Charlie Puth on redirecting his career
The musical prodigy's fame rose with his spectacularly successful 2015 collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa, "See You Again." But in early 2020, Charlie Puth put on the brakes. He talks with "CBS Mornings" co-host Tony Dokoupil about falling in love with music; how a chance encounter with Elton John led to a reappraisal of his career; and about the 31-year-old's third album, "Charlie," which he says feels like his first.

He seems like such a free spirit with so much confidence to sit at an media interview with no shoes lol
Voicenotes was a STELLAR album. His latest one...some hits and misses. Not as strong. But 100% respect him for scrapping an album and starting fresh when he wasn't feeling it. As an artist, that's what you sometimes need to do.

I loved Voicenotes and still do, but I think part of the reason I enjoy Charlie (the new album) so much is because I know there is so much soul and authenticity to it, and it really is now HIS album.
Gotta love Elton! He says it like it is and he cares for the young performers.

@@zoid3515 see last album was not supposed to be something to go on chart, as said by him (if i remember correctly). It was his personal album, he had alot of songs to put in it and he teased them, He chose to add the ones loved the most by his tiktok audience. I think i should've written artist. imo it was really good album and deserved to be on the chart simply because it was just a story put in melodies and the songs were really good, anyone who loves his genre would like it and alot of his fans did. I guess the people who hated were the ones who were expecting it to be like his (before) 2019 songs.

His music knowledge may be unchallengeable(according to you, where the word genius is used far too often) but he isn't doing anything interesting with it. They are just bog-standard pop tunes that sound like everything else. in the history of pop music, there have been people with less knowledge but far more original
He’s special, a talent like this only comes so often and he seems to be grounded in some way. Lord give him strength to skip the pitfalls of success

I can’t unsee how Charlie bends his toes at 3:53 😂
His second album was really good, he wrote the songs and he already told us he was "starting over" when he released it so I don't really understand this... The third album sounds more poppy than the second one, the lyrics aren't as well written in my opinion but the tunes are definitely catchy, it sounds like a continuum of the second one though. He also said that "Boy" on his second album is one of the best songs he has ever written... which I agree 100% I just think the dude started super young and he s evolving, no need to make your past work seem bad... Side note, Elton is an amazing songwriter but he doesn't write the lyrics to his songs as he knows it's not his "forte", I think there's no harm in having a little help here and there, the important thing is that the song is the best it can be

AmaSING unmatched talent
It’s true. I disliked his first album, thinking it’s definitely marketable but lacked real soul of his. His music now is amazing and unique
But what is wrong with the music industry is that it is all about profit, a true artist I believe does not really care about the numbers or the sales, but at the same time, how can you build a platform if you do not sell out too 💁🏻♂️
The interviewer didn't take his shoes off while Charlie is barefoot in his out.
I saw him in concert a few years ago, and was blown away by him. His voice is unmatched, and his songwriting is amazing
In this video Charlie Puth is said to be 31yo. Wow, he looks like he's about 22yo. Charlie Puth is boyish looking.
I think Charlie is a talented artist, performer, musician, and good person.. but literally of his music is just something that was never my style or my taste. Maybe he can start fresh in a new direction that seems more genuine to him

The good thing is that he had the financial means to take a break for a few years and find his truth again. Most people don't have that luxury. Most people don't even have the time to think, they just run from one job to the next trying to make ends meet.
