The same thing goes for the dogs. The dogs bark, the wolves never. The dogs emit some puppies noises that wolves don't do because its effective to communicate with humans which have a noise-based communication. And the noises of babies are pretty the same among the mammals, and we are receptives to the sound of babies, probably because grow children take so much time for our lifespan.

+Claudia Jean Not really, no. It's more along the lines of that they evolved a "cute noise" that they use during their adolescence to get their mother's attention. They keep that ability into adulthood, and since cute things catch human attention rather easily, they learn to make that cute noise to get our attention when they want things from us. Basically, they treat us like we're their parents because in terms of their ability to understand complex relationships, that's the closest thing that they have to our relationship with them. Noticed that babies are decidedly cute? That's because our brains attach us to them (making us think more positively of them, thus making us more likely to keep them safe) by making qualities common to infants and small children stand out in a way that we've dubbed being "cute." Cats imitate this to the best of their ability because it makes us more likely to give them things like food and companionship, both things that make living longer more likely.

We had a kid at out secondary school who would do a meow so good that he was known as the cat kid. It was my second day of year 9 and everyone was talking about him. He'd always be walking on his own or meowing to year 11s. I left school 3 years later and I only ever heard him meow I never heard him spoke. It was a really good impression of a cat, can't lie. I wonder what he's doing amidst the corona virus lockdown

I'll give you another one. I go to a trade college and I seen him on the last lesson of our first day back after summer and he walked into our 2nd year college class. Now this was a second year class and it was the kids first day. We was all working in our note books 30mins into the lesson and he walked in. This is more common in college as your rooms change all the time. Anyways he walked into the wrong class, it happens and you just laugh it off and say wrong room buddy but he just kept his head down sat at the nearest seat and started taking his books out. Now on the first day you learn what group your in and your told you'll be together except maybe for English and Maths (if you failed them). So after giggling when he walked in we were confused after a few seconds and were like "hey buddy I don't think your supposed to be here what room are you supposed to be in" he just ignored us and finished taking his books out then looked up at us and told us he wasn't. now I was abit stoned (you know how college is) so I just start laughing and everyone is just giving each other "what the fuck??" looks. I'm looking at him and I'm sure I recognise him but cant put my finger on where from. Our college tutor is more sympathetic them some of us and really tries and give him a helping hand and take him to exactly where he needs to go. Our tutor escorts him there then comes back. We crack on. Ten minutes later hes back. Somehow our tutor took him to the wrong room. But he's sure he's meant to be in our room We send him away to the teachers lounge to ask for any of the teachers he's had that morning. He comes back and just waits at the door looking in like he wants to come in then looking away when people look at him. We tell him to come in sit down and pull out his timetable your given on the first day We quickly find out he is in the right room weird huh? He was meant to be in the room 2 hours ago for his last lesson. I didnt think it was possible. Not a single person on earth could behave more baked and burnt out then this kid but he really doesn't Blaze if you seen him from afar you'd attribute him to be a book worm. I don't know to this day how the hell he fucked up as profoundly as he did. Hes not got a bad bone in his body I really wish him the best he's going to need it. He doesn't meow any more he doesn't purr. I don't know if he's been weened off or something but the cat noises are no more. No more misto kitty, no more universal adoration from everyone over his super realistic cat noises just a simple mortal like us all. I thought one day he mightve profited off of his ability. In the mean time it looks like his little kitten hands are going to be worked to the claw because it's plastering for that mon That's all folks

Meanwhile my cat doesn’t miaow, it always looks like he’s about to miaow but there is no sound
The answer you're looking for is: it's a kitten vocalization that gets humans attention.
I had a cat that was not vocal at all. Then a second cat came into the home that was really vocal. My first cat saw that this meow got things like food or an open door, he started getting vocal. They do observe, learn and change behaviours. Clever kitties!
@yeahokaycoolcool
6 жыл бұрын
That's basically the same with my cats. I got my black cat when she was newborn and she stopped being vocal after a few months of age. She mainly communicates though biting and body language, oddly enough. When we got our kitten back in May, we found that he's insanely vocal. She's started chirruping more often and has since become more playful and more relaxed. I still wish I could get a few meows out of her more often (she has such a soft, lovely meow when it happens), but I doubt it will ever occur. Interesting how a cat with a different personality can shape another's!

Later in my cat's life, she started holding prolonged conversations with me. Several meows of different tones strung together without pausing. Then she'd stop, I'd answer with something arbitrary like "is that right?" And she'd continue. Between that and learning to stick her tongue out at people in a very ornery human-like manner, she was incredibly bizarre and scarily smart.

LOL I was looking for this comment 😂😁 good job! I didn't see anyone else comment on that part! Maybe they didn't notice?!
I used to joke that my aunt's cat Garfield had a "broken squeaker" because his meows were high-pitched and stopped in the middle. Like MIH-OW, lol.
I've read elsewhere that scientists propose housecats as living in an "extended kittenhood" where they retain many kitten behaviors (like meowing and being useless) because they trust they are provided for. It's pretty amazing that there are still so many mysteries surrounding the behavior of cats, given how intertwined they are with human culture globally. I bet there are similar mysteries about dogs and other domesticated animals.

UTAU53Yui I agree, it is pretty amazing how we don’t fully understand cat/dog behavior and language, yet they’ve been alongside us for thousands of years. All animals are pretty unique in the sense that they are all living organisms like us, yet we don’t truly understand what makes them “tick”.

My cat thinks hes human lol
My cat rarely makes a noise, and finally I think I've discovered why from this video. When she was a kitten she was thrown out, and approached my friend for help (a year later he found out that it was his neighbours who had abandoned her in snowy weather). I agreed to take her into my home, but did not expect her to survive as she was starved and traumatised, her behaviour suggesting that she had been physically abused. I now suppose that she did not learn a positive connection between making noise and getting attention, either nothing happened, or she was beaten. For weeks she did not need to make noises to attract me, I was fully attentive as she was in such a bad state. Now, as I'm retired, we spend a lot of time together, and she is rarely more than a few metres away (due to the state she was in when she came to me, she has become a house cat, and rarely shows any interest in outside, unless I am there). Consequently, she usually uses physical methods of telling me she is there, nudging, head butting and patting me with her paw is enough for me to react. She also knocks on the window if I'm outside. I think that in the 15 months I've had her, she has meowed less than ten times, chittered 3 or 4 times in my presence, and purred hardly ever. The only time that she was vocal was before she was spayed, so I know she can make noise. I'm so glad to have seen this video, I'm not so worried about her lack of noise.

@PLuMUK54
5 жыл бұрын
@@cultofgunter881 When I first took Katy into my house she was frightened of women, and would try to attack them if they approached her. My friend who found Katy has since discovered that the woman, who appears to have been the person who abandoned her, has a reputation for treating her children, and other pets that she has had, badly. For a long time she was frightened if I walked close to her in shoes. She would try to hide. Yet if I was barefoot she did not react. At first, I thought she was just a cat that was nervous when I moved too quickly, but it became obvious that it was more. I discussed it with the vet, who said that there was evidence she had been injured more than once in the previous couple of months, and that it was due to being hit, being kicked, or possibly having been thrown against something.

Cats are such beautiful complex and loving little critters.
@marcusmilton1
6 жыл бұрын
I think they are beautiful, complex, intelligent and awesome creatures. But not very loving. They don't make good pets, coz they aren't pack animals. They are solo, and don't belong in a family. Raising then as part of family puts them in an awkward position as they instinctively don't really care for others, but having human companionship gets them free food and shelter..
@thegatesofsleep
5 жыл бұрын
Marquiz Milton that’s simply not true. Cats can be very loving and affectionate. There’s a vast amount of studies suggesting felines are a bonding animal.
@marcusmilton1
5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm.. maybe. I am not saying that cats are incapable of bonding. I've raised a couple of cats myself and they were quite affectionate too. i was just saying that they don't bond the way dogs or goats or other pack animals do. it is best to keep an animal that lives in a pack as a pet because their brain is wired to respond to a family hierarchy.
