I mean just to say Rudy having the same teacher from two years ago is actually common in small towns. I had the same teacher for first and second grade. If you have a degree in elementary teaching you can move in between grades.

I was the same way throughout my entire school year. Heck, my middle/high school teachers taught multiple grade levels, maybe not the same subject, but there's a good 99% chance you'll have the same teacher again the following year.

I think that's what happened to me in preschool. I spent the first half of the year in one class, and the other half in another. I don't remember doing anything bad in preschool, though, so it couldn't have been a behavioral thing.

Where I am even in bigger cities teachers generally teach all grades, just the same subject. My elementary school was on another level though, it was a village school that only had 5 teachers total, one of them also was the principal. It had 4 grades and a total of 54 students. My class was 9 people. Edit: also the principal teacher was a hobby board game designer and tinkerer, and he turned a bunch of his learning material into hand-crafted games. I remember one where you used light bulbs as figures on a bread board as a game board and it taught us about circuits. It was fucking rad.

This is from a reviewer somewhere but this describes chalkzones greatest strength and weakness. "Chalkzone operates on a childs logic and their imagination Limited, unrefined, and infinite a contradiction yes but much like a childs view of the world. For a child the nonsense makes sense for an adult the nonsense is just that nonsense. Stupid and easy resolutions to issues come from experience of how to handle hypotheticals, something a child would lack however they will eventually learn a way to handle it it wont be the best or most efficient way. The chalk isn't an all fix if the one using it doesn't know the solution them selves."

It feels like a show that's meant to empower and give hope to children more than anything else. Although making the success of Rudy conflict based in such a way detracts from real world implications and that's why Arthur is just better in general, albeit not necessarily at boosting morale.

I kind of have a theory that, should a character be drawn by the same person, over and over, the older and newer version would fuse and give the knowledge of what the old version had. That's why Snap had such a good knowledge of Chalkzone. Cuz his older selves had them. It's a solid theory, at least.

Genuine question here, Enter: Did you only watch season 1 of this show? All the clips in this review are from season 1 episodes, and you fail to mention how Craniac 4 and Skrawl (who you even show clips of) are significant reoccurring characters. They each only have a single appearance in season 1, since it's the shortest (only 6 episodes). It seems like you only watched season 1, weren't too swayed by it and didn't continue. In that case, unfortunately I have to say this review is an extremely bad representation of the show overall, since season 1 is by far the weakest. The show takes far more advantage of its premise and specifically addresses a lot of season 1's problems (and your problems) in later seasons, though I'm not sure how to tell you that Rudy IS actually tasked with protecting/keeping the secret of ChalkZone and the fact that he's kind of bad at it is sort of the point. A lot of this review is honestly very nitpicky. Saying the show's premise is a problem because chalk boards were outdated by the time it aired is like saying Wreck-It Ralph doesn't work because arcades weren't much of a thing anymore when it came out either. I highly, HIGHLY recommend you watch the rest of the show (including the TV movie, "The Big Blow Up") and re-review it because season 1 is very much NOT a good way to gauge the series as a whole. I love ChalkZone a lot and know a lot of other people who do as well, and after eagerly anticipating this review we agreed in our Discord server this isn't an accurate or fair representation of it because it only takes into account the first season, which while we still enjoy, know is lackluster compared to the rest. Glad you liked the music though at least!

@@_MythicalWolf Yeah, I mean I get him not liking this, but anyone who grew up with the network of Nickelodeon would remember this show pretty vividly, even if they couldn't remember every episode, there were at least a few that stood out and was enjoyable. Of course he took the show far too seriously... for example, saying bad ideas are only ever erased is basically meant to tell the audience that we always forget bad ideas and remember the good, but we can learn from bad ideas as well to an extent that we learn even better from the bad than we do from the good. And wouldn't you know it, that episode had that exact point to tell through the story. But somehow he missed that and took it as the show having no respect for its premise. The show is very much a message of the day format, meant to give kids important existential and philosophical messages in an easy to digest format. And while they could have gone into it deep, the way they tackled all the topics they did was fun and it stood out as a very expressionist show (I say expression because the show is literally only limited by your own imagination and your concept.... not as in the characters themselves give expressionist motions or movements).

It was great too...or so I thought. ChalkZone is one of those shows that I thought I liked because in small doses, it was so cool that I wish I could watch the same bunch of episodes more often, but when I watched all 40 episodes online in 2020, I realize it was worse than I remember, and Nickelodeon had a very good reason for not syndicating it as often as The Fairly OddParents, Spongebob Squarepants and The Penguins of Madagascar. Not to be a bummer, but...I think ChalkZone doesn't have anywhere near the wide appeal of The Fairly OddParents and Spongebob because of what Mr. Enter said. The show rarely does anything interesting with its characters (I added that first part myself), It doesn't try to be funny, and it doesn't usually think through its implications. What special secret place would make White Lightning Chalk, and how often do you think Rudy's and Penny's parents or classmates notice they are gone and worry about their disappearance every time they sneak in to ChalkZone? Damn I have to disagree with you on this one. like completely. chalk zone was definitely one of my favorite shows and every time I come back to it it just gets better. It inspired me to be creative and to be an artist. Also I love the voice cast, especially snap and I thought it was a really fun time. Honestly I think they should make more of it. Bring it back for like a Netflix movie or something. It be really interesting to see what they can do with the story now. I remember having a chalkboard and chalk when I was little and trying to go to ChalkZone for real. Fun times. fun times. I even like the character development for Rudy because in the end he actually publishes his own comic books with his own original characters and I just I was so proud of him because that’s literally me. like we are the same. I can relate to him on all of his issues. On like every level. it’s amazing. He knows the artist struggle and he represents. Also there was an episode where there were a bunch of Snaps in chalk zone because he used snap as a character in one of his comics and kids saw it and liked it and drew it over and over again so they had to make a whole separate planet in ChalkZone just for all the snaps. I don’t think you watch far enough bro.

1:56 That actually became a plot point in one of the episodes: Water and similar substances are like acid to the chalkzone. When Rudy tried to hide some old, leaking milkshakes or something there instead of cleaning up, it was a race against time before the droplets reached the chalkzone's core which would have been disastrous.

It is a great show on Amazon, with Expies or similar characters to Guts, A magical girl from standard kid-friendly show, jojo reference characters, a librarian from a dark souls esq game, and a villain that is suprising with a twist on the concept of the show itself.

I'd say "Chalkzone" was a solid series. Not necessarily the best, but it was still fun to watch for all the creative stuff they did with the chalk. I especially liked how they separated the real and chalk world's respective denizens with the different outlines they used for the characters. As for the characters themselves, they were alright. Rudy and Penny worked fairly well as a team, and Snap had a nice spunky personality to even out the group.

There is 1 episode that I will NEVER FORGET. The teacher made a special asigment for the class and put the date for this proyect on the blackboard, then erase it. Then a thursday before the deadline on monday, the teacher ask the class if they are ready to present tomorrow, making everyone worried since most were hoping to finish on the weekend, and Rudy tells the teacher that he recalls him telling him he said it was for Monday, and says he can show proof for this. The teacher says that if he can show him on Friday he will prolong the date for sure. Since the teacher put the date on a square before deleting it, it would be a page on the chalkzone, so after looking for it and finding it, Rudy gets its... but has to take a picture and change it to negative since it is reversed on the chalkzone.

How did it wind up in the real world? Did anyone else ever visit Chalkzone? I haven't seen it in years though, and I don't think I've seen the later episodes. Especially not Season 4 where half of them premiered on Nicktoons IN 2008! HOPE YOU LIKE GETTING UP AT 4AM KIDS!!!! There's not too much I remember outside of clips that played on TeenNick. My friends and I just remembered chalk zone last night and tried rewatching it having fond memories of the show. And we felt pretty much the same way. Bored out of our minds. We totally saw how great the premise is and the potential the show had. But man, it really felt like they didn’t do anything with it. I totally agree with you there. Humor was pretty juvenile. I don’t mean crass or immature, but very safe and mild , without much punch. I will say tho. Ur absolutely right. The music of this show is damn good. We noticed this when watching skrawl sing. We couldn’t get enough of it and watched it over and over again. Speaking of Skrawl, he’s probably one of the best characters in the show. He’s fun to look at, like awesome character design wise. And Jim Cummings voice work just nailed him. Skrawl almost feels too good for this show. Yeah, I like skrawl, a lot. And probs the only reason I’ll probably never forget chalkzone lol.

This was one of my favorites shows when it was airing, but what stuck with me was mostly the premisse and a few scenes I remember from the show. I remember one episode (or special, idk exactly) where they lost the magical chalk (shockers) and go through several different worlds, as sort of indirect way into Chalk Zone. They pass through a pencil zone, a white board zone (which had nothing because a white board eraser had erased everything, I found that pretty dark at the time). Imagine all the spin-offs it could come out of that. Imagine a Digital Zone where all erased data goes to. That would be cool.

I remember watching Chalkzone when they were two shorts on Oh Yeah! Cartoons, then as a full show until its schedule got jerked around. The third and fourth seasons outside of the holiday specials aren't as good and binge watching it is a chore because my attention span keeps darting towards other cartoons like A.R.M. I love the idea and the near realistic chalk art of the shorts. I'm not too keen on the execution in the show. All Grown Up was good...the special. As a kid I really liked it and thought it was neat, but when they spun it off into a TV show it sucked hard on the teat of that reception with the only thing I remember liking being Chuckie and Angelica and/or Dil. As for the chalkboard thing...in high school we still had chalkboards. Two words: math class.

I respect your opinion. Personally, this is my favorite Nicktoon and one of my favorite shows from my childhood. The different styles within it inspired me to get into different styles of art [3D, traditional, digital]. Although, yes, a character can be boring if they can do anything, watching it long ago and recently, I always found Rudy's use of his chalk fitting/creative for the situation. I do wish you talked more about Scrawl, as he's a reoccurring villain who stole the show for me whenever he was the focus of an episode. My favorite segment (besides the music videos and the intro) had to be whenever Snap was on his own, it really showed me he could carry a plot without Rudy or Penny around. I remember the mustache episode fondly!

Do not tell Mr. Burnett or Mr. Huber I said this, but I am kind of glad they never got to do such interesting stories about the British aristocrat kid who stayed in ChalkZone too long, turned into a Chalkzoner, and got eternally banned from ChalkZone after causing so much mayhem. And they never got to have a finale where Penny and Rudy went to college and Snap said good-bye. Why? Because there is a big fundamental flaw with the execution of ChalkZone. To quote The Good Place, "It kills fun, passion, excitement and love till all you have left are milkshakes." No, I am not thinking specifically about Joe Tabootie's cheeseburger milkshakes, but I always wanted to try one of those. ChalkZone (probably) is not the kind of show that will turn you into a happiness zombie (see Newborn Cuties for that), but the real problem is either poor directing or poor writing that hinders ChalkZone from being a successful show with emotional appeal, entertainment value and humor that kids can enjoy and re-watch. ChalkZone has very unique issues because it really knows how to make cool things forgettable. The Fairly OddParents lost its original spark along the way, but I think ChalkZone never had an "original spark." January 28, 2021, 11:12am

I Mean; Instead of talking nonsense, and using words NOBODY would ever realistically use; they use actual normal words when they're older in All Grown Up!! Plus Angelica's no longer the D3m0n Child she was when she was younger; she's a LOT nicer; and the show has a character that's so mean, they make Angelica look like a true Angel in comparison, making her name more fitting and less ironic!! and the show had a Pretty Kickash theme song!!

1:25 to be honest, even the dry erase marker had made chalk obsolete, by the time Chalk zone came on.

I feel like I did watch ChalkZone as a kid, but I'm not sure if I did and only remembered it because I grew up watching similar things, like that episode of Rupert where they enter a land of chalk drawings or... Simon and the Land of Chalk Drawings, anyone remember that?

Even at 30, I fondly remember this show. As do my friends . You should try watching season 2. Side note, smart boards must have been a rich kid thing to have lol. I didn't get them till middlescool

I see what you mean, Mr. Enter. Chalk Zone isn't known for its jokes. I guess they put way too much effort into the visuals and the animation, and that is why it has a lot of really cool storylines that are not bad, but more forgettable than we would expect them to be. I suggest you to look at the later seasons, like Season 3-4. These are the show's highlight, especially Season 4. It's one of those shows that start off bad but end up being good.

I know you're making a joke, but I'd like to point out that chalkboards didn't start being replaced by smartboards (and now this weird projected smartboard/dry erase board hybrid) until the late 2000's and early 2010's. Yes, I know they existed since the 90's, but they didn't grow into popularity across the U.S. until this past decade.

I am a little sad to say that I think you are right. I saw very little of this show as a kid, but I remembered thinking the concept was really cool. A year or two ago I remembered the show and decided to watch it, but it wasn't executed well enough for me to watch more than a couple of episodes.

The episode with the vacuum cleaner is the first time I ever had an existential crisis. To see a world I'd gotten attached to being just inches away from true annihilation, with nothing but an endless void left in its place. It literally gave kid me nightmares about the end of the universe. I would wake up screaming because everything around me was turning into nothing but blackness. I still consider it one of the most frightening episodes of a TV show I've ever seen.

On the "2 years ago" bit having the same teacher and classroom, that's not really an issue. Not all school systems in early years of education work the same. I've had and/or seen systems where the class remained in the same room all day while the teachers moved in and out, OR where each teacher had a classroom and the students moved in and out, OR where the teacher taught all subjects in a single classroom for a single class, OR having the teacher accompany the class group all the way until the next level of education (elementary to middle or to high school). Heck some schools don't even divide those levels the same, I recall some school going from 1st to 8th grade instead of 1-6. I assisted a middle school that had 7,8,9 for a year, and one that only had 7 and 8th grades where 9th and up were at the high school (different location). Really with all those variations, the point in the video just turns into a weird nitpick.... I know it's not the most normal model but still.

It’s weird how my and his tastes sometimes match exactly and sometimes are totally different. I guess it comes down to me being easily entertained/invested and Mr. Enter valuing storytelling above all else bc I enjoyed this show and Doug as well. According to his dA he also didn’t care for Back at the Barnyard and I LOVE that show. But *shrug*... (and all 3 of the shows I mentioned, I’ve watched through recently, so no it’s not nostalgia talking. I didn’t even watch Doug or ChalkZone as a kid)
