Casio Casiotone MT-400V keyboard (1984)
One of Casio's most unique early experiments in the home keyboard arena, at its heart the MT400V has some fairly standard Casiotone rhythms and voices, but someone had the bright idea of giving the user control over the analogue filter envelope (attack, sustain and decay), cutoff and resonance. As well as applying this to the voices, you can also filter the rhythms and auto accompaniment. There's a stereo chorus with adjustable speed which can be switched to act like an LFO modulating the filter, an effect which Casio quite accurately describes as Waw. Add in bass and chord variations and analogue drums and you've got a great little lo-fi synth and groovebox.
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the MT-400V and recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, and reverb were added as required. Individual kick and snare drum hits were sampled from the rhythms in order to have more control over levels in the mix, and the Disco, 16 Beat and Bossa Nova patterns were then recreated in the DAW.

Thanks. I really like the old-school analogue vibe you can get from what's otherwise a fairly basic keyboard.

The ADSR on that keyboard was a nice feature. It actually modulated the drum section too! Way cool for its era! Awesome tune too! Good work, awesome editing too! The pedal was a nice added touch with the sounds! Great depth and great ambiance too.

Thanks :) It's strange it was such a one-off (aside from it's CT equivalent). Perhaps it's a keyboard only fully appreciated with hindsight.

Thanks. Yes, they're mine. I started this series of videos with the aim of seeing what I could write with just the sounds of one keyboard at a time. It's good to give yourself restrictions sometimes. You can also find the music on Bandcamp, Spotify, etc
Great work, this has to be the most fun MT. I especially like the information text about instruments and effects as the songs play. Having watched the vintage playlist, I am listening to it while I study ;) Can I please ask what software you use to produce your videos and apply text?

Agreed, this MT offers a lot of entertainment. Thanks for watching! I'm using Final Cut Pro on a Mac and currently I do all the titling in that for speed of editing/amending, although you can potentially get slicker results making .png files in Photoshop or similar and using them as a layer over the video in Final Cut.
