God bless you for toughing it out. Looks like both trips touched on the fickleness of fishing. You can kill the fish one day and the next is just a calamity of tackle breakdowns, weather or getting hooked or hurt. We take the good w bad. I always say you could pick your perfect spot and time of year and have different results every time. Sometimes the fish gods do give us consistency. Keep plugging brother.

I’ve lived in Murrells inlet for 3 years and I’ve only caught a handful of flounder over 17 inches it’s pretty crazy how pressured the actual inlet is. I talked to a charter captain in Charleston and he said that his buddies in Murrells inlet say it’s super rough. I’ve been fishing bulls bay and Pawleys Island and I’ve had much better luck in both.

Great video Rich. I fish murrels inlet pretty much every week on the yak and the creeks and that jetty have been a struggle the past month, at least for me. Not sure if it's due to how hot the water has been lately. Flounder have been around but everything else has been super inconsistent.

You were fishing my local spot (Wrightsville Beach South end). There are plenty of lizardfish here at the inlet. It is not worth the time to try eating them. They have a mushy texture and small bones and the taste does not make up for it (not even a little). Try puffers, they taste MUCH better and have almost no bones.

While trying to get the tangle undone, the wind blew the boat up on the shore. So in the cold and wind, I had to jump in the water to get the boa ton the water again. We were on our way out of Key West on my birthday July 4th I was working of course as usual the life of a fisherman. When you head out Oceanside in the morning the sun is in your face, my capt a 50yr Keys veteran and the best boat man I've ever fished with ran over about a half acre glob of net, it locked the props up and encompassed the rudders as well, there is no choice but to jump in and get to work, capt in his late 70s or mate in his 40s it's a no brainer who is jumping in. In I went in one of the most Bull and Tiger Shark rich areas the Keys has to offer...uuugghh needless to say with only a mask and some fins I would dive on a breath and cut cut cut and then pop back up for over an hour I was totally gassed but got it. Customers were in town for a few days and agreed to go in and try again tomorrow. A 42nd B Day I will never forget. Stuff happens and you must be ready!!! ALWAYS ALWAYS carry a serrated knife as rope and netting isn't easy to cut with a smooth blade!! Good stuff Rich!!!!

also dude I aint gonna lie to ya the marsh behind Masonboro island is a better play than the jetties that area is fished extremely hard by charters and recreational fisherman and produces on occasion however the afternoon you had out there is decently par for the course. Im watching now in January and if this video is from four months ago which would be around September, I was catching 20+ inch Spanish off the pier on light tackle casting Gotcha plugs in the surf at the Oceanic restaurant pier about a mile up from this spot. Doesn't cost money to go on the pier there. Another new place to try would be the Wildlife access out at Fort Fisher and fish the rock jetty over there out of the basin and work your way back into the bays. Around that time as well I was limiting on trout and getting a mixed bag of flounder and reds. River Road park is an excellent area to access the Cape Fear river. Wildlife access at Carolina Beach gives you the ability to access the river via Snows Cut or fish the ICW around CB Inlet. Also just North of WB is Topsail island. Lots of great fishing there. Im a kayak guy as well and have had to branch out from WB proper to get on a decent bite in the Wilmington area but there are fish to be caught. Love the videos bro, hope to catch you next time you're in the city.

If you inserted a long fluorocarbon line from the back of the kayak then tied it securely to end of the remaining broken rudder line, then grabbed the fluorocarbon line from hole in the middle of the kayak, then tied it together to the line coming from the steering lever, probably you could have fixed it.

hahaha yeahhh I know. Im always constantly looking at the weather but that storm truly developed out of a nothing. You live and you learn. I stopped ion Jersey briefly just to see my mom and sister but went straight out to Montauk.

I agree, I got stuck in a really bad storm a couple weeks ago on my kayak. Tucked up in the mangroves as best I could. I missed getting hit by multiple lighting strikes and honestly thought I was done. Watching him go through that completely in open water gave me PTSD.

If you go in at the first sign of a storm you would get zero fishing in all summer!!! They are around everyday and you can usually get around them but I hear what you are saying

Rich I fish Murrells pretty often and have had the most success inside the jetty and on the ocean side as well. Big flounder and big reds not to mention tons of blues and Spanish.

Might have been able to bend a rod in the compartment to pass the line through. It's skinny and longer then your arm.

My shoes, Columbia water/boat shoes amzn.to/3TJY92v The stinky thing might be hard to prevent. But if you wash with freshwater after each use and let dry in the sun you should be good.
