Back in Otago 4 Sun and wind - Caravan service after 1 year full time - Trail running

Hey everyone, been a bit of a full on couple of weeks, our first trip back to the North island to go to my Grandads funeral sadly, although we did enjoy taking time to see family and friends while up North.
We get to experience some strong North Wester winds in Cromwell at a very large NZMCA park which only allows 10 campers.
We've lived in the caravan now for a year so time for a service to make sure we're towing along safely.
After these jobs, I take the kids for a run up into the flat hills conservation park just out of Alexander, which has some good options which allow you to extend your distance if you want. Some stunning views up there.
We finish our video off with our Jockey wheel spitting out one of it's cogs leaving us unable to hook up to the truck...
if you want to contact Luke from adventure caravans, here's his website... peakrv.co.nz/

    Sorry for your loss. You are right about travel being expensive between islands. Our Apr23 return trip with small caravan cost $750, Apr24 was going to cost $950 (both companies). Reduced to $750 thanks to NZMCA discount.

    Yes it's pricey totatlly worth it for a lenghty trip, we were not planning a northbound trip due to the price and having no income, but this was def something we'd stretch our $$$ for... Love the South island though, def worth paying for the ferry for the different experiences.

Conventional life not really suiting us, taking some time to get used to it 😢 we are looking at going over to the lower North Island for a bit of a look around the south east coast up towards Hawkes Bay, although doubt we’ll make it up as far as there that trip in Dec and Jan, hopefully have 5 weeks off LWOP 🤞

    Insideout are no longer unfortunatly, also they will only cover warranty for 1 year, so we just finished 2 years... it seems the brakes were working on the magnet and not the drum, but they were investigated back in feb and since then they seem to be working well, the wear from this video looks similar to what it did in Feb.

    Interesting how poorly balanced or set up the brakes were from new. At least you know everything is working and the bearings etc are serviced for the next year on the road. Those hot spring days are great except for the wind. It's been a weird cold patch this last week, which I'm blaming on me setting up the swimming pool for summer. Hope you get the jockey wheel replaced ok

    Hey Garth, yes it was a pretty chilly week just gone, beautiful day today though... Glad i was working for a mate doing some renovations, but got it finished in time to enjoy the sun now... The brakes were def out pretty badly, infact, they weren't even engaging when we picked the van up, I saw the wear n tear on those magnets in feb and it looks the same, so glad it hasn't gotten worse.

    I'll be ensuring that our service in January includes them, we've been having issues with the redarc braking system saying there's a voltage drop? After watching your videos on the brakes it made us very wary to whether it's set up correctly. But it's intermittent... When it's raining or damp. We've found somewhere near our daughters to stay till February so we can enjoy family time and explore Taranaki. Then head to the service after New year's holidays are over.

  • @leopardsgowild

    @leopardsgowild

    7 ай бұрын

    Just ensure they check the and adjust the brakes themselves, not just look for wear, you want an even balance of braking, so they should jack the caravan up and do up / tighten each wheel to it's skimming the pad, couple of wind backs and they will be adjusted to an even balance.... Sometimes the brake systems haven't even been installed properly, we didn't have proper brakes working until we nearly had an accident, and found out that our caravan and vehicle had never been collabrated which was a requirement of the braking system on a level site, it never happened but we didn't know that as it came pre installed... Your caravan brakes should be able to brake your truck at 50% once ours were adjusted correctly and collabrated we were towing at 30% brakes @@kat_n_Rob_Touring_NZ

    Thanks mate, warranty is a complicated issue, insideoutRV state no warranty if you live in your caravan which I don't think is legal, but they do have a 3 year structural warraand 5 years on the chassis they did send us a replacement jockey wheel which we expected to pay for but they never invoiced us which is nice.
