Charleston - Blow holes, caves, cliffs, family Adventures.
Hey team, this week we camp up with Shane and Sarah in Charleston on their property. We have a mixed bag of weather, but they show us some cool places we totally would have missed without the local tour guides pointing us in the right direction.
we loved discovering blow holes big cliffs, caves and exploring Punakaiki.

We really enjoyed meeting you all & enabling you to have a Charleston base from which to explore. Over the 5 days here you impressively fitted so much in! Your vital Rn'R (rest & recovery) Mike, many focused school work sessions, Soph's work plus lots & lots of walks too! Such an adventurous, organised & happy family! Jade, Riley & Toby are so awesome (you knew that), a real credit to your parenting Soph & Mike & they are having such a terrific travelling life. We liked how you were all fascinated with the 1860s tunnels in the area, including the one at our place, which were mostly for relocating water for all of the Gold mining stampers. Well done venturing into three of them! We've both been very well entertained by all of your quality videos for a long time, Leopard family, & we continue to look forward to every upcoming installment. You inspire our own travels. Go Leopards! Ngā mihi nui. Shane & Sarah.

Thanks Sarah, we try and keep it real on the KZread, so there's no surprises when people actually meet us lol...... We have some pretty awesome helpful kids, who do love to explore along with their parents. It's been awesome meeting more and more people as our channel grows and people are interested in what we are doing. Thanks so much for sharing your town, your space, power and water with us so we could adventure around an area we would have otherwise missed. Charleston is a great town and we are all glad we didn't miss it. Thanks.

Yea it's amazing isn't it, everyone corner has something magical... it's just finding a spot to park sometimes lol...
What a fantastic area, glad you took the time to explore and had the local knowledge. I haven't spent a lot of time in the Charleston area but those visits I have had and areas I've explored are amazing and it sure has a lot to offer. THere's plenty of caves, caverns, tunnels and mines to push your limits Mike. I can show you a few in Marlborough as well....... That new bike trail should be brilliant for the region. Love the wee blowhole pumping away in the waves, those hidden away places can be pretty awesome. It wouldn't be the West Coast without a few days of wild weather and the challenges of rain showers blowing through. Those stunning sunny days in between though are so nice.

Thanks so much. Story is very important aye, and just being real. I like real life videos rather than an advertisement. It's nice exploring on our own agenda, we sure live in paradise and there is so many amazing places to explore.
Glad it'll be safer when I visit, now all the holes are filled in - thanks Toby! That cracked me up :-D I've now stopped writing down all the places you've gone to that I need to visit because, basically, it's all of them! Thanks as always for showing us all of the places we need to visit; I'm desperate to go on another adventure but have to wait for my new car to be delivered. In the mean time I'll just travel vicariously through you guys!

Yea we had so much sun while I've been working, but it's looking like we have a lot of rain in store, which we aren't looking forward to. Hopefully we'll get some Breaks in the rain so we can get out of the caravan and explore.
Love your Vids thanks!

Both tocal and atypical West Coast weather there. I've been impressed with how many fine days you've been getting. I've also been amazed by the nikau pains you've been seeing. I always thought they just grew under bush canopy. Great work from the Toby Cam.

Yea the weather has been pretty good, although the last week has been what I would have expected on the West Coast, although it's spring... This week is looking pretty bad for adventures as well... Those Nikau are amazing aye, so many, they actually can grow bananas down here even, it's mostly frost free, and when the sun comes out, it's roasting. Hope your doing well.

@@leopardsgowild the high humidity and rainfall would be helpful with growing. I'm still working. Though the season is winding down. If I'm lucky I'll have work through October. We're transitioning from nightshift to dayshift.

Beautiful West Coast! I have seen the Putai blowhole blow to the top. It is spectacular, when it does that. We live in Greymouth. The coast road is a stunning drive on a good day. I am following you on your adventure. Love it. Showing the best of Nz!

Check out Mitchell's Gully Gold Mine while you're there 👍 The West Coast has so much mining history and each mine and historical site is unique - unlike anything you have ever seen 🤩

Great video Mike and the fam.. shame the lovely couple at Charleston don’t open up as a POP that would be great to explore the area from there, looks like the family had so much fun even though you don’t like caves, I’m the same with swingbridges somehow we just need to get over the fear 👍 So looking forward to the Kawateri trail being finished, the sections we did were awesome and I’m sure the new sections will be even better.. fingers crossed the great weather continues for you all with only short interludes of “normal” West Coast weather

Hey mate awesome spot for a pop alright, I think they don't want to take business away from the only camp ground which is very close, which is thoughful. Yea I think we need to bring some sunshine into the west coast forecast it's like Bad...
@NZCaravanLife

Not sure they’d take business away from the campsite more like encourage NZMCA members to stop and explore this area, those members don’t use commercial camps anyway… fingers crossed for you with the weather 🤞
Love your footage Mike, we are sitting here left wanting to get over there. That Charlston area is so beautiful! The Kawatiri Coastal Trail is awesome aye Soph, cannot wait to do it again when its all complete

Loved the Kawatiri Trail. Just did 64km on the Wilderness Trail yesterday with mixed feelings... mostly weather related lol! Definitely some beautiful sections. If the reservoirs were still the reflections would have been stunning, but I had squally wind & rain so there's not a lot of pics to share unfortunately 😔 oh well, I was due some terrible weather on a ride one day right?! 😎
Always amazing what one can find just getting off the trail just a little bit. Very cool find! Really appreciate seeing you spending such great quality time with your family! Wonderful stuff! Bruce and Otis

Yes getting out and exploring often can lead to the most amazing places. So glad we took the offer to stay, and opportunity to explore an area we would have otherwise just driven past.
Plenty to do and see around Charleston. One of my brother in laws and his partner owned the Charleston Motels up to about three years ago.

Oh man that would have been awesome alright. Pretty expensive to do for a family, I wonder how cold the water would be at that time of the year as well... I feel like me and caves and getting further and further a part as well... Love it when the glow worms are out though.
If you're ever in England we have a drive way you can stop on 😂. Went you said Pancake rocks I was expecting large flat rocks, not stacks of pancakes haha.
