I can get you the Lenovo DMI tool just let me know if thats something you want / need. It's a bootable USB you can change the serial and model and generate a new UUID for the board.

Oh and be carefull because when updating them if it does use windows update driver files they sometimes break more than fix at least my experience lol

I did over 100 of these for a friend of mine who was in the same predicament. Bought it from an auction, was gonna throw them out. I love my little programmer. Took me about 10 days to get them done. This is fasted way, but I did take the board out and put it in a clamp.

For anyone trying to reboot a Windows PC that just ignores your button presses and boots super fast to Windows. Hold down the shift key while pressing shut down, this will make it shut down completely and not so fast boot when you turn it on.

You should buy a few 1.8v adapters for the programmer. Replace the V Rev on a couple to 3.6v then you are covered for all bios ic's. I learnt the hard way after burning a few out with 5V

Good stuff. Always strikes me as crazy how much physical space in machines these days is given over to battery or losing heat compared to actual processing etc.

kind of same thing with Windows 11 TPMS, you got to remove the hard drive, completely wipe it on a different pc, delete all partitions, then re-install it to the problem computer, otherwise you will get the bios screen, then completely black screen when it tries booting from usb drive to re-install windows.

As mentioned in another comment, this is Microsoft Autopilot. The hardware hash (at least the serial number) has been uploaded to Microsoft and is registered, so when the laptop boots after a fresh install, it talks to Microsoft and tries to enrol with that company and set itself up. As you've found, changing the serial number defeats it :)

There's so many of these laptops on ebay. I have 2 myself, and they're worth every penny. I've had to do loads of those HP's from school, but they're easy you just remove the battery and pop it back in. On next boot you can install.

Youre probably cloning the same serial number to each of these machines same as when you change the ps5 disk edition bios to a digital edition. What you could do is search for the serial number in hex find the first location in the data, note it down and go into the clean bios. Go to the same location see if it has a similar string of character to denote the serial number field. Record the serial number thats in the clean bios then find and replace with the original serial number. It would make for a clean conversion. I used to edit or straight up diasble wifi card white list in bios's for hp dv series laptops and used this strategy.

The serial number is one of the things that needs to be changed. With a different serial number the calculated hardware hash that identifies it as being MDM managed will no longer match, so MDM isn't triggered. If you put the same values back, the hash will match again and trigger MDM during installation.

the serial number is on the board, lenovo has a tool to easily change it but it's only given to repair centers.

@@sporknife123 where on the board would it be if not in the bios? If it is on the board and not stored in the bios then I guess he doesnt have to worry about having multiple tablets with the same serial numbers.

This is Intune .. Normally they are enrolled in the with the serial number if you can find out who manages the tenant you can request the machine is removed or decommissioned ..

I highly recommend using a dediprog with a pomona soic8 clip to read and flash the bios in the future, saves you the trouble of the removing the chip 😄

There is a simpler solution. They make "clips" that look like alligator clips with 8 pins coming off that would let you very quickly program this chip without even removing or soldering anything, I use them a lot to speed up bulk programming.

What happens if you just use the built-in OEM recovery partition to put the computer back to the way it came from the factory rather than reinstalling fresh from USB? Obviously the benefit would be it would keep all the factory software and drivers and keep the recovery partition.

Iv installed windows in a few company machines which were heavily restricted you couldn't even download a file without being the administrator . But all the machines I did were the hp elite pc but I just booted into the BIOS and made sure boot with usb was enabled then repair pc and wiped every partition on the drive so only the actual drive was there the installed fresh windows 10 from usb and I still have that pc at the minute which iv had 3 years now dose the job. But don't know about a windows tablet thought it would be the same

just curious , if i forgot my bit locker key , can i reflash the bios and get the hardware working again ?

I haven't tried Windows 11 mate because it sucks. I just leave 10 on it and it's up to the next owner to install 11 if they prefer lol

Not everyone sells stuff for a habit though bud. I've sold stuff to cash gen before and I don't drink and don't take any drugs at all (apart from cigarettes and coffee lol). Same as my brother in law, well, he smokes cannabis recreationally and drinks a bit but he has a good job and gets paid well 😉 and yeah, I was having Internet issues lol
