I met Chaka Khan in early 80's when she played at New Orleans Jazz Fest at Fair Grounds - where I am from - me and my best friend were back stage - Chaka was sitting on a table - me and my buddy was taking pictures of her - she asked if we wanted to take picture together with her - LIKE REALLY!!!! So she posed with both of us and gave us each a Kiss on the Cheek - I did not wash my face for like 2 weeks.... Lol.... Love you Chaka!!!!

The irony of this video is that that was EXACTLY what was going on. Chaka wanted to leave Rufus badly by this point. The relationship was very strained. Chaka was wanting to focus more on her solo career however she was contractually obligated to return for this album and one more. The officially split in 1983 with their live concert album.

Yes it did get better, many years later thou. There was talk around 1985 or 86 of them reteaming but it never happened. I believe at this point they are all ok with each other. Tony Maidien has also played some dates with Chaka in the past.

Chris Gilrath Very true and by this time, Chaka had just released her debut solo album w/ "Im Every Woman ( which was number 1 for 3 weeks i believe in the fall of 78), and was nominated for a Grammy. I think that 1st taste of freedom and success soured her on the the idea of returning to the strained and volatile relationship with the group.

@@nycsongman9758 Dick Clark and Don Cornelius were major promoters of R&B music (back when it was actual music), but they were laughably poor interviewers. Dick Clark gets special credit for promoting black acts that hadn’t crossed-over, including ones that never did. I especially loved the Don Cornelius interview with Public Enemy, in which he could not contain his (well-justified) disdain for hiphop.

He was fired for getting into a ANOTHER physical altercation with Chaka in late 1976 when recording their iconic ASK RUFUS record. . He got into a fight with Chaka’s husband Richard and Chaka bust him over the head with a bottle of Wine. The first time she fought him was when she was pregnant with her daughter in 1973
