    Another great video, thanks Mr. Skinner! 2 things. I am a heavy duty freshwater largemouth bass enthusiast. Every spring I get what I call spinnerbait elbow. Comes from slinging a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait all day every spring for a few weeks. Painful but worth it! Also, ah yes the "Gut". About as close to the old "shooting fish in a barrel" as one can ever get. Too much fun!

There are many videos for this but you have to figure out what you are suffering from. For me there are massages that really help. It has drastically cut down on the pain.

    Such a pleasure getting older! After 4 decades I had to essentially give up surf casting, those 11' rods and 3oz+ lures are, sadly, out of my life for good. Now my only "surf casting" has to be with an 8' rod and lures under 2oz. and I have to be gentle when casting.

  • @JohnSkinnerFishing

    I would use the bay rod if I was tog fishing with jigs and 15# braid with jig weights to 1.5 ounces. If you fish heavier than that, then the HC would be a better match.

  • @Livebetter12
    @Livebetter1215 күн бұрын

    How much weight do you think this rod can handle? I want to use it in the race but often need 16-20oz bank sinker on the 3 way bucktail ... I only have 10oz cannonball which I’ll try next time! But figured I’d ask.

    Hi John, How come you don't use diamond jigs in this area? I won't even attempt to use a $20+ flutter spoon here because the bottom is so unforgiving.

  • @JohnSkinnerFishing

    @JohnSkinnerFishing

    I would use a bucktail before I'd use a diamond jig. With a 3-way bucktail rig I can be assured I'm in the strike zone all of the time with a good presentation.

    @@JohnSkinnerFishing on the slow ends of the tide when the drift is less than 2 mph, I find that the 3 way isn't that effective. I find that a diamond jig cranked off the bottom can trigger a reaction bite, even during slack tide. Drop a jig to the bottom, crank up 10 times and repeat. Vary the retreive speed and the number of cranks until dialed in. I'd love to see this technique side by side with the flutter spoon.

  • @JohnSkinnerFishing

    @JohnSkinnerFishing

    16 күн бұрын

    Right - a 3-way doesn't work well below about 1.7mph. In those cases I'd spoon or drop a lighter weight bucktail down, usually about 3 ounces or less depending on scope. But yes, a diamond jig would be a decent way to fish those slow periods if there was a lot of wind and scoping - like today!
