Carson Teva is holding the whole damn REPUBLIC together

Ойын-сауық

Captain Carson Teva is one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing New Republic Defense Fleet. We take a look at the man, the legend and why he's so capable. Perhaps the NRDF can learn from him.

Teva feels like the kind of old military guys who are quietly retired by politicians for causing too many problems for them. Of course by "problems" I mean focusing on morality and fairness over rules and regulations.

Throughout the beginning missions of Roque Squadron's formation, the two of them more or less shared command, depending on the mission, but Luke was over all considered the de facto leader as it was he that not only saved Princess Leia and recovered the plans for the Death Star, but of course he dealt the killing blow to the station. However, as Luke's attention became more focused on matters of the Jedi, Wedge basically took over Rogue Squadron. I have liked Teva since the first moment I saw him. He is a man who has dedicated his entire life to defend the defenseless, to help the helpless, to rescue the repressed. He is a man I wish I had the courage to be. To sacrifice self for your fellow citizens is the most honorable act a man can commit. He gave up a wife, a family, an opportunity to make wealth, to have a quiet retirement. No, this man is a true believer who will die in the service of others and the greater good and he is probably the most respectable character in any of the different series I have seen him in.

Carson won me over, when he managed to rally off-the-books army to defend Navaro from pirates - basically against his bosses wishes. And still managed to leave some GOOD mark on the Kargas management, by his actions, as an official/officer of Republic. BTW would LOVE to see Gina Corano ending as a ranger. But think Rangers (as an organisation) should be more like the old west rangers. Agents of states with quite high power(s) and freedom(s) to solve mysteries, gain informations, support local justice systems, and enforce law according the SPIRIT of the laws.

Mon Mothma has always been spineless and impractical. Like when she self proclaimed herself as leader of the Rebellion after bringing the different Rebel squadrons together in Rebels Season 3. Then when Atollon was ambushed by Thrawn and Phoenix Squadron and all their ships and weapons faced total annihilation, thousands dead already after Commander Sato sacrificed himself in order for Ezra to reach her, she basically said "Oh you're brave, but I'll try to negotiate for fair treatment if there are any surviving prisoners." Yeah... buddy buddy to the people you are actively trying to destroy. Too fucking laid back when you shouldn't be. Saw Gerrera was right about her. She didn't help Lothal either, but a platoon size of Ghost Crew+allies saved the entire planet anyway. There's a reason why the symbol of the Rebellion and the New Republic is a combination of the symbols of Phoenix Squadron(Led by Hera) and Saw Gerrera's group. They pushed it forward.

Carson likely was a very fit soldier when he was in his 20's This may come as a shocker to some but its not uncommon for vets to get heavier when they arent in their prime or still serving...but their skills and knowledge remain. It would be foolish not to call/accept someone like Carson back to service, knowledgeable fighters with experience and likely leadership potetial would have been a big asset given the nature of the Galaxy and the Imperial's army (where most of the career leaders would be)

It is a good thing when ethnicities that have historically had very little representation in media are present. I think it's bizzare seeing something like A New Hope, which has quite literally zero major characters that aren't white in it. Search up the cast list on Google, it's a mayo fest. It's a good thing that this is changing, and it's hilarious to me that some racist weirdos have some kind of arbitrary limit where if there are too many non white or openly gay characters, they cry woke. If there's a trans or non binary character, they'll more or less have an aneurysm. Pathetic.

He's only got a decade on me, and when you're working in a field where most of your peers, nevermind subordinates are half your age... you feel elderly real quick. What I like most about Carson Teva as a character is how much he mirrors some of the characters found in some 1970s TV series. He could easily be a supporting role in MASH or Baa Baa Black Sheep and he reminds me of Sgt Dennis Becker from The Rockford Files or one of the guys in the squad room in Barney Miller. Somehow, 70s era TV understood how to present seemingly unassuming characters in casually heroic roles, just doing their jobs, better than what eventually happens in the 80s when star looks take precedence over more interesting casting choices.

Something to bear in mind that if you’ve survived the clone wars and the rebellion, including no doubt the Empire’s last stand a Jakku, you’re either really, really good or really, really lucky. Either way that makes you someone that any sensible military wants leading a squadron so it will rub off on the new pilots and polish them up. When the fit hits the shan you really want to have someone in charge who’s been here before and can tell you what to do to win. That’s also why a lot of Special Forces guys are comparatively old, they fight with their brains first and muscles second.

So great to see someone of a certain age showing how much experience blended with knowledge, integrity and courage can achieve. The guy confronted a Mandalorian covert with only two entities in it not likely to shoot him on sight. Din and the R2 unit who was Carson's Intelligencer. Who else but Carson would rely upon an old R2 unit with PTSD? The man's a genius.

The New Republic military is all over the place - Carson can land on Navarro and recruit Cara Dune as a New Republic marshal, but the NR won’t intervene when Navarro is under attack from pirates. Meanwhile, the NR patrols the space around Tatooine but doesn’t have boots on the ground to combat organised crime, blows up and murders the entire population of a small space station just to punish two criminals and, as we see on Adelphi base, whilst the NR is building sleek new ships, Y-wings are being cannibalised for spare parts.
