Nice video, why not aliens? Nice Pen, and I love that CPE filament. Really cool concept, thanks for sharing.
Devin - you are a workhorse. And did I mention, that you are my favorite maker!!
Make the Millennium Falcon! It has a much lower center of mass, please!!
That’s really nice how you just Laughed after it crashed. Great job man!!
LMAO! The Intro took me out 😂
I'm glad to hear that the pen earned your stamp of approval, since I got the exact same model for my birthday a couple of days ago, on the strength of your review of the Super. It's my first 3D pen and I'm loving it so far!
It actually moved like an UFO in those early 20th centur black and white movies!

Thank you so much Davin! I just bought a mynt and I'm so excited, I can't wait to make some things with it
10:04 Cute...
You mentioned that the UFO was getting top-heavy, but the instability was likely from a larger moment of inertia. Having the rings so far from the center of gravity causes it to over-compensate, which is why people don't get these problems when mounting accessories close to the center of the drone. The Mavic is designed with its PID values tuned to its moment and mass, but with something like a race quad you can adjust those values and stabilize the flight. All the same, great showcase of the Mynt3D Pro!
Great video! I love drones and UFOs! Can’t wait for build #2!
All I can say is that was a great attempt! Good job.
Welcome to the world of RC crashes :D
My guess would be that the clipping propeller caused the actual crash. The propeller clipping was slowing it down which was also making it drift backwards.
@make.anything
3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that had something to do with it.. although the drift could also be from weight imbalance
@hootsmin
3 жыл бұрын
@@make.anything This guy is right I think, I could see it coming. The propeller clipping the structure meant that the propeller wasn't producing thrust correctly and this threw off the control software which attempted to compensate and crashed the craft. Might even have plain stuck the propeller watching it back again.
Devin, you ALWAYS put a smile on my face when I watch your videos, amazing work, and ideas! keep going! Love your channel
Love it. Thanks Devin
LOL That intro tho.....on point.
26th comment! I love your channel! You inspired me to buy a 3d printer a few years ago... Now I have 5... You sucked me into this alternate 3d printer universe! I LOVE this!
Cool! I gotta get me a 3d pen & try something like this with my Mavic Pro :-) Very nice concept Devin

That is super surprising that Myt3d worked for you. I bought a classroom set and even with 2nd generation pens still got some problems. Glad they worked for you Devin. Keep making cool stuff!
"It can carry at most 2 pound. I know that doesn't sound like much" I mean, it's about $4 AUD. that can buy you some chocolate... or 2 bottles of milk
Devin, you're the coolest.
You’re literally the best!
Amazing work👍
That intro legitimately shook me to my core.
This guy deserves way more subs because his ideas are always so great
This is awesome. Dude, SO much work but its great.
With drones you also have to consider that if you put something that drags with the air moved by the propeller it is going to increase the load put on those motors to fly. In this case the weight added wasn't a lot but there probably was a lot of drag with air and the drone couldn't handle it.
Have you thought about making a vacuum table and a ufo mold. A plastic shell would be lightweight and you could cut vent holes for airflow.
year 3012: engineers: We need more reload for 3D pens!
Printing the rings would definitely make it sturdier.
Thanks for the conversion into the other imperial unit ;)
Another fun to watch video.
Incredible Work 👍
This guy never give up! never afraid to share his failure , keep it up !
I'm very glad that the UFO is the only thing that got hit, propellers + skin = stitches.
Awesome!
You should send that intro in as your audition to be on Stranger Things!
Great project. Must be frustrating spending so much manual time making something then having it destroyed in seconds. I think using the 3D printer combined with the 3D pen you could build some structures efficiently. Maybe designing some of those 3D printed sub structures then combining with the 3D pen might work out well.

I have a Mavic Mini that is made to be flown indoors, but it's still kinda scary.
That was amazing!! Love your ideas! I was also wondering if you could do a orange VW Beatle?
Maybe use your wood cnc to cut the shapes you need quickly, then trance over those shapes with the 3d pen? You'll get a lot more precise shapes and hopefully balance. Fantastic video by the way, the amount of work you put into these projects is insane!
@make.anything
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I was debating bringing the CNC into this, some precision is certainly called for :P
I would like to see a fully/ mostly printed version. I feel like the modeling would take forever but it would be so worth in the end for the balance issues
How about 3D printing a jig of some kind to speed up the welding process? Especially for those trusses. Hard to describe what I'm thinking... but imagine starting with a flat triangle. The triangle would have 3 holes, one near each corner. Now extrude that triangle out into 3D... say 2 or 3cm. Now insert into the 3 holes, your 3 filaments for the truss structure. The jig holds them in place, and speeds up the welding process.
Unless you can tune the drone's firmware , I suspect you'll suffer instability if you change the drone's angular momentum i.e. any weight that is spread out from the centre . So, try to minimize the height and width of your saucer.
I really love your website 😍😍😍
Oh I felt that too. But for a moment there it was epic. And you got the footage. I think mylar around an open cone "dome" might give you the effect you want. Just mylar sheeting on the outside, but not under or above, so the blades keep going. Then there's the issue of wobble. your rig was too flexible and bent too much, bending into the blades and destabilizing the flight. A central post up through the dome from the body of the drone?
Hey, nice work, a creative mind inspiring others at the time experiments it self. Have a great day, new suscriber.
11:31 That was the sound of inevitability :P
Me coming to this video expecting a traditional review of a 3D pen: 👁️✨👁️ Me leaving after this wild ride: 👾👾👾
That intro though haha
Great job! I would build from the drone up don’t add any extra legs and make it smaller with a little alien inside the dome. Like an outer circle ring above the blades then a dome. Hope that makes sense lol. Have fun making!
U could 3D print a single shell vase mode dome for the next version of ufo
@SuperBilly008
3 жыл бұрын
Also add some lead weight to the legs on the main ufo frame to add some balance stability
Print surfaces (1 layer thick, no top/bottom, ~10% star or triangle infill, 200% extrusion width), bend, glue, repeat.
In this episode of make anything Devin trys mushrooms he found in the woods
Your Content Are Awesome i Mean I like It
Nice 👍
What if you use thin tissue paper or rice paper to add color and opaqueness to the dome and ship body instead of filament? It could keep the weight down. As I type this, I'm guessing it would block the airflow to the drone, but I don't know enough about this stuff to know for sure.
I would think that dome's biggest problem is changing the airflow to the props, not just that it makes it top heavy.
@make.anything

Yea, I'm battling a lot of forces here!
Actually a great demonstration w/ some handy tricks and also gives a pretty good idea in general of what's possible with these glorified sorta 'hot glue guns'. And love your 'focus'... lotsa folks have great ideas, but often lack the necessary 'tenacity'. BTW, maybe start with a larger dome wide enuff to enclose the blades, and then add a slightly larger 'disk shape' w/ landing gear _below_ it. Cheers!
I would personally have made the dome on top a bit shorter, or more of a half oval (I forget the name of it since it isn't an egg but more of a skinny sphere in a sense) since the dome on top probably made the filament bend down towards the blades and was the downfall. Maybe trusses in the main body (avoiding the blades obviously) might help prevent the filament from getting shredded. I hope this helps and best wishes!
Omg, the intro - that was out of character. lol
Put a bunch of LEDs on it and fly it at low altitudes to mess with people.

t would be cool if you could add a little alien guy inside. It was a fun project tho.
Og Wonka ftw
My gut feeling is it was the structure interfering with the Mavics obstacle avoidance sensors, that’s why it gradually got more and more unstable. If it’s possible to go to a more manual flight mode perhaps with a bit more room (10ft instead of 8ft lol) you’ll be fine!
Looks amazing
dat intro tho!
hi Devin, I wonder if TPU fillament can be postprocessed, painted and that kind of thing, but I can't find too much information about it, you know something about that?, I tried to find the better fillament for me, thaks, that intro has make my day!! hahaha, nice ^_^ it's been a very very fun video, you're making it better every day ^_^

I haven't experimented with that much. TPU is pretty chemical resistant, I don't know of any smoothing techniques for example (would be awesome). It looks like you can paint TPU alright if you prime it first and keep the paint layer thin, but it will also depend on the part and use case. I painted my flexible drum stool feet with cheap acrylic paint and it worked well enough! :)
Hey Devin! I have 2 questions for you. 1. What do you think your easiest puzzle is? 2. What colors of matte filiment did you use for the Neapolitan color scheme on one of your puzzles?
I know you've used the 3dsimo mini in the past, but I think it would be awesome if you could do a review of the 3dsimo kit 2 if you haven't already since it's a modular open source 3d pen
Maybe add some counterweight to the bottom?
I think a mustang p51 drone frame would look cool. Airbags has a drone plane and but it's a small one.
This explained what i see last night, 2020 is not that bad.
petition to bring back pegboards!

For the MYNT3D pen, do you find your hand gets tired after working for a while from holding the button down? I have arthritis n carpal tunnel and my hands get tires quite quickly, do you have to put much pressure on the button? Im thinking of getting a pen that has an “auto-extrude” button so to speak, but am worried i won't be able to get as much detail as i want with an auto pen. If anyone else (or yourself) have any recommendations on pens that are ergonomically well made that would be great! Fantastic vid btw its epic 😆
