Casio fx-CG500 Linear Transformations and Multiple Representations (Mini-Math Lesson)

This video walks through what the fx-CG500 emulator looks like and different ways to view the emulator. It then demonstrates how to use the graph and dynamic graph functionality to show linear function transformations. There is also a brief how-to do real-world image and line fitting with the picture plot capabilities.

I'm grateful for this service. Sometimes the moves made happen pretty fast and paying attention along to the dialogue along with following where or what to select by keeping tabs of where the cursor is going can be difficult to follow. I guess you cannot go back but it would be nice if the cursor was either highlighted more or made larger so your eyes would not have to zip all around while at the same time trying to pay attention and formulate any questions you might want to ask.

First things first. I get two different if not three different screens when I try using the emulator and I am still depending on luck in trying to bring up the emulator so I can use it. Ideally I had in mind using the handheld calculator to input information and have the steps along with any graph on my computer screen. I wanted to have the graph/computer screen as large as possible. So far I see no steps to do this. You mentioned the right click and I see this but I still have trouble manipulating the screen to a certain size. It seems that I can bring up all sorts of screens with one being the screen divided in three parts (one part darkened and divided with a larger side screen , all of which I cannot operate) and the image of the calculator itself (without being able to enter any input) and a larger screen (white) without being to have a graph on this screen. So this is all confusing.

Hey, I have this calculator and I'm using it for AP Statistics. I need to be able to do Chi-square Tests for homogeneity and independence and I can't figure how to do them. I've looked at the calculator guide and it doesn't seem to explain how to input the table of values? It asks for a matrix, but I'm not sure how to define a matrix (When I try to do 4 x 3 or something, the way you would on a TI, it doesn't work).

You should be able to go into the Statistics Menu and input the table of values into list1, list2, etc. Once you have your lists, you can do your tests by going to the Calc menu up at the top and choosing what you need. I suggest watching the CP400 video on Statistics, since it is basically the same calculator with the exception of the keyboard. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lppmyrOOhrDIfdI.html

Professor, do you have a video that starts from scratch?

The CG500 is the same calculator as the CP400, so the video tutorials for that calculator will help you start from scratch. The only difference is the QWERTY keyboard, which is not allowed in the US, hence the creation of the CG500 for the US market. Here's the link to the CP400 playlist that has tutorials and getting started. kzread.info/head/PLwObzb090vgOuN8dcrZYaaVGH7TLcTYsT Additionally, here is a quick-start guide for the CG500 www.casioeducation.com/resource/manuals/fx-cg500/fx-CG500_QSG.pdf

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to connect the data points with a line on the graph. Is there a way to do that? Also, how can I add points without using the stylus?

Which menu are you in? Picture Plot? You should be able to just use your finger to add points. You can also click the Table Icon at top of the menu and type in specific points.

To connect the points with a regression (this is in picture plot - if you are in a different menu let me know) - there is an icon at the top that shows a graph (next to the table icon) - click that and you will see many options for regressions to fit the data with a line/curve depending on the data.

If you are in Statistics, you add points by adding to the lists - these can be entered with the keypad. You want to graph your points (scatter plot?) by choosing the bar graph icon and then selecting the type of plot and the lists. To connect the points with a line Go up to Calc and choose regression and then choose the one that fits your data best.

Is there a way to get the Casio fx-CG500 to show the steps to get the results?

Not exactly sure what you are asking here? The calculator is only going to show what you enter and/or the results. If you want the step-by-step process, you can use emulator software and use the Editor, where you can then show the steps that are being entered.
