Casting The Camp Crystal Lake Sign From "Friday The 13th" - Metal Casting At Home

In this video I will be casting the Camp Crystal Lake sign from the horror franchise "Friday The 13th". I started by modeling up the sign and printing it on my 3D printer. This was fairly large so I used my Elegoo Neptune 3 Max. I then primed and painted the sign to help remove some of the print lines. I made a mold of the it in petrobond sand and melted down some scrap aluminum ingots. I then poured the molten metal into the mold. I finished cleaning it up using my sand blaster to give it a flat matte look. As a huge horror fan and having printed a full size Jason Vorhees, I felt I needed the Camp Crystal Lake sign to go with him. instead of painting, hit the lettering with a torch to get it nice and hot, then go over it with a brass brush. the brass will give a gold look to the raised letters.

I love the way it looks , no paint needed. I work in Blairstown NJ where a lot of the movie was filmed. The original diner in the movie is still in operation today.

If you feel like it needs something a patina might look good? Like a darkness around the corners maybe? As far as Halloween ideas. Hellraiser cube, a ghost from pacman, a Jason X mask, Nordic gold freddy blades and glove, lol a Big ole candy corn haha. Plenty of content 😅

Nice job. Was concerned without the pouring basin. Going back to look at spin trap and tapered sprue, looked backwards. Any signs of by-metalic formation across the face? Flow rate was low based on rough est. dimensions. But calculations are not needed if results prove good. And still torching cast iron with propane, in LV, but good results can't be argued with. A useful project.

I did kinda do it backwards and with the spin trap and runner I have I felt was a little to small so I improvised. I more or less just used it as a guide. 🤷🏻♂️

The sign looks just fine as it is... no need to paint. It looks plenty "authentic"
what about making a caulron? seen someone doing a craft with a big one and make me wonder if it could be cast 🔥

I don’t know about painting it? I enjoy the resident evil franchise. Be safe in that Vegas heat.
If you're serious about using it as a Halloween decoration, then yeah, paint it. Otherwise it's hard to read. If it's just a Halloween MOVIE decoration inside the house, then fine as is. But for the Halloween HOLIDAY ? esp for outside decor, Then details do not stand out as is, painting would help... esp if there's florescent or glow in the dark paint.
