A new neighbor moved in next door. Probably a nice person. I had two middle-aged Siamese sisters who were very territorial. The man had two Rottweilers, probably nice, trained animals. My two cats were asleep under my car in the driveway. The man let his dogs out off-leash and I yelled at him that I had two cats outside. His two dogs ran into my yard, saw the sleeping sisters, and foolishly put their noses under my car. Lots of barking quickly becoming screaming. Poor dogs. My cats usually fought and hunted as a team, and the dogs took a few claws before the dog owner rescued his animals. Then tried to get on me for my “killer” cats.

Our 9kg Norwegian Forest went into protect mode for my Wifey when some d-head druggie was hopping fences while being chased by the cops. He made the mistake of jumping into our yard that is cat proofed. He got stuck and was trying our locked gates to get out. Our Girl was locked to my Wifey like a circling shark. They are renowned for their sweetness but try to mess with the planets oldest natural breed of domestic feline. The Vikings knew too about their deep family protection. Awesome vid Doc 😺

My itty bitty calico cat makes a growl that sounds like it's rising from the depths of hell. However, she's so small that she can hide up fully inside recliner chairs. She's also a coward and will crawl up into the chair at any unexpected sound. So everyone who has come to feed her while I'm gone has reported the furniture growling at them, but the food is gone and the litterbox used (she's fully indoor), so they figure she's doing alright.

One of my past cats actually was growling at a social worker we had in our house. This was when my daughter was only a couple of months old. At the time the social worker was holding my daughter. She was THAT protective of my daughter.. Another cat, this girl from my childhood, saw our neighbors' german shepherd in our yard. Now this was a dog who had sent three folks back then to the hospital. His owners had a sign of "Beware of the Dog" posted by him. But off the chain he was easy to get along with. Well he came into the yard. Was sniffing about when our cat jumped onto his back. He never ever again came into our yard after that.

Wednesday night, here in Humble Texas, I decided to go to a local BBQ place, (Pappas) as I was getting ready to order, I heard a most pitiful meow coming from the bushes behind the store. I tracked a tiny kitten until it ran under a transformer. All grey. Before long some of the staff were outside and I borrowed a flashlight (torch) from the manager. I had to do some digging and I got it. The little stinker bit me three times, but I wasn't going to lose this one. It's over 100 degrees F and it only rained here just now, after a long drought. Now I have a new best friend. From spicy to nicey in about one hour.

Good for you! I have 9 cats, all rescues. The last one I found in the road in front of my house, looked to be maybe 2 months old. Now she is vaccinated, spayed, etc. and as near as I can tell, a princess ruling all my grown boys, on her way to being a cat queen when she finishes growing up.

The cats hunting ability is the reason why my cats are only allowed outside in their run. That way my yard is still full of lizards, birds and wildlife. I figure anything that gets into the run is fair game and probably too stupid to live. They still bring me the occasional lizard but I probably only get one a year, i can remember the last time in fact.

We had a cat (named Ashes) that would attack any dog that came into our front yard. One day I saw a dog walking toward our house (on the sidewalk). As it got to the house nextdoor, it walked down their driveway, into the street and then up our driveway and continued walking on the sidewalk. It was looking around the entire time as if dreading any interaction. I was the craziest thing.

Years àgo, I had a sweet natured ginger tabby named Charlie. One day I came outside to find him with his fur standing on end & his tail puffed up like a bottle brush, at the doorway of our small garden gazebo. Inside, Charlie had bailed up a petrified young blue heeler. I had never seen him behave like that before, but assume he was just protecting his territory.

Unfortunately most Australian cat owners refuse to keep their cats inside or build a cat run because "it's in their nature" to roam. They choose one species over the extinction of hundreds of others. Dogs want to roam too and be with their pack but because humans are victims of attacks rather than animals the law is rightly vigilant in containing them. If only we treasured protection of our unique animals as much. We should have laws which require mandatory cat desexing and containment within a house or cat run. Most cat owners refuse to believe little Fluffy Ears and Miss White Socks is a killer and that between the pincers of climate change and cats, this country will witness the extinction of many species. Dear Cat-owners, in the future when children ask you whether you did anything about species extinction, you can, with hand over heart, honestly reply, "Absolutely nothing. In fact, I encouraged it via my own pet."

The ones who panic always die because they can't make rational decisions to improve their odds or save their lives. Don't believe me ? Go Google "why do people who panic die ?" Panic for cats is simply the flight response. I should have phrased that better and not posted at 3am. EDITED. Only herbivores panic, so never trust a vegetarian in a survival situation 😆

15 years ago I was pulling weeds in my garden and our beautiful tabby attacked the ground next to my hand aggressively, It shocked me as she was usually a lazy sweetheart who wasn’t bothered by much, she’d seen and killed a small tiger snake I thoughtlessly didn’t see. I’ve grown up on farms my whole life and think I have a reasonably balanced point of view when it comes to wildlife and its balance, I hate it that people get cats and dogs in urban environments and lock them up in those environments then make them neurotic. I also think that nothing should be trapped in urban zoo’s, not even humans as dangerous as they are to the other animal populations.

I've owned (?) a couple of cats but grew up with my family's Australian Terriers. While the last cat was a very friendly & docile silver tabby, he always had two bells on his collar because he loved stalking birds in the garden (one bell wasn't enough!). Since then I decided that I preferred dogs, especially as my ex discovered she was allergic to cats anyway,, so we acquired a Pomeranian-Maltese-X (grew to about 6kg). However, after 16yrs of being divorced, & a decade after he died, I now have 5mth old Merle Pomeranian who definitely isn't going to murder the local wildlife!
