@Alex F I have nothing against Trump supporters personally, but what I see is a lot of people on the constant defense, bitter and nasty at whichever Democrats Trump targets that week. I've rarely spoken to or debated with a Trump supporter who wasn't personally angry with whoever Trump said to be angry with. And they almost always express that at some point in a conversation, even when we're not talking politics. People say Liberals are overly emotional, but I've never seen a more easily triggerable, defensive group of people. That's bitter and miserable, whether or not their trained hurrahs indicate it lol

Then we need to institute some responsible democratic socialist programs like Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, free education through advanced degrees and free elder care. Of course our taxes will have to be increased but with proper medical care and free education; I would not have been bankrupted by a medical bill. Had she done such a great job, John McCain, not Barack Obama, would've been elected president. Also, Palin made it clear that she was not properly briefed or prepared for this interview. She lacked the knowledge, certainty, poise, or confidence to successfully carry this interview. Her posture was defensive, you can see how uncomfortable she was. Because s female was interviewing her, she anticipated softball style questions. This woman couldn't even answer a simple question about the type of reading she does. Let's not even get into her position on foreign policy experience. Palin did an atrocious job, she took queries she couldn't handle to be personal. I am happy that Couric conducted this interview. My only regret is that Trump never sat down with Couric, before the 2016 election.

@Harald Harster Perhaps to see a defining moment in contemporary U.S. politics, when the ability to string together a coherent sentence or put forth actual policy was no longer a requisite to hold office at the highest levels. I mean, George W. Bush nudged us in that direction, but Palin goddamn wrestled common sense and intelligible English to the ground. And people STILL wanted her in the VP seat.

Craig Hicks Obama is nothing but a politician, he simply doesn't understand how the system works because he was a senator for only a few years prior to his election to the oval office. McCain is of course almost just as much of a moron, but not quite there with Obama which is why I would have preferred him. Romney on the other hand was an outstanding candidate. I mean he had 25 years balancing budgets in the business world, founder of a vastly successful investment firm worth an approximate $75B, and governor experience in the bluest state in the country as a Republican with a state legislature that was 87% Democrat. All these Democrats and left wingers put him out to be a corrupt rich guy who wanted nothing but to see the country end in flames which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. He ran a shitty campaign in 2012 and lost as a result. The 2008 primaries was lost by Romney because McCain was fed dog food by the biased mediators during the debates. Parties mean plenty buddy. There's a huge reason why we care that the congress is going to have a Republican majority in 2 days.

First she was a CORRUPT Mayor of Wasilla where she spent 9 MILLION taxpayer dollars on an ice hockey facility. Wasilla was an itty bitty town with 2 stop lights. This was one of the best eye opening interviews Katie has ever done. I wonder when she heard Palin's responses to the questions if she secretly laughed inside. How did Katie keep a straight face without making some kind of facial expressions like "WTF is she saying?" Great interview KC, you did your job perfectly!

Watching this after the SNL parody, i got confused as to which one was the real interview. Lol And poor McCain (RIP) twiddling his fingers and squirming in his seat as he slowly realized in that interview the big mistake he made.

@@mauricepowers8079 I thought that Couric was always known as a tough interviewer: consistently well-prepared, asking tough questions that don’t leave much wiggle room.

I remember watching this when it originally aired. What really dumbfounded me was that she wouldn’t even answer a simple “what do you like to read” question. It was maddening. And she was chosen to run as VP - the second highest office in the US - and she’d never been out of the country? Crazy.

And she said that was a "gotcha question". "What magazines do you read?" is a gotcha question? Seriously If you had really read magazines like you said, just say which one. If you were lying about reading magazines, just name ANY magazine. Surely you at least knew the name of a magazine. Just say Time, newsweek.....".

At this point of the interview it was clear to Palin that Kaitey was acting unprofessionally and working for the Obama campaign; she was trying to illicit gaffes that she could demean Sarah with.

Chosen because Hillary bowed out of the race and so McCain's campaign thought we women would vote for her because we had anatomy in common...

It feels like she had prepared answers, but she completely messed everything up under pressure of someone, who's actually a proper journalist.I mean she couldn't have just said I don't know anything about foreign policy, but you can't say that when you're a politician right.

"Alaska has a very narrow maritime border against a foreign country, Russia"....maaaan this aged really well😂😂

This is embarrassing to the point of non-belief, I was literally waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump from behind Katie with an MTV camera crew.

Great interviewer, follow-ups are precise and challenging when required (ie when Palin skirts around the point). This is a skill that is now sorely lacking in MSM today!

Thank you Tina Fay and also a big thanks to SNL for actually making "Sarah Palin" look like somewhat competent in those sketches. 😨😨😱😱

The fact that Katie Couric was able to even hold a semblance of decorum during these interviews just proves her position as a true, die hard, American journalist, tactful, gracious, insightful, challenging, and extremely inspirational means EVERYTHING. Palin is so pathetically under the respect that Couric is. I feel so bad that she even had to be compared to this embarrassment.

Palin sounds like a mensa compared to the past four years. Poor Sara was out of her league then and we did not heed the trend that began with this type of vague generalized statements that tell the listener nothing.

I really don’t know of anyone who can match Katie’s preparation, understanding of issues and communicative strengths.

Looking back on this now, I’d say John McCain would have been president if he didn’t pick Palin. And I can see why McCain didn’t want her at his funeral.

I don’t think he would’ve been president. Bush’ popularity at the time of the election was in the 20s and most people associated McCain with Bush. The republicans were at a very low point much like they are now in 2021

I think people forget how charismatic Obama was. McCain picked Sarah Palin because he was trailing in the polls. If they found the right running mate it certainly could of helped but it’s hard to know.

I love Tina Fey, She's Hilarious the way she bumbles around not making any sense adding words she think is important out of order, completely random.Just like Palin :D

They were BOTH so phony... he was talking behind her back and she was pretending she knew wtf she was talking about...and he was pretending SHE KNEW what she was talking about. 🤣😆

Boy, I forgot just how bad this interview was. Good Lord.

OK, good to hear from another conservative who found several parts of this interview incoherent. (I did agree with her on some small things, though.) I could not help but laugh at the irony of Palin praising McCain for taking stick from members of his own party, given how she has degenerated into a Trump-supporting robot who threw her great friend Senator Ted Cruz under the bus when he didn't toe the new party line.

Katie asked a serious number of much more important questions that she gave very concerning answers to, but to this day the most stand out question has been "what magazines have you been reading?" WHAT??

anyone just watched the movie Game Change (great movie) then wanted to see the real interview lol
