It's interesting seeing G-Shock get into the smartwatch market. It's about time. I still think they have a long way to go. I would like to see a solar version to back up the monochrome display. For example, have a monochrome only mode with no heart rate sensor using the solar charging like an old school G-Shock. Also the price is a real killer. $699 is a bit too steep compared to what's offered on the market. My Garmin Instinct Tactical Solar was about $450 and it pretty much does everything this watch does minus the color screen. To be honest, I don't need a full color screen on a watch. I made the mistake of buying the GBDH-1000 last year and my Garmin runs circles around it. Hopefully Casio expands on these consumer prototypes and makes them a little better and cheaper.

People are forgetting that this is an almost indestructible tank watch made for any rough situation, unlike other fragile watches like an apple watch which is more suitable to people who do some jogging and light weight lifting. In fact, I think this watch built quality is so tough that I think it will be the Nokia of Watches in the future.

100%! If this was in the 200-300 range it would be a completely different conversation. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts. I love the G Shock look and I know that there are a ton of hardcore fans out there. BUT a lot of them like the classic style and function (DW 6900 etc). So not sure how a really expensive model like this will go down. For sports this is too big for many plus Garmin is a leader in metrics, especially since its acquisition of First Beat, so the Casio cant compete on that basis.

Thank you very much for that first impression video. I am a big G-Shock Fan and i hope there will come a lot more videos about that first G-Shock-Smartwatch. Thanks also for the comparison with all the other smartwatches. I wear the G-Shock GBD-H1000 since it was released and it‘s an absolutely nice watch, but the Move-App by Casio makes that watch not so smart as it probably could be. I hope that new GSW-H1000 with googles Wear OS will be a lot smarter. The look of the watch in my opinion is very nice and the first impressions does impress me very much. Only the price is a little bit too high i think and the battery life could be a little longer. Absolutely no comparison to the GBD-H1000. Watch looks interesting, but I can't decide what is more overcomplicated and confusing; their watch models or their watch faces ! Maybe I'm just and old guy, simpleton, but the model names as well as the watches themselves seem unnecessarily overconvoluted, and in need of simplification. Great review, only issue for me is the price. It has almost the same features as my gbdh-1000 but that watch cost me half the price of this model. Was really considering it until the price because the touch screen would be so much better than just using the buttons on the gbdh.

I have been using the WSD 20 predecessor to this model. I have no love for Wear OS, it's bloated compared to traditional Pro Treks. But I really like the GPS mapping. Helps me find my way around intersecting trails when hiking. (the phone can do that too, but this is conveniently on your wrist and is far more rugged than a phone) One hint: while it can grab map info from the phone on the fly, if you download the map area into the watch ahead of time, accuracy is improved, pretty much dead on.

Unfortunately those measly solar panels would provide way too little power to make a real difference. On classic simple g shocks sure but this is a mini computer. When it comes to smartwatches, there are many great options like Fitbit, Samsung, Apple, Tic Watch, and Garmin... etc. Unfortunately, Casio couldn't compete with these extremely high prices they are asking for! G shock is successful with +10 years old school models, and they are still selling them very well. But, it is totally a different story with a Smartwatch.

Awesome review. You do a very good watch review. I am a huge Casio fan and collector and the only thing keeping me from getting this watch is the updates. I also have a tech channel and most of my videos are Android related, and what I've found with Wear OS smart watches is updates. They will only be able to update the software for a couple years at best and for the price of this watch, it's just not worth it. Believe me, I would still love to have this watch but for $550.00 used to about $700.00 new, it's just not worth it. Keep up the awesome videos.
