Casio HT-700 Spectrum Dynamic mini synth

Музыка

The HT-700 (1987) is from the digital-analogue hybrid "Spectrum Dynamic" synthesis family of Casio keyboards. It's a mini-key variant of its larger siblings the HT-3000 and HT-6000, and a slightly more sophisticated, editable version of the Casiotone MT-600, with the same basic presets. It has a DCO-VCF-DCA synthesis structure, but using initial waveforms that vary over time, with a resonant analogue filter and a stereo chorus effect with three modes. Parameters can all be edited, with control of ADSR envelopes, and one parameter can be tweaked in real-time using the data wheel.
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the HT-700 and recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, and reverb were added as required. Individual drum hits were sampled from the rhythm pattern editor mode and sequenced in the DAW; the sequences were based on the 16Beat1 and Disco1 patterns on the HT-700, but allowed panning and processing of the lo-fi PCM samples.

    Most people might know it, or have seen it as the Hohner ks 49 which was a white version of this keyboard. This black Casio version is not as common. These things are interesting for a mess about but serious or long term they are not..., that badge goes to the Yamaha PSS680 / PSS780. ;-)

  • @alfonsemusic

    @alfonsemusic

    Not as complex as wavetable synthesis, I think. The Wikipedia entry says "modeled on traditional DCO-VCF-DCA analog synthesis but used waveforms that included predefined variations over time. The SD sound source is a 4-bit (16-step) digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) that uses waveforms including triangles, sawtooth, squares of different widths, and some unusual pulses, plus various combinations thereof"

  • @alfonsemusic

    You can program custom 2-bar rhythms in the keyboard and store them in the internal memory or on a ram card. The midi clock can be set to internal or external and the manual shows a routing where you can use patterns programmed on the HT700 to trigger external sounds (synths/drum machine) - I'm fairly sure you can't play the HT700 drum sounds via midi, but I haven't specifically tried.
