    loved those Kwakasaki's.... uncle had a BMW R100 which i thought had a horrible riding position.... later that uncle had a Suzi GS1000 and got his nose right out of joint when i rode up his driveway on a Kwaka Z750Turbo which was awesome for open hwys.... was the best thing for bikes when the govt brought in the 250cc limit for L and P plate riders. increased sales and development as well as protected many from harming themselves... riding the Great Ocean Road back then in the 70's and 80's was amazing with so many different types of bikes all out for a weekend ride.

    Sweet--- these ARE the good old days... loved the 6 hour.... I rode my brand new Honda CB750 down from Wauchope to Amaroo in '72... I really miss these times of my life... awesome racing... great bikes...great mates....

    Agree with that In the early 80's our club (St George)meetings would fill the Sharks Club auditorium every month. People picking up trophies, pennants, submitting entries, and socializing etc Late 80's they had a series of rule changes That started another problem with people wanting to mail it all in + bank transfers nobody turned up at meetings. Trophies went unclaimed 90's our club went down to a small room with

    It takes young enthusiasts with a real love of racing to change things. It starts and finishes with MA. If we all sit back and d o nothing , we will never recover our love.

    A Suzuki mechanic told me that Hazell and Moore distributors were awesome. The next mob, not so. The almighty dollar, I guess.

    Road racing has really gone backwards since the mid 80s. It has got to do with MotoGP and young guys with no sense of fun, who don't want to get involved in running meetings.

    Where were the Kawasaki H2 750 triple 2 strokes - didn't they use them?

    drags yes.... 6hr no.... reliability, handling, brakes, fuel efficiency, narrow power band, lower top speed, all not great for long distance racing... back then they were called widow makers and tank slappers for good reason.... my mate used to drag the 500 and 750 triples at Heathcote.

    @@Bobby-fj8mk 1972 standing start yes, but the triples were twitchy. risky to put the power on hard coming onto the straight. H2 were prone to mono, weak forks/shocks, frame flex, only geared for about 190kph... the 6hr was scrutinised production racing so no mods... people were in awe of the H2 power, listed 75hp, but todays rockets are outrageously quick with double the hp or more... i think my arms are 2 inches longer because of that.

    @@AVportau - thanks - I know a bit too - there were a number of faults in the H2 750. If you remove the tank and look at where the frame joins to the front fork yoke assembly part of the frame - it is different to the H1 500 and is weaker and inferior. That caused the frame to bend when cornering. The front yoke and swing arm bushings were made of nylon when they should have been phosphor bronze. The H2 750 frame wasn't up to the standard required for high speed cornering. Double front discs were available but not standard so the single disc used to cook in races. I saw them turn cherry red at one race. The middle cylinder head barrels had less air cooling fins than the left and right barrels. That meant the middle cylinder could cook during racing. The H2R 750 used 3 middle barrels to keep the cooling even - it also had a totally different much better frame. Yes - the rear shock absorbers were poor quality - most people replaced them with Koni shockers. So - with some modifications the H2 750 would have been a race winner - but as you say - mods were not allowed - even small mods. A mild port job and chambers would increase the power to well over 100hp - easily beating the bikes of that time but of course that wasn't allowed. The fact is there were many modified H2 750s on the road that were rocket ships and would have beaten those bikes in the Castrol 6 hour race.
