Now also, as former smoker, this is such a bright contrast and perfect foil to the cigarettes, both the smoke and the reek of the stale rooms where we would smoke. Yes, I am craving a cigarette now...though it's been 20 years. Not to say it smells of cigarettes...but is a direct contrast to it. How freshening. I fell for this perfume in this iteration when I was in my early 20's and a smoker, so maybe that was part of it. You may laugh, but I found a cache of Chanel samples in my grandmother's bathroom drawer and I wore them in my teens/early 20s, surely not appropriate for a baby lol. Have had a taste for real perfume since. And yes, the cultural context for Cristalle is missing now, but it could still have a place if we re-contextualize. I am hoping it comes back to us. Please yes on the livestream.

Cristalle edp was also worn by SelenaQ, it’s in her museum adorned by her pearls in a case called “dolls”, I honestly love the edt better but I feel current formulation is weak as I have to reapply throughout the day which I don’t mind, I often layer with No.19 or Paris Edimbourg Les Eaux . I also feel like Cristalle was Coco’s last fragrance that she got to smell. Definitely a masterpiece to say the least !

What a truly precious gem you’ve found, Dacob. Cristalle defies categorisation. I don’t personally own it myself but I agree that this is a masterpiece. I’ve just finished my full bottle of Cristalle Eau Verte two weeks ago and I miss it already.

I personally also prefer the edt of Cristalle and No19 but I do love all their iterations and would not want any of them to get discontinued.

Thank you Dacob for a wonderful review on Cristalle EDP! I CANNOT live without this fragrance. I love the original EDT as well. Both are masterpieces (with Eau verte too) and I hope they will not be discontinued. I do feel that the current EDT has lost the « metallic » note it used to have in the vintage / original 70’s version or am I simply imagining this?!

Thank you Devesa 🙏🏻💖 I agree, the current edt is smoother. The heavier metallic note is gone and I do like the current edt formulation a lot. There is a creaminess to it now that the og lacked.

Very interesting this video and the historical context of this perfume, the time when it was created and at the same time I understand better now the N19 that I wanted to like but i remember saying to my husband it’s funny there is like a smell of ashtray and i returned it…but now I understand! Thank you Dacob always so relevant!! 🥰❤️🙌🏻

I am always very fascinated about the historical context of the perfumes and the times they were conceived in as well as by whom and for whom they were conceived by and for. Puts the smells in perspective and allows us a way into these fragrances better. 💖🌅

Thank you for this fantastic video! And the newest one on Cristalle, I just snatched EDT with a great discount. I live in Switzerland and I noticed many times that perfumes often reach the market with a delay but also they is gone not that fast after being discontinued 😬

Yes, I have an 8 batch cristalle edt as well. They did produce a small quantity this year too but did not distribute much of it outside of Europe apparently. 💖

love ur video--thank you for sharing this with us. I just landed a sealed Poison edt (30 Ave Hoche) and it is a 1986 batch. I haven't sprayed it yet even though it has been 3 days! I'm scared Haha. Do you think there is a chance it could smell exactly the way it did back then, even after 37 years? Or should I expect it to be a little flat?

I just received cristalle edt today. It’s the 2018 formula. My first time ever smelling it (impulse buy when you mentioned the possibility of it being discontinued). There’s almost a cigarette smell to it. Now watching your video, I get it. I first thought Is my nose playing tricks on me? Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to own this but I’m not sure how to feel haha the dry down is very clean though. Definitely has a vintage flare to it.

The hyacinth gives it that dry accord together with vetiver and oakmoss. This is a chypre fragrance from the seventies so it is in a special category which is endangered right now since brands churn out more easy and sweet fragrances today. Simple concoctions to quickly please the short attention span masses. In a market like this many classic chypre fragrances have very little chance of survival.

Hi Dacob! I mentioned in one of your lives I purchased the Cristalle EDT with the batch code 8501-does this mean my EDT is already 8 years old or did they make it sometime during this 8 year time span?

This means its either brand new form now eight years old or sixteen years old. Depends on the shape of the bottle and where the eau de toilette stamp was placed on the bottle and so on. 😉💖

My Cristalle edp has batchcode 5301, and I bought it -without any box- off a Dutch perfumejournalist, I have no idea if it’s batch is from 1994, 2003, 2011 or 2019 but it is really very very good! 🥰🌸 Do you know of any other -apart from the cap, mine has silver linings- clues on the bottle itself as to which batch it might be?

Thank you 💖🙏🏻🥰 In the nineties the bottle was the shape as the bottle I unbox in this video. Also look if the eau de parfum stamp is above or underneath the CRISTALLE name stamp on the bottle. If the eau de parfum stamp is above then you probably have a batch from the nineties and leading into the early 00’s. If the eau de parfum stamp is underneath and you have a black cap with silver lining then chances are you have a late 00’s to 2021 bottle aprox. and if you have the black cap with no silver linings then you probably have a bottle from early 2022 and onward till at least 2023.

Sorry that comment didn't come out right. I doubt Poison could ever be flat, but what I am really afraid of is that it will fill the entire home with a "not stored well" Poison. (from my memory of Poison from even the 90's version, it does fill up the entire space) That is one of the other reasons I am scared to spray it. I know you have a lot of experience with the original batches and I watched Your big Poison video as well.

I just bought a while ago a 1985/6 batch of poison edt spray. Its divine. Not flat at all. Its ambrosial, deep, plummy, powdery and above all: indolic tuberose-y. Enjoy it 😉💚

Hi Heidi. The Les Eaux collection from Chanel is a light fragrance collection which was allegedly first supposed to be launched as an eau de cologne set but then last minute changes were made and the fragrances were labelled as eau de toilettes allegedly. They are not meant to last very long as they are conceived as fresh water perfumes (les eaux is water un french) and are light from the get go. Having said that, Paris Venise is one of the more lasting les eauxs in my opinion so they might have watered it down in recent batches or you might be slightly anosmic to it too.
