Thanks for the video doctor, I have a question, always a herniated disc turns black? Six years ago I felt a heavy back pain but it was until now that I went to do an MRI, where they found me a disc protusion at L4-L5, My fear is that maybe that little protusion once was a Big herniation and through those six years that passed the herniation became smaller, but My disc is almost white (fully hydrated) except for a little portion by the end. It is possible that I had an important herniation and I ignored it?

I have hyperreflexia in lower limbs and plantar response right side equivocal left. What could cause that? I do have a protruding disc low down.

Mine was missed. Ended up having emergency surgery, but the damage was already done. Settled my legal case as my hospital made me an offer just before the court date. But money changes nothing in terms of my condition. We have such a long way to go still to reduce the number of CES cases.

Same mine was progressive and my GP conservatively managed me with more and more meds over several months until one day I crawled into his practice in tears from the pain and limb numbness and begged for an MRI. He sent me to a small private A & E where they took my money did bloods and an xray, gave me analgesia and sent me home. The next day I tried to get out of bed and couldn't feel my lower legs completely. I stumbled, fell and smashed my head into the bedroom wall knocking myself out only to wakeup in a trauma centre and told I would be needing urgent spinal surgery. 6 years later following a double laminectomy/discectomy I still have chronic pain and partial left foot numbness but am fortunate enough to have all my other faculties. My injury initially caused by work a few years earlier as a nurse was hard to prove as it was a progressive condition in my case. My employer offered to settle out of court but like you it will never make up for the lifetime of pain and other health, lifestyle and social issues that comes with it. Sorry to hear you have had to go through this situation too.

@@OrthoEvalPal idk i have had issues for over a year i have degenerative disc disease with sciatica from a laminectomy in 2016 i didn't even know what laminectomy was till i was in recovery the doctor said something along lines the mri wasn't all clear so when went in had to do more invasive. i heard of cauda equina in fall of 2019. and bit concerned because been having embarassing fecal leakage like after i have bowel movements no matter how much i clean. i also had c.diff in 2017 and now i have weird and exhuasting routine.i have at least 6 bowel movements a day sometimes 8 or 9. and like they seem be apart like every half hour to hour. i don't have runs nor am i constipated most of time. i also have to pee a lot before my back issues i got diagnosed during a bladder surgery with IC i even have issues with completely emptying bladder like i will urinate full stream then stop as discomfort and tired. but still feel the urgen so i have to like strain bit to get the rest of urine out and i have urinated like 20 times in a day and so hard to keep hydrated enough like am i peeing and pooping away fluids. all i do all day is sleep have sleep issues and run to the toilet buy toilet paper every few days. i have tendency to over react and so when i was trying find out why i could be leaking feces. i get tiny bits and even from passing wind. my bottom is so sore lot from all wiping and trying clean. i talked to someone who has cauda with my concerns and was told well symptoms can come gradually and may not get every symptom. oh and i even when just needing t have bowel movment i end up expelling urine like at same time i know because been paranoid since c.diff so i check toilet bowl an sure enough there is urine light yellow in color. i worry because what if i have it. long term if too late i can't self catheterize myself after my first shoulder surgery which required cathterizaton which didn't hurt putting in but made my IC act up and to point where my bladder muscles painfully reflexivlely contracted like i would sitting down on toilet to urinate.i have other disabilities that would also impair me of being able to self catheterize if came to it. It could just be GI issue fecal incontinence but i find bit odd that i have the bladder issues and back and sciatic pain and even off and on numbness down to my feet i can't sit upright long i need to recline it's misery like starts off as pressure in lower back when standing more than few minutes to actual pain and it makes me feel almost out of breath but could be im just exhauseted from pain and stress. it's very hard for me to bend down so awkward and sometimes painful and i have even lost my balance at times. i have to grab on to things just to get up. if i have bend over or hunch over it sometimes takes me forever to like walk upright not hunched over.i try to repositionn takes while and it hurt. i had an appt with GI on april 7th but cancelled because coronavirus. no reschedule given keep in mind i haven been waiting 8 months for it and they even told me im top priority for calling when cancelllations and they had some i guess like well nice no call i can't drive due disabiilities and same can't work. i have to make sure i have ride to appoinments. but as concerned my other doctors were they couldn't get me in sooner. so like im confused and worried like should i got er and get examined and if tested esp during coronavirus. i tried to make an appt with my spine doctor surgeon but can't get in til may 26th and that if not cancelled which i think will. goodness knows when GI none of these places will even do phone sessions with me for now. so now i feel torn like desparate to make sure i don't end up more disabled. i mean i totally if go er to rule out CES, to have the fecal leakage issue concern adressed seeing how then it would be a GI issue. and quite alarming. someone who has Cauda acutually online inbox told her my story and she said symtoms can come on graduaally with some of them coming and going but potitential to get worse. oh and when i mentioned cauda equina to spine center at hosptial i go t they just said well if i so worried to just go to er. but like what to do put risk of getting coronavirus and complications and or risk having lower quality of lifee like not already low from other things and oh forgot to add if i am its been rare these days but stuck on toilet more than 10 minutes my back will hurt and both legs like fall completely asleep was so bad a couple months ago when standing up to take step it felt odd i almost fell grabbed onto a bar took a little bit for the numbness to subside. i can't keep up with my toddler nephew and feel bad because i want to need to help out with him but he runs so fast i can't i am overweight by the way but so painful to even walk much and i do have PCOS too. i don't think me having to poop so frequent every day has anythign to to with cauda but still distressing and obv gi issue. wonder if pettinent for me to go er at this point to rule out CES and kill two birds with one stone have GI issue looked at if no CES. goodness knows could be a year before i get any help due coronavirus. i used to really love walking and i would could walk pretty fast. now it's painful and lot effort i am bone exhuasted too quickly. i was gonna try pt for my ddd but well i know with coronavirus not be considered essential or urgent. i really have nothing to do to pain relief. i am so slow at walking now too. so much that people don't know or understand issue get all huffy that i am slow and in tears from pain like i can't help it... i mean still need to walk gotta make sure get little in every couple of days to prevent blood clots. and need fresh air. not be all tmi but i have been needing buy tp every few days and every two for wipes to try clean my bottom more nothing stops the small amounts of fecal matter well does very short term like as soon as pass wind well there goes that. yeah so i haven' gotten examined no test for possible CES. do i bite bullet on corona and go er to be on safe side for the possible cauda. which one be worse to live with. my mom knows i over react a lot but she even looked up cauda equina she knows all symptoms i been having she is concerned to but scared for me too on poss catching corona. but like longer i wait bad? i even fear since i have no one to advocate for me oh yeah on the spectrum too. i can't even have my mom with me be seen in er hospital rules. not that i want worry about my mom either. like feel though i may be pushed aside if the hosptial don't know much on CES i can't assert myself very well so i have been taken advantaged of before. if i have hope caught soon enough to retain most of my ability. i don't worry about trying file claims on ssi. cant pay out of pocket. pretty lame that spine center couldnt even set up phone session on issue.and have wait long for appt. i never actually been worried about my IC so after diagnois and recovry well i just deal with somewhat. i don't like hosptials but like i feel need to rule out but am i just being paranoid?

@@OrthoEvalPal Wrong! I’ve had cauda equina syndrome for over 20 years. I have damaged nerves from my second spinal op which was 20 years ago and i’ve been wheelchair-bound all this time, needing to use a catheter permanently and a bowel irrigation program. Just a few weeks ago though I had the central disc prolapse which was incredibly severe ended up having emergency spinal surgery for the third time and this was to prevent the cauda equina syndrome becoming worse. This time it was a central disc prolapse and was a lot more serious. I’m still recovering in hospital.

MRI can miss it! Since the spine shifts with any kind of movement laying down can shift the anatomy enough to make it appear normal. If suspicion is high enough neurosurgical evaluation is still recommended even with normal imaging.

10 months ago I hurt my back lifting, I went to the ER I was in so much pain, but they sent me to see a GP, she sent me to physiotherapy, they said I had l4 l5 slipped disc and foot drop, I didn't get an mri for 5 months, I was told by ortho there was nothing wrong with my back go see Neuro, they did nerve conduction and muscle test, I've been told I have l5 radiculopathy, i have little to no pain, I can't walk properly both legs like lead, have right foot drop numb buttocks and back of legs and hang on to stuff to steady myself but some days it varies. It seems I'm getting nowhere. Is this consistent with CES???

So have been bing treated for a prostate issue for 3 months now with NO improvement. (Doxy and Cipro Multiple rounds) Didn't know the saddle numbness feeling and the leg being weak and so forth were a symptom to relate when I spoke with my doctor. I have been under the assumption that this was all my prostate and the other stuff was just me getting old. So last night the pressure and numbness got so bad in my groin I went to the ER where they did a CT with Contrast on my abdomen. Found nothing. But this was the first time it had all been related together, and the first time they mentioned, or I had heard of this syndrome. So now they suggest I get an MRI. But being my white count is completely normal and I have never had ANY fever or even felt bad as far as that goes, kind of go against this? Or are there different onsets where there is no fever and so forth? This is so crazy, but man...this fits the absolute closest to anything I have been introduced to, kind of bone chilling because some of thee symptoms make you feel crazy trying to explain them. Thanks for the video, would love to hear your thoughts on my situation. Gratitude Paul!
