Yamaha PSS-380 FM synth (Part 2)

Музыка

There are so many great sounds in the PSS-380 that one video alone was never going to be enough, so here's the second go around - darker yet mellower.
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the PSS-380. All parts were recorded to a DAW, where EQ and reverb were added as required.
Synth settings are editable via the sliders on the top right of the control panel. If you have one of these keyboards and want to recreate the sounds, here are the parameters:
Main synth = 93 1 8 8 3 3 8 8
Drums = 99 2 3 4 1 3 8 5
Other bass = 76 1 5 5 5 5 1 7
Warm pad = 99 + 99
Sweep = 79 1 8 1 3 4 1 8
End sides = 53 5 5 1 1 4 8 5
Attack synth = 74 4 8 8 8 6 5 8
Saw synth = 23 + 23
FM FX = 31 8-4 5 4 3 8 8 8
Arpeggio atmospheric = 72 1 1 8 7 8 8 7
Pluck = 73 1 1 8 7 5 8 7
Lead = 46 3 7 7 4 6 8 8
Thanks to Chris (Wee Muse) for lending me the 380 - his channel is coming soon for repairs, upgrades and more at: / @weeinnovate-uk

    One of those rare tracks that really sounds like it was made in the 80s, sounds like it was made by some 80s guy with his cool new, state of the art synthesizer, working all night, mind unadulterated from the internet, just purely creating.

    Awesome!! Yamaha should have kept the faders on the 380 successors

    Hehehe, this is more like the PSS-380 as *I* know it :) Still only scratching the surface. But as always, you make it sound great AND do create a wonderful track again.

    It would be cool to see you get contracted to do a soundtrack for something. Your songs always kind of make a cool theme and/or atmosphere to me.

    I missed this when you posted it, but it's a lovely track. Reminds me a lot of Art of Noise's song Eye of the Needle, partly because they're both a nice groove and because of the pitch envelope.

    It's interesting that you frequently produce entirely new sounds. It is uncommon....which is meant in a positive way.

  • @alfonsemusic

    Thanks. The more frivolous novelty sounds on this keyboard (ghost, UFO, etc) are often not very musical on their own, but they make for some great sound design possibilities once you start adapting them with the synth sliders.

    Lots of great sounds. But it doesn't really go anywhere, you should think about making the song have a start middle and end that are all distinct. Mostly I'm impressed how much some good eq and reverb improve on the raw sound (I have the 570; without help it sound so much more like a toy)

    man this is one of my new favorites . super raw super clean. how about that bass?? when the snare comes in i could listen to that all day. maybe ive had a couple but it sounds like some stripped back drexciya. keep them coming!

    Nice, love it. ;). Thanks for the synth settings too. Question - Do you play around to find a few patches you like and then write music to fit the sound, or the other way around?

  • @alfonsemusic

    @alfonsemusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    Cheers Chris! :) The parts come from the sounds - I improv a few parts when I hear the sound and whatever fits best stays in the recording. That's why some patches don't make the cut, as I didn't get inspired by them at the time.
