    I always like watching your videos and compare the info with my experiences. Pretty much spot on how cats behave. I caught a feral 15 years ago, vet said she was 2 at the time. I named her Bebe. She had 5 kittens. Her kittens adapted well at a no-kill shelter for adoption. Bebe, I kept and nursed her back to health after an ordeal at that shelter. She got sick in there so I adopted her out. Long story short, she's 17 now. She still has that raw feral thing in her, but at the end of the day she jumps on the bed, rolls over and wants her tummy rub. I love her dearly and she's had the best life a cat could ever want. She's healthy and still gets out in the morning, roams her territory and exercises before her nap time. It's been a great joy having her in my life.

    I just got my first cat. She's a young mom who just weaned her babies. She was an owner surrender. She walks up to me and rubs on my hand. When I start to pet her she starts swishing her tail from side to side. When I see this, I stop petting her. She has shown she likes me. She is comfortable, confident, social and playful. I play with her several times a day. I'm not sure if I'm reading her tail correctly.

    This video helped restore my self confidence a little. I grew up with cats including some pretty tough rescues but it had been a few years. Naturally I had a little self doubt when I got a cat today, my first since I left home. He was a little shy at first but he showed literally every sign of being happy in his video all on the first day. From all my experience and from what this channel has taught me, he's adjusting to his new home really well.

    It was great to hear more about the “shaky tail”. That’s the tail that stands straight up and shakes or trembles rapidly. When I was taming my feral cat I felt that it was her way of telling me how beyond happy she was to see me and be with me. This was a solitary feral cat I started feeding and when she had kittens my neighbor and I teamed up and we trapped both mom and dad and kittens and had them neutered. She was a very wary feral. We even had to put up a blind to get near her. After the kittens were gone I continued to feed her and she would watch me walk from the garage door to the enclosed shed where I had her food and water. One day she followed me and circled my legs and brushed against me. Ohmygosh, did that really happen?! From that point on she would come closer and closer to where I filled her food dish and after months of this I could brush against her and finally I could touch her. This took months and months! Once she figured out how wonderful being petted was, it went faster. Eventually I could pet her all over without her swatting at me and running away. That’s when the vibrating tail started. I’m happy to know that doesn’t mean spraying behavior. Now, three years later, we are best friends and I don’t see her shaky tail as often, and I miss it. I guess I’m too familiar now and the “sexiness” of a new relationship has worn off a bit.

    What are my 5-month-old kittens telling me when they lay on their backs purring in the middle of my bed when I'm trying to go to sleep? Wait, I already know. They're saying "Pet my tummy! Pet my tummy! Feed me! I love you! Pet my tummy! Feed me! I love you! Pet my tummy!" I used voice activation to write the above paragraph. The kittens heard me using kitten voice and they both ran into the room to see what was going on. We adopted these two from a local shelter. Anyone living in Washington State, I highly recommend Meow Cat Rescue shelter in Kirkland. They carefully vet people adopting and with kittens they adopt them out in bonded pairs so the kittens won't be alone. It took us almost 6 months from the death of our 18-year-old cat before we were ready to adopt again. While it's better to have two kittens when you adopt don't believe them when they say two aren't more work than one. They're definitely more work but absolutely worth it. I suspect that this video is more geared towards people who don't have cats or are new to cats. People who have had cats for a while should already know how to interpret their body language. Generally the cats make it very clear. If you are thinking of adopting a cat or kittens, please go to a shelter and adopt there instead of buying a pure breed. There are so many wonderful cats in need of a home. Support your local no-kill shelter. If you have extra pet supplies consider donating them. We bought a couple of flats of Instinct chicken pate, they decided that they didn't like it anymore so we donated it. I was impressed by Chewy's customer service. I contacted them to find out if there was any way to exchange it and they refunded the price without the need for a return allowing us to donate the food.

    Hey, that's a good question. There are a few common reasons why cats will meow all the time like that: 1. They're hungry 2. They're bored 3. They're sick 4. They're in pain 5. They want to go outside 6. They're trying to attract a mate 7. They're getting old and have dementia/confusion 8. They're lonely 9. They're grieving 10. They just like talking to you (some breeds are a lot chattier than others)

    I must have a couple of weirdos then because I associate their tails totally opposite. I'm new to cats so I've been watching a lot of these videos to try and sort out their behavior. Frost (rescued last Feb.) still sprays in the house despite being neutered (not a medical issue - there are other cats outside so I figure he's insecure about his space), but he still walks around with his tail held high. So my brain went; ok tail up all the time = not totally relaxed. Meanwhile, Ivy (decided he wanted to live in my house in September) just strolls around with his tail just la-dee-dahing behind him so I thought, ok tail lower = chill and cruisin'. But I've since looked stuff up and that's not the norm. So I don't know. Just trying to figure these two spazzes out so I can make sure they're happy. (for the record, Frost was spraying before Ivy ever showed up. He and Ivy get along, so I don't think Ivy's the issue as to why he continues to randomly spray)

    Cats are also individuals. For example, MOST of the time, our ginger wanders around with his tail up in happy confident mode. Sometimes though he just ambles around with it halfway lightly swishing. His tail also gets puffy when he is wanting to fight something as often as scared.

    Good evening Mallory and furwends! I found out today that Costco now carries a variety box of Pate style adult cat food. I was super excited and immediately brought it home to the masters of the house. They come in these easy to open 3.5 oz packages, chicken, turkey and salmon. My cats that prefer a wet food diet ate it alllll up with no hesitation whatsoever. Do you think that in the near future you'd be able to do a review on this? I'd really like to learn more about the nutritional aspect of it before I make this a consistent purchase. The cover of box it came in mentions: Grain Free recipe, no wheat, soy or corn. No artificial flavors or preservatives. If there's any way that I can help at all, please let me know!

  • @AllAboutCatsYT

    @AllAboutCatsYT

    Жыл бұрын

    That's a really, really good question, Alexis. I do wonder if perhaps your lower-tailed cat truly isn't quite as happy as the other one. Being a chunkier fur baby comes with a lot of problems and may well be making her less happy. She may just not be quite as excitable as your other cat, though, since a neutral tail position is calm, while the upright position is a more enthusiastic positive gesture. I would be very curious, though, to see what would change if she lost weight. Anyway, it doesn't sound like anything is wrong, and you're certainly not alone in this! I've read about other cats who just don't raise their tails, and it seems to be a normal phenomenon.

  • @AllAboutCatsYT

    @AllAboutCatsYT

    Жыл бұрын

    No one (besides your cat) can say exactly why, but this is a behavior that is usually thought to mean that your cat wants to play with you, wants to leave a reminder of her presence, or is simply hiding her "prey" for later. And in the case of dunking toys in the water bowl, some think this is an instinctive "drowning" behavior.

  • @AllAboutCatsYT

    @AllAboutCatsYT

    Жыл бұрын

    It's okay-many cats have lived long, healthy lives on a dry-only diet. However, it's not ideal due to the low moisture content of dry food. Studies have been done that show that even considering the extra water dry-fed cats drink, they still don't get as much water as do cats who eat wet food. That means that they're at an increased risk of developing urinary tract issues and, potentially, other issues. Furthermore, dry food tends to contain more plant content and be higher in carbohydrates, which may not be ideal for your cat's health. Still, a daily diet of dry food should be fine in most cases, especially if you're including some wet food as well.
