I can't say these would be my choice for self defense, but definitely better than a sharp stick. I can say that they do work very well on the rattlesnakes on my property every summer. Thanks for the video.

This is honestly probably one of the worst loadings one could chose for self defense if not the worst.

Thank you for your very informative video on .38 spl shot shells. I am considering buying shot shells for self defense because I live in an apartment and I think shot shells would eliminate my fear of over penetration and the possibility of maybe missing my intended target and hitting some innocent person in next apartment. I think loading the first chamber up with a shot shell then loading the rest with regular 38 hollow points will give me some peace of mind. Based on your water jug experiments, I believe I will choose the number 4 shot red tip shells. Thanks again, good job.

I would advise against that notion for a defensive round against bipedal threats. You may not want that first round to be a deterrent shot only and may not have the luxury of a second chance shot.

For this reason I do think the s&w governor is a very valid self defense weapon with .410 shotshells

These are good for self-defense for someone who doesn't train...or doesn't shoot a lot ....it gives you the opportunity to aim for the face at a short distance. A single bullet is so much harder to hit for the average person. Plus they don't have to worry about killing a bystander when they do miss. Just don't load the entire gun with shot

Great for home defense especially for a small female or someone who doesn't shoot much. Will not kill your k8ds on the other side wall. Two.. makes boom sound which will usually get someone out of your house third.... first tow rounds snake shot , round 3,4,5 normal, 38 l9ads of your choice. Take down rounds when the first two don't do it.

A shot to the face with either would end the attack NOW! even at 21 feet. Of course follow the first shot with HP's... But the shot charge will buy you valuable time without precise aim. I think # 6 or 7 1/2 shot would be better. #4's mite be better in 44 special, due to more room.

I wonder how they would do if loaded up with hevi shot ,might be a defense option.

Self defense vs Humans , perhaps not. BUT Humans aren't the only hostile on the planet. These make decent self defence loads vs Rattlers. So it depends on your target.

10 feet is one thing. 1 or 2 feet away is ridiculous! Why not show shots of 38 special blue or red against water jugs at 10 feet?

Never use for self defense. If they only work at 2 feet, this means you will have to pack another gun for further distances. Totally insane. Carry the one that will do not all and be done with it. If you are even thinking of using a .38 shot shell for self defense, you should not be carrying a gun at all. It does not even seem to me to be any good for snakes since the middle of the pattern has no shot in them. A .22lr shot shell does better for snakes than this one. Good to hear too since these .38’s run about $25 per 10 round pack.

Poor defense load good for pest what it’s made for.
