How to mod a TrackIR TrackClip Pro to make it wireless!

Ойындар

Another project I had been thinking about for a while and finally got round to completing it. I purchased a NaturalPoint TrackIR with the standard TrackClip a long time ago and later also purchased a TrackClip Pro as a separate accessory.
Like TrackIR a TrackClip Pro uses a USB cable and having a cable running from headphones that were already wireless was getting a bit annoying. So I decided to see if the TrackClip Pro could be modded to make it wireless and this video is the result 😉

These cables for the Pro Clip have been annoying me for months. SO glad I happened upon your video today. Like you, I thought for some reason the USB had a PURPOSE to be connected to pc. Once you started, it dawned upon my stupid brain. I will now be looking for the items to convert this unit and be FREE once again. lol. Thank you so VERY much for this. Not sure why Track IR has not just come out with a wireless PRO setup that can be recharged. We are in the world of wireless. You have my sub and Great description and content.

My USB got torn a few years ago, so I just bought a 9V battery connector, a switch and a case for the 9v. Soldered them directly to the leads. The Track Clip pro is nice, but terribly built.

Yeah, I'm hearing they break very easily. I haven't broken mine yet, but I can see that the USB cable likes to twist A LOT. I also adjust it constantly so that it's as far away from my head as possible (which I heard was the right way so your head doesn't block the leads when you turn). Since the Pro's break a lot, people are recommending the Delanclip IR clip because it's made of metal so I will probably buy one of those.

@@evolgenius1150 I have ruined two by now. The joint between the "light fixture" (the thing that holds the three lights) and the rod comming out of the headset mounting piece is notoriously bad. I have soldered the wires inside the little light fixture several times on my second one. Instead of buying a new one, I was able to take out the lights from the first one and put them in the frame of the second one. As my first one had a broken joint and the second had the tiny cables inside the fixture broken beyond repair. I did order a wireless one from Ebay, the chinese TiR clone due to it being chargeable and wireless. It did seem a lot sturdier, but it didn't last more than a couple of months before it refused to charge.

Super ... Can you talk about the adjustment of the Pro Track. My understanding was that you could move the device in all direction to adjust to the camera... that apparently is not true for me at least. I can move the arm up and down but the led arm only twists left and right and not very far ? Am I missing something ? Also what on earth does the 90 180 and 270 Camera setting do ? My camera is High I want to point the Head Thing at my camera from a higher place ... cant do it. Help us Obiwan - your the only 1. While we are at it what does the LIMIT feature mean in the PROFILEs - documentation doesnt help, Im from another planet I guess.

There is a position limit with either the standard track clip or the pro, if you turn too far the reflective surfaces on the clip are hidden or the LEDs on the pro don't hit the sensor. I pretty much just use the default settings and then use the graph on the lower left to set the movement limits so when in a left hand drive car, enough movement to see the left side wing mirror and enough to look out the right side window. And the same for up and down. And I also have different profiles for each sim racing title since the field of view or other aspects might be different.

Adding a power bank, no matter how small, would add extra weight on your headset. Plus if you forgot about it and your headset went bad, you'd end up throwing the whole thing away. Though a portable power bank is a good idea. If you don't want to go through the steps of cutting wires, a simple cell phone solar powered battery pack would do and just set it on your desk somewhere out of the way.
