Cheap 3D Pen + Polysmooth Filament // Smoothing my 3D Pen Pet Piñama

Ғылым және технология

It's another 3D Pen Rejected Animal : Spoike the Piñama! It was a wild ride making this one, and a great learning experience :) My cheapest 3D pen did a pretty good job, but couldn't handle the continuous hours all the way through... Let your pen cool down every hour or so!

4:00 This is probably a good way to test filament if you are wondering if it has absorbed too much humidity. Don't risk a messed up print or hot-end woes. Just run it through a $10 3d pen off of Wish and see if it bubbles up.

  • @elmariachi5133

It's not just the humidity, it's the IPA that actually dissolves most kinds of hot glue. It's good for removing hot glue residue from textiles and anything. :)

Nice little pet you created there 😘👍... Regarding the "more smoothing or not": at least for Spoike, I wouldn't do any more for him - the remaining structure fits pretty well as a "shaggy fur" effect, and that suits your new friend to a "T", as does the additional up-and-down layer of "fur" you put on the legs 😃...

I'd consider using, or ghetto engineering, a humidifier for smoothing. It's a purely theoretical idea but the resulting mist might disperse IPA or acetone better and into a smaller particle mist to affect 3D prints or models. An ultrasonic cleaner might work just as well too.

From my experience in doll modification and using acetone to smooth out areas, while it will take MUCH longer I highly recommend just using a tissue and rubbing the acetone on to the piece. I've always had success with that, given you don't hold the tissue in place and get it stuck on the model.
