Chaka recorded "I'm every woman" in 1978. Cissy sang background on it, not Whitney. Chaka s "Clouds" and "Our loves in danger" are the songs Whitney sang background.

Was it because she was not a union member and not getting paid as such. In her forward to Narada's book, Chaka states that mumma Cissy was her number one b/ground singer and told her one day 'I have a daughter who can sing'. Chaka said..'bring her in' and at that session she was quite blown away by Whitney saying ' a star is born'. It is quite poss (hypothetically) that this happened at the end of the I'm Every Woman sessions and was quickly allowed to add her vox (uncredited ?)to the mix and that lead to her talent being formally recognised by participating on the Ashford & Simpson compositions on the Naughty album where I feel you can really hear her even with a couple of others in the mix. I always enjoy hearing Nippy on BVs (eg on BeBe & CeCe's albums) , the Neville Bros et al

Both Joni Mitchell and Chaka Khan think of themselves as jazz musicians who dabbled in pop. It's probably not how most of the public sees them, but it is the essence of who they are as artists. Both have worked with some of the biggest legends in jazz, and in fact Chaka sang background vocals on Joni's experimental 70's album "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter", so not only are they kindred spirits artistically, they go way back with each other personally. I would love to hear what a Chaka Khan album of Joni Mitchell songs would sound like.

Damn Chaka Khan still looks the same. She is doing something right in this life she is truly Blessed!
