I'm glad showrunners made him prominent even in the first season. He is an interesting character, and since the show doesn't focus entirely on Lyra, it was logical that we could see his background as well.

They made Boreal very interesting in the show, I agree. He was a cruel and ruthless character in the books, but I'm glad they added to his story in the series.

Such an interesting character. Was genuinely sad at his death. Could have had so much more fun with him on the show but alas

Ariyon Bakare did an amazing job at fleshing out what could have been a very flat, two-dimensional character. His obsession with Mrs Coulter stays just on the right side of creepy (I know that sounds weird but I can’t think how else to phrase it!) whilst underlining how little he actually knows her.

Carlo Boreals presence in the first season also allowed him much better direct comparison to his rival Asriel. I think it's quite clever, as seasons 1 and 2 highlight what he is, and what he isn't. A mostly highly competent and ruthless individual, capable of twisting the hands of people with power to get what he wants. Ambitious, calculating, and possessing unique knowledge. Contrast that with season 2, and highlighted by Marisa before her confrontation with Lyra. Ultimately he's an opportunist. He merely found a window, and used it to become wealthy and influential, whereas Asriel *made* a window of his own. And while Carlo gets others to find the knife he hadn't the strength to get himself (something I couldn't imagine Asriel or Marisa doing) Asriel was creating technology to allow him to bend his own mind into travelling between worlds. He lacks the creativity and level of risk taking either of them have, and can't see that he's a bit player in a war between Asriel and the highest power. I get the impression Marisa Coulter was somewhat interested by him, up until his limitations in scope became clear to her. And that failing is part of why I find Carlo Boreal such an interesting character; initially very mysterious. Dangerous, suave and a cut above most of the other Magisterium members, but still sharing there weakness's in mindset, and lacking the qualities that made Asriel and Marisa so exceptional. While I was sad by his unceremonious death, I think it was the most fitting way for his character arc to have ended.

I’m not sure if you have done a video in this already, but I was wondering for the hunger games, what was meant to happen in catching fire/ what would have happened if katniss didn’t destroy the arena? Would more people have died and there only been one winner, or all the survivors still survived? - I’m also sorry if this is explained in the book, I haven’t got time to read it yet!
