I absolutely love this fragrance. It is sophistication and refinement in a bottle! When I think of the people that I know who wear it, the same two adjectives come to mind. There are those who associate the original Chanel No. 5 with an "old lady" or "grandma" fragrance. To them, I say, "Grandma sure smelled wonderful!" I know mine did!

Great review! The EDP is by far my most favorite out of all the other concentrations (haven't tried the pure parfum yet). It's no doubt that reformulations have occurred. I've read that the vintages are much more stronger and last longer, which you can find good ones on ebay that are still in good shape.

Your review was great. You have a pleasant voice. I find that the EDT version is closer to the original smell from but the EDP last longer and is just fantastic. Strangely enough the first time I tried the Chanel no 5 EDP I returned it as it smelled burned. I then went to the Chanel counter in Macy's where the EDP sample bottle smelled terrific. Buy this at the Chanel counter if you can.

Chanel is classy, beautiful packaging they sent you. I love Chanel N5, it is pure class, I rotate a lot of perfumes from my collection, but this one I always go back to if I just want to feel comfortable and elegant.

Finally! I found someone who likes to buy the smaller version of a fragrance like me. Thanks for the review. I always hear "wonders" about Chanel No5 but never thought to smell it nor wearing it. It is my ignorance to not discover such a classic perfume! I tried Chance though. It is one of those sweet fragrance that you buy once and you are unlikely to buy it again. Thanks for your review. Keep up the good work :) *P.S: you have a unique tone. I think you could be a great deal if you are working for a radio station or a narrator!

I love this scent. My bottle came from Japan and was purchased as a gift for me in 2014. I never used it and kept it in a cool dark place. I just didn't feel like it was a "ME" yet. I finally opened the bottle last year at the age of 46 and I love it. The fragrance lasted, didn't go rancid, etc. It lasts on my skin and clothing. It always smells fantastic. It doesn't hurt my nose like some fragrances do. You have to let the fragrance breath and be absorbed into your skin and mix with your skin oils to really get an idea if this is the fragrance for you. I feel fantastic everytime I use it.

I love no 5 , achingly beautiful... yummy stuff, get a bottle from b4 2012 as after that and especially after 2014 all fragrances got weaker due to new regulations. My 1989s edp has great longevity but it’s still classy not a huge loud bomb just perfect and classy. My newer bottles from 2008 / 2012 are a still very good.. it’s after 2015 they got weaker in how long they last. It’s a shame but every perfume house seems affected a bit. By way hubby sounds fab, he knows a beautiful fragrance and he wants you his beautiful woman to enjoy it, my husband is like that, a sweetheart... I loved how you reacted opening it , so cute.

Hi. I bought this perfume about a year ago because I collect them. However, every time I put it on... I felt a headache coming on or I got nauseous . It’s weird! Recently after watching the reviews, I started trying it on again . No more headaches and I even bought the perfumes cream which is amazing on its own. I’m in Love now. I smell so expensive too

I have the current formulation of Chanel No. 5 EDP ..although it’s not that long lasting , but it’s less powdery and definitely smell younger. I love it

Yes the formula has changed. I remember Chanel from the 60's.Last bottle I bought was in early 80's. Decided to buy it this week. I realize it's a tad bit different but still lovely. Through the sense of smell I got to take a lovely walk through time.

Hi Mrs Jackson, May I suggest that you try the other concentrations in the line. The eau de toilette is more dilute, meaning there is more alcohol in the mix, its the alcohol which allows the perfume oils to really project off of your skin, which could of been what you smelled on that paper. But perfume on paper always smells stronger and not the same on skin. also there is a pure concentration of chanel called parfum. It has a high price point for the amount you get, which might put you off, but because its pure perfume you only need a dab, so a small bottle can last a long time. I find that leu has a very good projection and smells a lot like a original but is a new formula aimed at the younger generation. But is still very much chanel 5. Also keep in mind that it might just be your skin that is "eating" the perfume. I have that problem a lot with perfume, I have several perfumes that are supposed to be incredibly strong but hardly even leaves my skin, you would have to be a real space invader to be able to smell them on me, but others just knock your socks off Yes, chanel has had to go through several reformulation. I wouldn't mind betting most of them are due to EU regulations on what perfumers can put in their formulations, it's because of these regulations that you barely ever see real essential oils in perfumes anymore, it's always synthetic these days which is why many people say perfumes have a chemical smell to them. I hope I have helped in some way.

Chanel was the very first perfume I received as a Christmas gift when I was 15 years old ! It’s my favorite perfume for life ! My high school boyfriend gave it to me way back when it was original, not reformulated 🥰

I not interested about the perfume much, but I like the way she reviewed and talked lol sounds interesting. So real.

It’s def reformulated. I bought EDT 10 years ago too, the colour of the fragrance was dark like brandy. Your EDP is now the typical perfume colour of other brands xx

I have just recently bought a bottle of this (last time I bought it was 2008) and I was disappointed because it doesn't last very long now. The fragrance was almost gone within an hour and I could just about smell the base notes. It is a lovely scent though which is very unique but they have changed it over the last 10 years or so. I first remember it from about 30 years ago when my grandma used to wear it and it was very strong back then she used to have it in the old splash on bottles which have now been discontinued. I thought it was the best thing I'd ever smelled in my life and I've loved it ever since.

Enjoyed your video! I believe the formulation has indeed changed. No. 5 is my absolute favorite fragrance, in part, because it was also my grandmother’s favorite, and so it always reminds me of her. I can remember her wearing it when I was a small child (early 1960s), and distinctly remember the fragrance being much bolder. I think that they intentionally made it more subtle, in recent years, though I definitely don’t think that that’s a bad thing.

Chanel no. 5 has a few variations. The older one is the "Parfum" (up to 30% oil concentration). The Eau the Parfum is around 20% concentration, with a few different notes. So, it's not just a "less powerful" version. It's still Chanel no. 5, but with a few different notes (e.g, it has vanilla notes, while the original doesn't).

Great review. Your nose could have started to get de-sensitised to the fragrance after wearing it a few days, which may make it seem less strong. I personally don't own any Chanel fragrances as none have jumped out at me yet. My mum wears Coco Mademoiselle though, which is similar to Miss Dior (which is one of my favourites). No. 5 is very iconic though and smells very unique and timeless.

Arpege by Lanvin is similar to N5 but softer. I do plan to purchase Chanel No5 eventually

I just bought the Gabrielle Essence EDP and with that came a 1.5ml adorable sample of No. 5 EDP- Loved the scent! (though my family didn’t!)- sniffing my wrists now and it’s so calming, powdery, rich scent. Just bit the bullet and bought the 100ml of Chanel No. 5 EDP. Can’t wait to liberally apply once it arrives! Applying it on bedsheets and pillow case and clothes also makes it so good. Gosh! 😍

The current version of Chanel N5 have no longevity at ALL! I wear the Chanel N5 Cologne spray my bottle is from 1980s and it has wonderful lasting power!!

It’s true that Chanel perfumes (and other houses) have hardly any staying powder now in bottles from after 2015. I usually go to eBay and ask for the batch code as bottles from before 2014 are much better. I go for 2012 or 2011 or back more to get some staying power. New rules in 2014 from the EU requested that perfumes not contain to much things we may be allergic to, so some of the things that made fragrance last like oak moss are only allowed in a fraction of the amount , now nothing lasts long because oak moss is a fixative yet not much allowed now.

I love Chanel! I have the Chance EDP Tendre also the #5 Leau. I was told if you put the #5 perfume in a window every now and again in and out. It will get richer and stronger. Thank you for sharing your review. I truly enjoyed it. 💕

I have so many bottles of edt and 1 edp, never used it just use to spritz a lil to see if I can get use to it- finally, so many years later... I like. It dries to a soft musky skin scent but u smell it all day. I asked my daughter to smell me and she said I smelled like I had musk on. That’s great for me because I love musk.

There’s the Parfum and the Eau De Parfum, which you have.. do you think you tried the Parfum originally? The Parfum is the “original” and the EDP was developed from that later. As I understand it..

The difference, I believe, is that the original was ONLY extrait de parfum (pure). But it's probably about 500 for that size bottle. Eau de parfum was formulated in the 80s I believe. Good stuff!

I’d recommend the “parfum” it smells so much better than the Eau de Perfum. The notes are more well rounded.

pjacksone indeed. I have a .25 oz. Given how strong it is, that size will last you a long time. I just rub the cap on my skin and it’s enough for 8 hour longevity. The scent is unaltered in the parfum version, you will get the most true to original version. I hope you enjoy it.

The edt used to be stronger many many years ago, but of course some idiots had to mess with it and now it's nothing. The Edp now is what the edt used to be. I always say "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". Such a beautiful classic destroyed in the last 10/15 yrs.

Yes, it is worth the hype because of the aldehydes that it contains. It's an aldehyde explosion and that is what sets it apart from other fragrances that are too sweet, gourmand and syrupy. This stuff is intoxicating. It's the smell of the 1920's. The Great Gatsby in a bottle.

Tamim Azad I buy my Chanel either directly from the Chanel website or from Ulta. I purchased 2 Chanel fragrances in store at Ulta a couple of years ago. Lately I have just been going directly through the Chanel website.

It has to have changed due to IFRA and EU regulations. Chanel take their reformulations very seriously, even so... Not to mention that the EdP concentration for fragrance did not exist in the 1920s. Originally, Chanel 5 was available only in pure parfum, also known as extrait de parfum. Later, EdC (now discontinued), EdT and EdP were added, EdP being the latest addition.
