol at the bottom right of Windows, choose "Open Network & Internet Settings" - Change Connection Properties - Choose "Private" instead of "Public" (this will make your PC discoverable to your mobile device)
- Press the Windows key - "Command Prompt" - type "ipconfig". Find your local IPv4 address (normally starts with 192.168... but maybe 10.0... or theoretically something else)
- Now restart OpenTrack.
- In Input, choose UDP and open up the settings and note the port (probably 4242).
- As Output, choose "Freetrack 2.0 Enhanced" and "Both" in its settings.
- In Options, bind a hotkey of your choice to "Center" (say, F10)
- Press Start in OpenTrack.
On your mobile device:
- (If you have more than one wifi around you to connect to, then in your phone, set any other wifis "Auto-Join" to "off")
- Now restart SmoothTrack.
- As "IP address" in SmoothTrack, enter the local IPv4 address from above.
- As "Port", enter the port from above.
- Press Play.

@John - noticed setting it up as a "Private Network" does not seem to work unless you have an established Private Network (which makes sense). For those are connected via WiFi, these are generally set to public upon setup, so many may have issues connecting.

And don't forget to turn off your VPN on your Phone (and maybe PC), also don't expect the 3 XYZ axes to show (as per video) instead the octopus in OpenTrack will move/turn as soon as you press start, run the app and toggle Paused to Running.

Trying to figure out if I need to buy this because i have already purchased opentrack for $2 and its not letting FS2020 recognize the software. So I either buy the full game which is currently like $50 or I purchase something else that works. which IDK how its going to work because the app needs permission from the .exe file and you dont have permissions to use the exe file.

Thank you so much for this app!! I was thinking about getting a trackir setup and found this app "by accident". I was a bit suspicious about the android app (being still labeld beta on msfsaddons.org) but decided to give it a try. I regret nothing. It works soooo well and after a few test flights to tweak the mappings and deadzones it even exceeds my expectations of trackir. So for everyone thinking about getting a head tracking setup for msfs2020 or in general. Support this man an and give it a try! It's worth it.

John, I got to install the app and mess with it tonight. Absoutely brilliant work. The set-up you described here was perfect and I grabbed sample curves from another KZread just as a baseline. With minimal tweaks this was a seamless experience. It is truly game changing to use as you can crank up the graphics and not feel the stutter, because your head movements "feel" smooth to you as a person versus dragging the mouse to look around. The fact that this is achieved without a wearable is even better. My wife was a bit freaked out when I leaned forward in my chair and physically looked out the window of the plane as the game emulated my actions. I will drop you a fantastic review on the Google play store and make sure I mention this as a must-have to all my friends. Hats off to you, sir.

I just got it and used in MSFS2020. It works. Because it connects to your PC your phone and PC have to be on the same network. On routers make sure it allows the WIFI network to access the LAN network if your PC is wired. Also, the phone needs to pass through the firewall setting on the PC (if on) to get to the Opentrack service.

Tried it out today - works surprisingly well! I did have some issues with latency that was starting to make me feel ill but that's probably due to running it over wifi (I believe my phone is powerful enough so that's not the issue). I noticed some other comments asking about a wired mode, so definitely looking forward to that implementation some day. Otherwise it's not too bad, and I imagine it'd be just fine for flight simming - sim racing, on the other hand, requires a bit less latency so I'll keep my eye on this project for updates :)

I bought it and I can say it's worth the money. Works well. I think some things should be improved, such as being able to install it on older cell phones, because the battery consumption and heating were not so worrying on an older cell phone, but the ones I have can't install Google Play Services for AR. Another thing I noticed is that I have to constantly center the image. Otherwise it works very well and in wireless mode it has very little lag, almost unnoticed.

John, I absolutely love your software, it is amazing. I had some problems, which had no guide on the internet whatsoever. I have a wifi adapter but the connection is always poor so I would rather not use it, instead I opted out for ethernet cable. But, basically my ISP blocks port forwarding (tried to call them to enable it to no avail). I managed to make a set up through a virtual network using Hamachi. It is a bit finicky since you have to mess around and set the by default Hamachi connection from public to private through powershell. If anyone has troubles with port forwarding, please reply to this and I will make a guide for the workaround. By the way, I did this in windows 10, I have no idea how to do this under other systems. I am pretty sure win 11 is similar.

Hi John: I installed your app late last night. I think I did everything your excellent tutorial advised and the app seemed to work on my first and only test flight. However, there were a couple of issues I wanted to clarify to be certain I didn't overlook anything from your tutorial: 1. The main app screen on my I-phone differs from the screen shown in this tutorial. I have a grey rectangle on-screen that has Sensitivity / Offset controls in the form of six white circles. One each for X, Y and Z and one each for Yaw, Pitch and Roll. In the upper right hand corner of this rectangle is a Reset button. I expect you have simply revised your screen design from the initial app, but I wanted to be sure I didn't overlook some setting from your tutorial. 2. In the video image of me on the app screen, there are no red x, green Y or blue Z axes projecting from my nose! Everything seemed to work fine in my test flight but feel there may be some benefit to "centering'" by having those axes visible. Again, did I miss an installation step? I would appreciate your validating that my two issues are OK or suggestions on what I need to do to correct for them. Thanks. Nifty app. I will be testing it more completely today.

I definitely want to give this a try. Does it happen to work with Star Citizen as far as you know? Going to try this out! Thanks for making it 👍🏻

I can believe this works well in MSFS which is not very demanding but I fly IL2 and use EDTracker because TrackIR sometimes gets lost when I am whipping my head around frantically in a scissors fight. If this worked as reliably as EDTracker plus gave me back full 6DOF I would be very tempted but I don't want to spend £10 just to find it also struggles in combat and I have to return to EDTracker. If there was a 30 day trial I might try it.

Hey, very nice app, I'm using the Android version since last week, and it is working very well! One question: in the video, there are arrows on your head in the preview image of the app. I assume they help with aligning the offsets, but I cannot find how to turn the arrows on in the Android app. Are they iOS exclusive?

Great vid. This helped me to set it all up, works for me in Microsoft flight sim 2020, Euro Truck sim 2 and American truck sim. Just abit of feedback, the audio in this is not the greatest, after watching it I went on to another KZread vid and nearly deafened myself.

This works damn near perfectly for me in DCS World. I see a lot of people struggling with the app and I don't undestand how. Instructions on this video and in the app were pretty straightfoward and clear. A lot of people talking about the "drawbacks" clearly haven't tried this. I put my phone right behind my keyboard and right below my monitor and its the perfect spot. Easier, cheaper, and a lot more elegant than any TrackIR system I've ever seen or used. 10/10 would recommend and the fact its only 10 dollars amazes me.

Hi John, please consider adding a test app, so we can test how it works. I wouldn't mind an app that runs for a minute or so just to see how it works in my pc and games !

Hi John. Thanks for your time - can you please provide clearer instructions for applying the MFS2020 profile, as it comes up as shaded out when I simply drop it into the open track documents folder. Secondly, is there a way to calibrate the software so I don’t need to turn my head so much to look around the flight deck? Cheers

John, is it possible to bind "Toggle" to the right mouse button? That would be super convenient because typically you are pointing at a switch or something with the mouse and clicking with the left button. Would be great to be able to freeze with the right button.

Hi just bought this and it’s amazingly good. I’m using it on msfs2020 and I do have one big issue, in the setup within the game it recognizes trackir but if I choose that option instead of the joystick I can’t use the joystick, and on the trackir settings in the game there isn’t any options at all. Any suggestions on how to use the trackir AND the joystick? Cheers

Hi @John Goering, I purchased this app tonight. I followed all set up instructions and I got the Octopus to track my movement. I also followed the instructions for Star Citizen, but when I launch SC, It does not track at all while in game. When I check the open track software it seems to be tracking my head movements still, just not in Star Citizen (patch 3.17.5)

So the game your playing will automatically have the tracking enabled? Or do you have to set something in game specifically? Star Wars Squadrons for instance?

Hello I bought it and I very appreciate your tool especially for take off or landing in MSFS2020. The only problem its when I look near of avionic instruments and buttons the camera move a bit too much for clicking some buttons. Do you have an example of mapping setup of Openstrack or your .ini file for msfs2020 ? Thanks in advance :)
