Casio MT-600 - Spectrum Dynamic synth disguised as a preset Casiotone

Casio Casiotone MT-600 keyboard (1987)
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the MT-600 and recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, and reverb were added as required. I also double-tracked a couple of synth parts (tuned fractionally differently each time) to give them a fatter sound. Individual drum hits were sampled from slowed-down rhythms and processed to allow fresh beats to be built, rather than using the rhythms found on the MT-600 itself.
The aim of these videos is to see what you can create using sounds from ageing home keyboards together with current production tools. The MT-600 was a preset version of the HT-700 and has the same factory sounds, but without the opportunity to modify any of them. It's a digital synth that uses Casio's "Spectrum Dynamic" synthesis method, but it also has a resonant analogue filter and stereo chorus, which on the HT-700 can be modified and even tweaked in real-time (although not in the most user-friendly way).

The Casio's sounds are incredible with reverb.

Just a little bit of polish is all you need...
That was way more enjoyable than I ever expected. What a gem!

Thanks :) It seems to be a fairly under-the-radar keyboard, but has some nice presets.
This defines neon roads and synthwave vibes. Really good stuff. Very talented.

Excellent demonstration and playing. You've taken the MT600 beyond what I ever imagined it could do.

I was gonna say I own one, but never seen one in that good a shape before!
I think about getting one, would be a nice little Addition to my 80s synth collection (Yamaha DX11, Alpha Juno and tr-505)
Muito bom!!! Awesome!!!

This is awesome! Found a MT-600 for $5 at a flea market. It's in perfect condition. I assume you're using a 3.5mm to 1/4" cable into your DAW?

Yes, stereo into the keyboard and left/right jacks at the other end. That's a nice find - hope you enjoy using it! :)
i have this exact keyboard, what kind of cable did you use to record the audio into your DAW?
@alfonsemusic

A stereo cable from the headphone output, split to left and right on the other end

@@alfonsemusic thanks!
People compare these to the Korg Poly 800, but honestly, this is making more of an impression on me. Does it really have an arpeggiator??
@alfonsemusic
Жыл бұрын
It has some nice sounds in it, but look for the HT700 if you want to make patches of your own (this is the preset-only version). Sadly there's no arpeggiator, but it has midi, so the arpeggiated patterns you hear in this were sent to it from my audio interface.
The mt-400 looks like a tryhard kids piano that wants to be a professional synthesizer which is common in casio’s lineup. Yet great job on this

Thanks. It's in a weird middle ground, but one of those cases where if you find it for a reasonable price then it's well worth a play.
Sounds like Van Halen.
