Casting a Bronze Megalodon Tooth │Shark tooth fossil

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I cast a 6" bronze Megalodon tooth in my backyard foundry. I used bronze consisting of 90% copper and 10% tin to create this tooth. It weighs 2 lbs 10 oz.
Megalodon is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, during the Early Miocene to the Pliocene.

The area that you ground, you could have taken a tig welder held it away about 1 inch, let the arc pit the ground areas. I did that process on a broken ant colony aluminum cast to hide that it was welded and ground to shape. They couldn't find where it was welded. Anyway just a thought.

I just cast a few Mega teeth, I 3D printed the teeth I used as patterns. I did 2 in copper and 2 in Nordic Gold, they turned out really well. They were maybe, a 1/4 of the size of the one you used, and I had done one about 2x bigger than the others I had done. I am working on a big one now, hope it looks good as the one you did.

That looks very good!! Great work! One thing though, I recently made some bronze using 12% tin and it came out way more orange, yours seems very yellow, maybe some of the wires you put in were aluminium? Or I might have done something different, I'm curious to find out. Anyway, very cool project, I might borrow this Idea and cast a Megalodon tooth for a friend that is crazy about sharks. 👍👊

  • @robinson-foundry

Thanks Ralph, I wonder if the reason my bronze looks so yellow is because it was never given a chance to oxidize? It could also just be how my camera is interpreting color.

Hey! One thing here... it looked like you reysed some old, black petrobond. I would highly recommend not doing that as the oil (and probably other ingredients) is already burnt up, and it would need some work to rejuvenate it (called mauling or something, cant remember the word). If you keep mixing it in, eventually all of your petrobond will be useless, even though you still have quite a bit, it'll be ineffective. Other than that, your whole casting process is phenomenal, I appreciate the attention to detail and that you obviously have done your research to do everything the best way possible.
