Very nice explanation! Just one question, if on the settle date the dividend is not received by custody what will be our actionable? Shall we reverse the dividend payment entry on the settle date?

Thank you. If on the pay date custody did not received the dividend, FA will still show the payment and hold a cash & income break with custody till the dividend is paid out. In case there is any information that dividend will be not paid or cancelled then FA will be delete the payment.

Just a question that are we reconciling with broker or Custody ? Because like you said div should come to custody for div break and for stock break you said custody should receive those share even though broker is not showing those shares now.

In Fund accounting we do reconciliation with custody. For trades the shares will be delivered from the broker to custody. So we are directly reconciling with custody. There will be broker reconciliation for future trades.

For reconciliation there are two part- Custody and Fund accounting. When the cash/stock/income amount is not in line between FA and Custody the difference of the amount is known as break. FA need to check why its not in line.

Breaks will be between Custody and FA. in FA books we will be posting journal entries like trades and dividend and INT, expense etc.

The reason for break for this scenario can be on the settlement date trade is not settled on custody. Possibly broker was not able to deliver the shares. Hope that answer your question. Keep watching.

Fund’s base currency is on which fund NAV is published. Local currency is the other portfolios of different currency which the fund holds. This concept will be applicable for International funds.

@@vaibhavmule1522 reconciliation depends, sometime it's done on same day. But mostly it will be activity on next day. And trade can happen everyday. So the cash break will come after trade is settled.

Yes, break means when the cash is not matching in both the books. FA has some value and Custody has other value or no value or vice versa.
