CCI 38 Special / 357 Magnum Shotshells

Спорт

Testing and reviewing the CCI 38 Special / 357 Magnum shotshells. I shoot them out of a snub nose and a 4 inch revolver to see how they pattern on targets. Then we test them on an apple!

I use a TON of these things around the Farm as i have a severe rodent and rattle snake problem, they definitely are better out of a short barrel and they work 100% better than one would imagine these things are absolute hell on running Pack rats and Rattle snakes I have even taken rattlers with the .22LR version out of my NAA 1 1/8" barrel that barely gets it done but puts em down enough to not bite the dogs and then be finished

Thanks for watching Sean! I've use lots of the 22 mag shot shells out of my NAA. They are very effective. Although requiring multiple shots on larger snakes.

It would be interesting to compare to the old handload trick of using gas checks as wads with no capsule.

It wasn't the rifling that threw the shots off. It was the length of the barrel. Birdshots do the same thing. In longer barrels, all those pellets bounce around inside the barrel as they travel the length causing them to fly out much more sporadically.

Thanks KingDavid! That makes sense. Especially since the shot shells don't have any sort of wadding trying to keep the pellets together.

This was VERY HELPFUL! I walk for exercise around a local City reservoir, which has it's fair share of rattle snakes. I have not shot any snakes yet, but have come very close. I carry a 2" S&W 5 shot revolver with a couple rounds of CCI snake shot up front, and JHP behind it, because this area has more than just snakes to worry about. How about shooting a Dole banana? I think the Dole crop has thicker skins.

Not a bad idea. Need to take some bananas with me next time. I've had a good experiences with the shot shells vs even big rattle snakes. Allows for a quick shot as you are jumping backwards yelling $h*t! 😂 I also load like you do. I usually have two rounds of shotshells followed up by some self-defense loads.

Not the first video I watched on these where the groups were tighter out of the snub nosed revolver. I have a box of these I bought while I was going to an uncleared property. Worried I may come across a rattler that was too close to back away from. Glad to say I did not. I was carrying them in a SP101 with a 2.25 barrel. I think from 6 to 10 feet away they would be effective.

Thanks for watching davva! I suppose the longer barrels start to spin the shot which leads to larger groups. I agree that between 6 - 10 feet they are relatively effective. I've had to use them a couple of times throughout my life and both times it stopped the threat.

Asked for pellet count and got this video. They didn't say but the targets answered my question. Couldn't count fast enough. Lol, patterns looked great, no reason to be disappointed. I got a 2 and a half inch barrel, went out of my way across town to get some 38 snake shot. I carry on empty, 1 snake shot then range rounds. City or country.

Those things are wayyyyyyyy overpriced. That being said, I am going to purchase some. I am in East Texas and I've come across too many copperheads to give an accurate count. I try not to kill them if I can avoid it but when they are near my animals and I cannot catch them, I have to dispatch them. Hooefully these will work well out of my snubnose.

  • @texmexshoots

I think you'll be happy with them MP. They will work well enough at short ranges and in a snub nose its the lightest snake charmer you can carry. Well, I guess except for a .410 derringer. But those aren't fun to shoot!
