Legendary Siam Road char kuey teow. True old school cooking. Skills, timing and fire all controlled to perfection. Uncle had been trading his skills for more than 50 years. That's half a century! Appreciate while you can. Really missed Penang.

I think he's amazing! Cooking with charcoal proves his experience in cooking char kway teow. Because that way, he can control the heat better. I bet it's delicious, it's amazing to see someone at his age who can still cook and move around in such speed.

i have seen this video before maybe 7 month before this. but i still search this video today, just to see this uncle cooks.. it is hard to see this kind of cooking with charcoal, left hand with the fan, and right hand cooking and sometimes adds the charcoal. what a sight to behold. not like those malay (i am also malay, haha) char kuey teow, tends to be soaking wet. when i asked my char kuey teow to be dry, sometimes they will stare/look at me differently like they are telling me that their way of char kuew teow is how it must be. come on, this dish is chinese and if you want to copy, please copy like how the chinese made it. hope this uncle still cooking with this way. and how pleasing to sit and see he cooks while smelling the charcoal aroma..

I left Singapore in 1967, this is typical hawker food. Tricycle mobile stalls, charcoal and wood fired stoves, the feel of moving cars whizzing behind your backs while eating, satay man counting the sticks after eating, crockery and cutlery 'washed' in metal rusty buckets, we survived! Please let the old uncles carry on the tradition, too late for Singapore.
