In this video, Berklee Online instructor Erin Barra explains the synthesizer basics on amplitude, filters, envelopes, oscillators, frequency, timbre, LFO, and modulation. She goes into detail about how amplitude works, how an envelope shapes the evolution of a sound, how oscillators work in synthesizers, and how frequency is really just the number of times a waveform repeats each second and is measured.

I've seen various videos on sound design and synth fundamentals but this explained it so well that I actually understood these things for the first time. Every example, simile, metaphor, and analogy was ON POINT and helped me grasp the concepts better. Thank you so much!

Your a genius, this is a great presentation. It quite literally explained everything I need to understand how a basic sound system works. I'm working on a project right now in the Unreal Engine that requires me to generate my own sounds and I haven't explored those systems yet so this really helped me a ton.

Great explanation on synthesis , complex ideas with analogies! My major at Berklee was music synthesis so it’s also very satisfying that Berklee has a great educator explaining these ideas online and free to start. You want to go in deeper than take their online courses!
