I am glad you mentioned the “engineering” issue with the old retractable eye brushes. I am happy to report that the new synthetic (all black bristles) dual ended eye brushes do not have that problem. Metal casing are longer than the bristles and do not catch any when closing cap.

Cathy! I reached out to Chanel about 2 weeks ago to get a measurement on the length of the 200 dual brush with both caps on. I need to see if it'll fit in my travel makeup pouch. They haven't gotten back to me. Could you measure it for me? Greatly appreciated!

I must have that sublimate brush as I have the foundation. I must look for it. I don’t like the water fresh tint brush either & have adopted your way to apply it first to the back of my hand, break the bubbles & apply to my face. It works so much better & no longer looks like it’s sitting on top of my skin. Thank you Alison 💕

Hi Allison. Thank you for your review. I have the fluid/powder full size brush and use to buff out my foundation after applying with the flat foundation brush you just purchased. I love the dual ended eye brushes and use almost daily. I started using them more after watching you work with them and the beautiful looks you created. The dual ended concealer brush works great to apply cream eye shadows. I just recently jumped on the Sonja G train. Most of her brushes are made with dyed and un-dyed goat hair. They are the most amazing brushes ever!! XO

Hi Allison, I’m so thankful for this video. I have the fluid foundation full size brush, and initially I was so infatuated with it. I liked how it gave an airbrushed look. I don’t have the water fresh Teint, I used it for regular foundation. But over the time I found my makeup is natural looking. Only when I washed the brush I understood why it looked the way it looked. This brush picks up so much foundation and holds it too. So there is very little that goes on the face. I now use a drug store brush and I’m so happy with it. Thank you for your video!

Loved this video! I’ve often wondered why no one talks about these brushes. BTW, I have the Sublimage foundation and brush, and the BK Beauty 101 face brush is a wonderful full-size alternative. Love the natural hair dual ended blender/shader brush. Several months ago, I noticed Chanel now includes synthetic brushes in their blushes instead of the older natural brushes. I am sad about that!

Allison if I could make a suggestion - for the Chanel dual ended concealer brush, since it doesn't work for you for the stated purpose, try using it to apply cream eyeshadow (like the Tom Ford cream pots for instance) with the flat end and blend with the fluffy side (I assume the concealer brush is synthetic, I only use synthetic brushes for cream eye products). At least then you will get some better use out of the brush and might find it works better. Love your videos. :) (ETA - for the miniature foundation brush, since I don't really wear foundation, I find a good use for dense foundation brushes is to buff cleansing powders into skin (like the Tatcha enzyme powder for instance), especially if your skin is too sensitive for something like a Clarisonic (like mine is) - just a thought if you want to repurpose the brush for something else.)

Psst.... the natural hair double ended eyeshadow brushes are still on sale at Macys and I saw one on Nordstrom too! Looks like they are trying to get rid of them and bring in the synthetic version. MAC also did this a few years back. If I understand correctly, many companies are switching to synthetic because it's more affordable to manufature and cruelty free. The reality is natural hair is way better with powder application vs synthetic. Synthetic does give you the option to use the brushes with cream products though so one pro there I guess. :) Great video, you are fabulous! xx

I was just looking at buying some new Chanel brushes. I have 2 older eye brushes with the silver farrels and love them but I'm tempted to buy the retractible one because I've been quarantined too long. lol. Thanks for talking me out of the foundation brush that comes with the water tint. I've been eying it thinking I'd like it better than using my fingers, which I prefer to using a beauty blender. I bought a powder brush but it hasn't arrived yet.

Hi Ally, so glad I waited to purchase the new brushes. I was going to order the new concealer brush but I'll stick to my beauty blender. Never noticed the change to the bristles so thanks for pointing that out. I'm sticking with the older version which I've had for years. I can't live without the definer/smudger brush. Totally agree that Chanel needs to do do something about that sheath. So many times I've opened that brush and it's all misshapen. I sort of feel Chanel is cheapening things with these new brushes. I own the Chanel full size flat top foundation brush and I love it for applying my Tom Ford traceless stick more than the Tom Ford brush that they sell for this! Otherwise I have sometimes found that my Chanel brushes have trouble picking up product. I'm talking mostly about their face brushes.

Hey! I love Chanel's Beauty, that being said, the only two brushes that i own from them are the eyeshadow dual ended brushes. I think both are great investment pieces. I was so satisfied with them that i wanted to try one of their foundation brushes, but then i came across Real Techniques and never looked back! Real Techniques brushes are cheap, yet incredibly well made and soft. I still use my Chanel's dual ended brushes every time i do my makeup (and i still love them), but i think Real Techniques are a great and very affordable choice.

I have the Real Techniques retractable foundation brush and retractable blush brush for travel and they are great. They are customisable for sheer, mid or full coverage as you can alter the brush length. I want the retractable Chanel eye brushes for travel... whenever that will next be. 🥺. I wish Chanel had done a retractable complexion and blush brush in this range too.

Allison thank you for this review!!! There isn't many current reviews on chanel brushes . I have a few of their face brushes and love them. Now the brush that comes with the water fresh tint isn't my favorite. The bristles are too stiff and the handle is too short/stubby for a nice application. I can say the full size 2 in 1 fluid/powder brush is way better it's truly night and day. I also have a older travel size of the 2 in 1 brush thats a little bigger than the water fresh tint brush with a different handle that's really good too.

I have all the brushes you showed us and some more. I have the new Blush Brush which I also use for bronzing and I have the retractable kabuki brush which I use with Le Tan Soleil. It is so soft and yet so dense it does the job perfectly well. I also have the foundation brush (the long one) same as the miniature of the one you have and to tell you the truth this is the one I use everyday with my liquid foundations from Chanel. The new Powder Brush is nice but I think I prefer the old angled one which I also have. I was very fortunate to be given the Sublimage brush by one of Chanel's Sales Assistants but I haven't tried it yet. I will do now that you mention it is so great. I also have the shadow brushes you have which I love, thankfully I have the older version like yours. I don't understand why so many times they produce new ones when the older versions are so great. I hope the new Soleil de Tan is as good as the old one I have. I just ordered the new one but reviews are conflicting. Thank you for this great video of my beloved Chanel brushes xx

Great review! I love the shadow brushes also and definitely don’t care for the concealer brush. I purchase the new Angle Liner brush (waiting to receive it) and I also purchase the new Rounded eyeshadow brush and I love it.. I think I will be purchase the new foundation brush🤗 Thanks to you🥰🥰

I am with you on the dual brushes. I use mine every day for my eyes. Also with you on the dual concealer brush. I don't get the flat side. But i do use the blender to blend the concealer. But, I disagree on the Water-fresh tint. I love it! What brush do you use for it?

Hi Graziela! I think the flat side of the concealer brush may just be to place product and the other side is for blending?My brush from the Water Fresh Tint collects dust on my vanity 😂 😂 😂

Do they make a good blush brush? Also, since you know already that I’m loving the brand history videos, another one would be Elizabeth Arden. Very popular for many many years. My mom swore by their products. I’d love to hear the history. Thanks for the great video on brushes. Some are on my wish list. 😘

I did not like the brush that came with the Water Fresh Tint either. It caused streaks on my face and was a lot of work to blend the product. I use a less dense brush to blend the Water Fresh Tint and it works much better. Overall, I really like my Chanel brushes. Thanks for the review!!

Hi, It’s me again 😀 I have retractable kabuki brush. Same issue, the bristles are so fine, they pick up so much product and holds them. I was told this brush is for les beiges powder - which I don’t use 🤨 I just buy Chanel brushes when I have points/notes to use. I’m really not impressed with blush brush either. That’s just me! I think you are so right! I thought buying foundation brush should be easy but not, I bought chanel retractable foundation brush first, love the brush but it is too short, then I bought 2 in 1 foundation brush the one you disliked, same here, hated it for really hurt my face! The brush is too hard!

I had the original retractable eye brushes and the caps would not stay on so I do know they tweaked the caps so they would stay but why they didn’t make sure to also cover the brushes before replacing the cap is a mystery to me. I plan to pull mine out after this video. I hadn’t used them in a while. Thanks for the video- great content.

Allison Chase I was so frustrated. I returned them to Nordstrom which they were very good about. Both Nordstrom and I contacted Chanel and soon after I received the brushes with proper fitting caps. They made it correctly with the eyebrow pencil! I have worn Chanel for over 40 years. It has always been my go to because it suits my personal preference. Sometimes they are unwise in their offerings I feel. I am not purchasing makeup at this time. I actually was on my way into Macys to pick up a few items and the store had just closed! Saved😊lol. I really don’t need any new makeup and will focus on using some of what I have. What I’ve been doing is “duping” the look or style or vibe, if you will by using my existing collection to create the looks of the new collections. So far... so good! Keep up the good work!

Great brush overview, Allison! The trend seems to be synthetic over natural hair these days, probably for "compassionate reasons" (although that's just marketing!). However, I think they have some nerve charging as much for synthetics! 😵

I totally agree on the brush you get with the water fresh tinte! OMG! It is a horrible brush. I keep trying to find other uses like gel bronzer and blush but its not good. I am giving it to my little grand -daughters to play with. 😂

I don’t get how the downloads work. I always wanted higher end. I just got 3 Sona G brushes. Wow. Just wow. They flow on my skin. No scratch. I do r use foundation brush only at first. I always have to dab and press. Mature skin. Yup. It needs to hug my skin. You’ll see. Ha ha I do love them tho and your collection is nice as well

I wish Chanel would listen to their customer base because I have branched out to more upscale luxury brands including Sisley and Cle De Peaux! One reason is the cheap crappy packaging of Chanel for example the contouring powder and the eye shadow is so cheap that just dropping them a couple of feet made the eye shadow metal circles just come off as in they popped out! and the contouring powder broke all over my lap (driving) and has a huge hole in it. Not to mention the complete plastic compact broke the lid off on another blush once!

Ugh that is so annoying! I agree that those two brands you mentioned are easier to reach and contact.

I don'r like the brush with the foundation either. It gets "soppy" with the foundation and it is like running a wet noodle across the face and does nothing.
