Charlie saw what was coming and he remained Charlie until the end. Great man behind that great voice. Say hello to Don for me.
Charlie nailed it. Sadly stations today are all voice tracked and the announcers are lifeless. Thanks for this great tribute and thank you Charlie for being such a great DJ 😎
Charlie Tuna and Don Steele were not only innovators and pioneers of broadcasting, they were absolutely essential "Bullshit Detectors," and erudite critics of what they each witnessed as the "end of radio." They both, in their unique and distinctly different formats, predicted the current format of prerecorded garbage passed as live broadcasting like BOB fm or Charlie FM.
I just found this. Funny guy, never afraid to share the mike with his news and traffic reporters. I missed being on the air with him after our KLAC days ended and he moved on to KBIG. Rest in peace Charlie.
1 of the great voices of all time. R.I.P Charlie Tuna

Shame on me for forgetting...Mark Dennis and Brian Beirne, AKA "Mr. Rock and Roll" on K-Earth 101. Love how you ended this with the candle and great song choice.

I think he was part of a tandem with M.G. (Machine Gun) Kelly, too, at one time.
I remember Charlie Tuna was in the old movie “Rollercoaster,” filmed in pre-Six Flags Magic Mountain. We grew up on him at “🎵93 KHJ ... Los ANNNNGELESSSssss 🎵” I consider myself fortunate for that. ✌️
hasn't had tthe best week. First, I found out John Larsh, no longer, is with us...now, this. R.I.P., you two radio gods, of mine. Thanks, Mr. Vuolo. Oh, and, I remember that "Confucius say" bit, from a VHS tape my best friend made for me, in '86. It featured Vancouver, B.C. t.v. spots for radio stations, some other t.v. spots for radio and...your VVAs, two hours worth, iirc.
Caught Charlie Tuna show on AFRTS (AFN) mornings late 70s .. He gave us California Sunshine every morning All the way To Kaiserslautern West Germany. Godspeed and Thanks..
Love you, Charlie. Thanks for the memories.
Listened to him on AFRTS radio in Japan. What a voice what a personality. There will always be only one Charlie Tuna.

I heard him on 1359 KHz, Radio Comet at Osan Air Base, 1974-1976. I was fortunate to listen to him before I joined the Air Force, on KRLA and KHJ,
Charlie Tuna and Gary Gears had the best pipes in all of radio. Charlie was the best wit in radio.
I didn't know that Charlie had passed.........He was the best at putting listeners LIVE on the air when they telephoned the station.....Heck, he invented it!!! He famously requested that Bo Derek call the station (KHTZ) following the movie "10". Someone actually burned "Call Charlie Tuna" into her front yard, and she called! Charlie graciously apologized to Bo live on the air following the incident.......And a great conversation ensued....A few days later, I called him at KHTZ and said, "I wanna talk about Bo Derek; When she called, I almost.." Charlie cut-in and said, "Yeah, I almost did too!" I taped our conversation while it was on the air, and feel as if I was the lucky one every time I listen to it.........RIP Charlie, and play some 70s and 80s stuff up there in Heaven! GBY.
Very nicely done to honor a radio legend! I listened to Charlie when he was at KOMA.
I used to sneak my radio onto the playground in elementary school and listen to Charlie Tuna on KHJ during lunch and recess.
Thank you Charlie tuna For all you did For The Listeners every Where you're a legend that won't be forgotten
Thank you, Art Vuolo, Jr. RIP Charlie Tuna/Art Ferguson. You're already missed.
One of the best radio broadcasters I've ever heard.
As I get older, 71 doesn't seem to be that old now. SCARY.

RIP TO CHARLIE TUNA. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.
Charlie Tuna was the guy I wanted to be on radio when I grew up. While Charlie was on KG-Foo way back when, I also worked at KGFW in Kearney, Nebraska back in the 70s. It was our home town! Whenever I had the opportunity to visit with him, he always took the time, and always provided his comments to me on Facebook. Rest in Peace my friend! - Randy, KHS Class of 77
Sad to hear another ICON has passed. Listened to him in California, and around the World on AFRTS, and most recently as Charlie Luna on "Shushybye" R.I.P. Charlie!
So, I have dozens of Boss 30 charts from 1967-1972. I sent an email to Charlie Tuna years ago because he supported a children's hospital charity. I offered to give him the charts so perhaps he could sell them and then split the profits between his charity and my local children's hospital. I never heard back. Maybe they're only worth their sentimental value. May he rest in peace. Thanks for being a part of my childhood, Charlie.
Hits the post like a champ
automation killed the radio star and then, well, radio itself. goodbye radio
Art, this is wonderful! I don't know how you kept it under 10 minutes...Charlie was such an incredible talent!
I'm pretty sure I listened on KRLA and KRTH. Charlie Tuna you are missed. Radio the way it was meant to be is missed.
Can't believe it has been 8 years since his passing. RIP Arthur W. "Charlie Tuna" Ferguson.
What an Awesome Tribute. Charlie was my favorite radio personality of All Time. Loved his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be missed. Thank you for this video Art.
He was the announcer for the America's Top 10, hosted by Casey Kasem!!!!!
man. Would have been a blast to watch the entire video recording for those Airchecks. Time sure flies.
Excellent tribute.
He was on weekday mornings at 9 AM on AFRTS affiliated stations. Don't forget Larry McKay, Wolfman Jack, and many others.
I've spent 50 years in mainly (Country) radio. I never had the chance to work with CHARLIE TUNA. But the man was one of the best RADIO PERSONALITIES of all time. I remember hearing his weekly show on Armed Forces Radio on GUAM in 1975. He was an inspiration for my own radio career. RIP sir.
Charlie tuna you are an inspiration thank you for paving the way for on air personalities like myself and future DJs Charlie tuna will be remembered as haveing a richness and deepness in his voice rare what you find in DJ most DJ voices are clear. I’m glad I’m not that type of DJ with a clear voice. I’m glad I have some depth and deepness to my voice Charlie tuna will always be considered one of the best thanks buddy. You will never be forgotten.
I always listened to KRLA and the Tuna.
wow how sad ...from this former radio jock..from here in Albuquerque who remembers the great Los Angeles radio voice. ..his passing wow...a great guy and super radio voice. .R.I.P. you Ioatola of radio..The Great Charlie Tuna. I will miss ya sir.
Goddamn Legend! I 1st Focused on him Back in January 1976 when he did Mornings on KIIS FM, 102.7, Way Before Rick Dees & Now Current Ryan Seacrest Held the Morning Spot on KIIS. Anyway... Charlie Used to Spotlight this Now Defunct Restaurant, Al Penni's in Suburban Downtown Culver City, Near the Old MGM Studio (Now Sony Pictures Lot), Used to do A Meal Give Away on his Show at this Restaurant. This Man was a Legend in L.A. Radio for What Nearly 50 Years? & Left a Damn Good Legacy! I Miss this Hump.
A great talent from the past..I was a DJ at WAPE in Jacksonville in the 60s...Those were the days...Wild Bill Miller.

Do you think WAPE is still a cool radio station today? I remember listening to the morning show back in the late 80s and early 90s, I'm a #JaguarGirl
He was the announcer for KABG Big 98.5 in Albuquerque it first went on the air in 1996. A legend that will definitely be missed. RIP Charlie
Thanks for posting, Art. What an inspiration this guy was. RIP, Charlie.
Thank you for this video. It is beautiful.
Interesting how large cities all had beloved radio personalities and sports Broadcasters particularly Baseball. I am not from LA so I did not know him but he was similar to NYC s beloved DJ s , Cousin Brucie, Dandy Dan Ingraham, Chuck Leonard , Bill Brown , Ron Lundy , Harry Harrison. Something about how radio connects with its audience. He had the voice for radio like the NY Guys.
What a guy ! Art, thanks for putting this wonderful piece together
Also, I love to watch these great announcers op their own board.
I listened to him on many different stations and he was a great one. Miss him. He was not afraid to speak out and be free. KRLA, KMET and KEDG were a gift to our ears and some turkey has to be stupid and change their format and take them off of the air.
Great Tribute, Art!!!!
Thank you from the Ferguson Clan
Another great video Art! Thank you for doing what your do.
Charlie Tuna was the voice of Cinema Cinema Cinema, a TV Show that was aired on GMA Network, PTV-4, RPN-9, and ABS-CBN
Great tribute, Art ! Charlie Tuna was unquestionably the best at the art of the "horny-cue" that I ever heard, and his unheralded demonstration of the Counting Crows tune at the end is proof of just how effortlessly he did it. Thanks for putting this together and posting it.
Had no idea Charlie Tuna passed!! 'The Golden Voice.'
WOW!!! Great job on this video Art!!!
Miss the wolf man too.
What a great voice
One of the Great Ones. Semper Fi
Thanks Art.
Remember him from when he was on "The Q" KCBQ in San Diego.
CHARLIE TUNA & THE REAL DON STEELE WERE MY FAVORITE. I WOULDN'T HAVE LISTENED TO THE MUSIC W/OUT THEM JOCKYING THE RECORDS.
Charlie Tuna had a cameo in the movie Rollercoaster from the 1970's
Yes we listned to him on AFRTS radio-and in more recent times I beame friends with him on FB until his death--Had some good chats with him
Simply the best.
Charlie is still the voice of KYNO 1380 Fresno!
"...they wouldn't let me be me anymore..."
KGFW..... Kearney, Nebraska.
I said, 'Charlie, did that hurt?' - 'Did what hurt?' -- - When you HIT THAT POST!

and that's the way it's done... or "was" done.
I'm want you all to know that Charlie tuna accepted me as his Facebook friend , But But then I was blocked be cause he told me . I was being to friendly to him ... I was really surprised what he did to me ...All though he did sent me a photo of him And Lisa Marie and told me about Elvis Was Waiting for him at the KHJ Studios around the back of the radio station ..I guess he was telling me plain and simple that he had no time for me . which is very sad Because I liked him on Khj And was so happy and surprised to hear from him ....
Next to Chuck Leonard; clearly One of the best that did it and got away with it!
You can see Matthew Broderick in Charlie Tuna. Could be his dad, interesting.
Yea, i remember Charlie, also on AFRTS, and a small correction , it was K L E O, in Wichita, on 1480.
" 93 K H J..." I was 9 or 10
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🙌🙌🇧🇷🇧🇷👊
