Casting a Bronze Megalodon Tooth │Shark tooth fossil
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I cast a 6" bronze Megalodon tooth in my backyard foundry. I used bronze consisting of 90% copper and 10% tin to create this tooth. It weighs 2 lbs 10 oz.
Megalodon is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, during the Early Miocene to the Pliocene.

The tooth turned out perfect, the finishing touches made it look almost real.
Love the use of the patina on only the root of the tooth, such an awesome idea to apply to other stuff.
Great job! I'm just imagining - a megalodon with a gold tooth ... lol
I had a replica growing up that looks identical to that one! I would use it to open boxes.

The area that you ground, you could have taken a tig welder held it away about 1 inch, let the arc pit the ground areas. I did that process on a broken ant colony aluminum cast to hide that it was welded and ground to shape. They couldn't find where it was welded. Anyway just a thought.
This is so cool and well made. Thank you for sharing!!
Imagine replacing real MD teeth with a full set of these.

Thanks! I appreciate that!
You could become a shark dentist! Well done, very cool as always.
I really dig the music choice in this video
Great finish
I just cast a few Mega teeth, I 3D printed the teeth I used as patterns. I did 2 in copper and 2 in Nordic Gold, they turned out really well. They were maybe, a 1/4 of the size of the one you used, and I had done one about 2x bigger than the others I had done. I am working on a big one now, hope it looks good as the one you did.
Amazing contrast between the polished and patina area.

Can't wait to cast my first one!
How can this guy have nearly 300,000 subs but only 20% have watched this excellent vid?
VERY NICE!!
Bellissimo, mi piacerebbe averne uno..
Awesome!
Hi S, Your skills are amazing I'm enjoying your works thank you for your videos etc etc
That looks very good!! Great work! One thing though, I recently made some bronze using 12% tin and it came out way more orange, yours seems very yellow, maybe some of the wires you put in were aluminium? Or I might have done something different, I'm curious to find out. Anyway, very cool project, I might borrow this Idea and cast a Megalodon tooth for a friend that is crazy about sharks. 👍👊

Thanks Ralph, I wonder if the reason my bronze looks so yellow is because it was never given a chance to oxidize? It could also just be how my camera is interpreting color.
Masterpiece 👌

Absolutely nerve-racking ordeal. So much can go wrong at any stage. It's like walking on eggshells the whole time.
Great content, as usual :) Why did you sparkle black sand over the tooth printed part? Is this sand mixed with characaol dust?
@robinson-foundry
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It was a slightly finer grain petrobond that I used as facing sand. Thanks for watching!
I like how the silver ones retained more of the serrated edge, being that you have two silver teeth did you think about tarnishing the root section of one of the silver teeth?
Wondering what the darker sand was... previously used Petrobond?
@robinson-foundry
3 жыл бұрын
Yes it was just a slightly finer but very used petrobond.
What’s the point of doing the bottom part of the mold twice?
Well darn it. now I want to make my own foundry, get a megalodon tooth and copy your work here. Hotdamn, that looks good! Next up, Do quartz/Flourite/other crystal out of Bronze?

Yess, a bronze copy of a cubic fluorite cluster
Do you save the dust from your projects? I seen others do and then they melt it to make other stuff.
I want one , seriously
I’d definitely want to turn one of those into a primitive axe... like something from Turok

Creative mindset.
Love that fleshy, peachy color it came out as, I wish silver oxide was harder and could easily retain that color
This guy sounds like Sciencephile the AI
Two questions? How much and would you ship to the UK?
This is probably a stupid question, but why do you only use the metal file in one direction and not back and forth like sandpaper?
I'm trying to imagine some creature with golden bronze teeth like this and it makes me think of Manticore's in DND where they can build up mineral composition on their teeth and spikes, making them a dangerous but extremely valuable source of pure metal.
Hello! You can tell the ratio of the earth. Thank you
i didn't know that megladons had golden teeth replacements.
what's the clear you use?
Robinson Foundry I can see that this job is going to take a very long time to complete; so far you have only made one tooth, but when are you going to finish the whole Megalodon?
is it weird that i want to make an axe out of that? also 45-90 brass casing?
sir i neeed polish and buffing
big qeust:is that a reak tooth?
It's weird to think that the original tooth of that size probably bit into something as large as a whale.
Hey! One thing here... it looked like you reysed some old, black petrobond. I would highly recommend not doing that as the oil (and probably other ingredients) is already burnt up, and it would need some work to rejuvenate it (called mauling or something, cant remember the word). If you keep mixing it in, eventually all of your petrobond will be useless, even though you still have quite a bit, it'll be ineffective. Other than that, your whole casting process is phenomenal, I appreciate the attention to detail and that you obviously have done your research to do everything the best way possible.
Whats the finisher
