The relief he must have felt when he saw ahsoka alive and to hear that Sabine is still alive must have been overwhelming. But then to be told to get into a space whale’s mouth and trust that it will travel to where you want must have really made him question why he works with Jedi.🤣🤣

@@xxxlonewolf49 Yeah sure, memory wipe the droid with a 25,000 year old operating system and codebase. I see no way in which that could go wrong. As for emotions, have you seen Star Wars droids? They're rife with emotions! The number of droids who don't exhibit distinct emotional responses to situations can be counted on one hand and they're invariably HK or IG-series psychopaths. Emotions as a feature would be very important for people doing deep space exploration, since organic companionship would be resource-intense and limited. For the gender assignment thing, my bad. Went to school in France, where gender gets assigned to anything and everything. Bed? Male pronouns (le lit). Car? Female pronouns (la voiture). It's still an automatic thing for me even 20 years on. Robots carry male pronouns by default in French. Also, anyone or anything voiced by David Tennant is automatically associated with him in my book, so Huyang got a he. I didn't intend offence by assuming pronouns for a droid, my bad.

A droid who lives 25,000 years with so much knowledge of the Jedi order and Saber smithing......My only explanation is his heart is a living Kyber crystal.

That would be interesting. Maybe when he started to serve the Jedi Order, he got an upgrade to his power unit with a kyber crystal, because he'd have to store an ungodly amount of data, which would require more power to access quickly. Would be cool.

​@shakeelali3794 that was my immediate thought too...in particular Anakin. I wonder if he felt like he was responsible for Darth Vader too. He knew what went on in the temple halls, he could've said anything. And didn't.

If we include the legends stories, that means that Huyang has witnessed 2 Jedi purges, 4 Great Jedi Schisms, 2 sackings of the Coruscant Jedi Temple, the destruction of the Ossus, probably thousands of students falling to the dark side, the order geociding the Sith species, and dozens more horrific things. He has watched the Jedi order at the points where it held the entire together galaxy and the points where it numbered at less than 10 individuals.

"They never listen" I don't think Huyang was just talking about Ahsoka and Sabine, I think he was talking about every Jedi he ever went on a mission with that went horribly wrong.

I never really cared for Huyang that much in Clone Wars, but this show has made him one of my favourite droids in all of Star Wars. He's just so... human, and that shot of him looking off into the sea holding Sabines helmet almost brought me to tears.

A little bit more of Doctor Who crossing over there. If The Doctor says something like 'don't wander off' and leaves them for a bit, it practically compels many companions to disobey and complicate things.... no matter how much previous experience should warn them what will happen.

Im glad he stuck around, he has a lot of important knowledge. His age has shown just how stagnant technology has become in Star wars. There's improvements on existing tech, but not much innovation in new tech.

I mean, there are things in our world that are old but are made deferent, yet better. Remember, Huyang is as old as the old republic. We as a species forgot many technologies just in the span of 3000 years, and that's on Earth alone. Imagine a society that's been on the verge of collapse multiple times over tens of thousands of years. Stuff are bound to be lost to time. And Huyang is proof that they made things deferent back then.

I'm sure for a time he was on his own and the Empire had no reason to look for him, much less even remember he existed. And considering his age, he would have "lived" through all kinds of dark times and wars between Jedi and Sith. Someone that old would know how to not be found, as well as places in the galaxy long forgotten by most.

After reading Huyangs Wiki page on wookiepedia, I can indeed confirm that he is goated with the sauce. Huyang was not a character I was really familiar with, having not read many of the books and not really watching the shows. But Taking his age into accound that does put a lot of what he says into context into Ahsoka. The part where he says the hes still "75% original parts" imagine training jedi in combat for close 25 thousand years (probably taking part in a bit of combat himself due to some time periods of political turbulence.) and still being mostly OEM. Thats insane. Also when he pretty much says that Sabine is the crappiest Jedi hes ever seen... just lmao hes taking into account 25k years of jedi... Hes officially one of my favorite characters of starwars.

I didn't think the writers still had it in them to make the droids so much deeper, and honestly, it was grating on me. I was dying to hear what their thoughts were. It hurt me when I realized that except for Gungi, all those younglings he took to Ilum were killed by Anakin. They survived pirates only to be taken out by someone they trusted. 😢

Not only is Huyang an incredible character, but David Tennant just breathes so much life and emotion and personality into the character.

Filoni seems to love mystical weirdness and mythology the way Lucss loves politics and old WWII movies. ;) BTW: When Huyang is being sassy/insulting to Sabine, he is being very emotionally intelligent. Sabine is the type of person who, when told she can't do something, will be motivated to do it just to prove the doubters wrong. She's onery like that

I don't think people really understand just how old Huyang is. In all of Star Wars, both legends and Canon, there are 4 people older than him. These are The Father, The Daughter, The Son, and The Bendu. In other words, the only people older than Huyang are literal gods who have been around since the dawn of creation. Not even Abeloth, the greatest threat Star Wars has ever faced, is as old as him. Huyang can claim to have outlived Gods too since The Father, Son, and Daughter are all deceased.

Hearing David Tennant's voice as Huyang is saying that he told them to stay together reminded me so much of his days as the 10th Doctor bemoaning his companions wandering off when he told them to stay with the TARDIS. I just love the emotion he brings to this ancient droid.

When we first meet Huyang he mentioned past events like the battles of Rashfond to the Peace keeping of Polion. I would love to see those events take place in a novel or comic.

An important function of droids in Star Wars stories is being the chorus, a trope uses often by Shakespeare. Droids also function as a symbol of discrimination, often treated as second class, often ignored, commonly thought of as expendable. Inequality/inequity is the another pillar of Star Wars. (Professor Huyang and a few others are more the exception rather than the norm.) Also, droids can mark time as well as be as constant as mentioned in this segment.

Huyangs dismay at his squad getting wiped out because stupid resonated too deeply.

Imagine the trauma of having witnessed 25k years of prosperous Jedi history just to see 4 years of sheer incompetence and arrogance-induced blindness cause the ruin of such organization, both physically and ideologically. Worst of all: having witnessed those 25k years of Jedi victories over the Sith just to see the Order being destroyed for taking DIRECT orders from an infiltrated Sith Lord. You have various Jedi turned Sith with Exar Kun, Revan, the great hyperspace war, the over 1000 years of war of the New Sith Wars culminating in the battle of Ruusan, and the Ruusan reformation. The Jedi Civil War saw the death of Jedi across the galaxy, from the death of the Miraluka home world to random assassinations. The Jedi were completely eradicated down to a handful of "Lost Jedi" trained by the exile, Jolee Bindo and Bastila Shah

Palpatine and his master for decades corrupted the Jedis' mission more and orchestrated a clandestine takeover. There is of course Jedi incompetence and the fact they haven't prepped for fighting Sith.

Huyang has so much value that it’s easy to overlook, because he has such a wealth of knowledge with wisdom that spans thousands of years while organics can barely grasp the extent of a couple of years for they forget what it’s like to be young and few can only plan a few years ahead and think they know better. But instead of being bitter about young organics he tries to help them. He has probably learned all these things the hard way so that is why he will say things like stick together, hoping that they might just listen for once.

He knew exactly what the Jedi Order _should_ have been when it decayed before the War. But he probably had to keep pretty silent on the matter; they wouldn't want to hear or believe they were wrong, and might have frozen him out entirely if he pressed the matter instead of giving little nudges.

Would love to see Huyang in (Tales of the. Jedi) season 2 depicting how He assisted padawan (Tar Vizsla) getting His kyber crystal for The Dark Saber. 😂

I am so happy that Huyang was brought into Ahsoka. What little screen-time he had in the Clone Wars, he still made his way into my heart. Love this android, and I absolutely love that he has not had a memory wipe in 25,000 years (if any wipes at all). It's an amazing fictional case study of a droid that has not only been around for thousands of years, but has not had a memory wipe, too. The effects it has had on his personality and knowledge are clear to see, from a certain point of view, of course. 😉

His stability is also astounding. There are much newer droids that go for only a few years without even partial memory wipes and develop terminal processing glitches, let alone psychotic character traits. It may have something to do with when he was manufactured, or that he may have been a one-of-a-kind experiment that just got it right. Are there, or were there, any of the same model existing?

@@ckl9390 YES! This is a point I forget to bring up. Thank you for reminding me, I forgot about that. I remember, I forget which Star Wars show it was, I think Clone Wars the animated series when R2 was kidnapped (I believe) and I think someone was giving Anakin a hard time because he never wiped his memory, and it was brought up how if routine memory wipes were not performed that it caused irradicate and unpredictable behavior in droid's. Thanks for the reminder, apparently my memory has been wiped, haha.

For a droid being 25,000 years old, you would expect him to have better hands in a fight.

As a grandpa with three grand kids.....my job is to pass down the things taught to me, to help raise them to be better than me. As a parent you get a diamond in the rough that you cut....as a grandparent you polish that diamond. I think Professor Huyang is much like a grandfather to the jedi......he has seen the story replayed over and over and tho you can point out the right path to a youngling.....in the end the youngling has to be the one to choose their path.

I like to think that due to the jedi programing and life experience he has truly retained a good portion of their ability to process the hardships of life. he has learned to apply the knowledge of the jedi, not just recite or teach it, but to partly live it.

Who else think Huyang needed his own series after this? Of course, it can simply focused on the certain important events in the galactic history. But what is great about this is that it showed us how he always survived what the galaxy threw at him. To be exact, how the heck did he survived the Sacking of Coruscant by the end of the Great Galactic War anyway? I wanted to know about that because that might be also how he also survived the end of the Clones Wars and the even the Galactic Civil War as well.

When the camera panned to show huyang looking at Sabine’s helmet heartbroken fuckin hurt, then when he said “they should have stuck together, they never listen” broke me. Even though he’s a droid he’s one of the most human characters David Tennant has absolutely knocked this role out of the park into the lot across the street

As a diehard fan of the Jedi. Knowing that Huyang survived the purge, brought me so much joy its unreal.

Such an awesome concept and opportunity a single individual. He's never had a memory wipe, has a solid personality overall, much like Artoo, albiet far older. This guy is a droid who feels old, not by the appearance of rust or any broken pieces, but rather, his very viewpoint and outlook on the galaxy. Writing this out makes me wonder if there could be a "long lived" droid in the service of the Sith. Thoughts, anyone? I'm so glad you made this video because I was having similar thoughts as you about his longevity without a mind wipe. My head canon is such that he can (or has) go/gone so long without getting wiped because of the very nature of the people surrounding him. If a droid picks up traits of the people around it, then a droid to the Jedi order would surely be pretty level headed and thoughtful. This is the way.

Yo how did Sabine's helmet fly off her skull when she got thrown against a tree? Did she not have it sealed and locked like ANY other Mandalorian? Hell, Din Djarin has been thrown around alot worse and his helmet stayed in place.

Most important question is: How Huyang manage to survive? With his ennormous memory about Jedi Order we should assume he would be very important target for Palpatine and Vader. How he evaded whole imperial machine? Fact he, as droid, cannot be sensed throu Force of course helped, but still professor was too important for Jedi to let him tunning around. Not even mention knowledge obsessed Palpatine definitly would want to get acces to Huyang memory.

It is to my regret that there is so little crossover fanfiction between Star Wars and Keith Laumer's Bolo stories and novels. A Bolo would fit right in. They would fit in with no problem at all.

I strongly suspect that Huyang's sassy attitude toward Sabine isn't just to be brutally honest, but also because he likely has the best grasp of human psychology in the galaxy. He knows how bull headed Sabine is and knows that if he tells her she can't do something, she will dig her heels in and focus on the task. Some truly genius writing.

Dude you are so deep, I rather now think about Star wars as a Droid story

It occurs to me that huyang is probobly so stable specificly beacuse he interacted with jedi for so long and is able to use some of there techniques for self control. At the same time he was probobly also insane at some point due to shear entropy.

Data was always my favorite TNG character and R2D2 was always favorite Star Wars character. I think he saves the day more than any other character.

In the Mandalorian, it was nice to hear the droid side of the service. The gist: organics created them and are fragile, they might as well serve to the best of their abilities.

Always high-quality commentary, but this was especially good. Huyang is easily Top 5 Star Wars characters for me, and I've only known about him a fraction of the time compared to most others.

Unfortunately I never watched all of the Clone Wars or Rebels, but when I saw what this droid was capable of (ship repairs, analysis, sparring and actual fighting, as well as right and proper ADVICE), I knew he was a real one. Better than C-3PO and any other droid companion to date. I love the amount of genuine wisdom and care he shows for others unlike the other droid companions. I've only known him for 5 episodes and I already love him as my favorite.

@@CasualInTheTrees Easier said than done. That show is 7 seasons long and I don't really have the time to be watching all of that before I can really get to know Huyang's original appearance. (Actually I saw clips of it on KZread so I know how he first appeared)

Huyang was made to be a servent of the Jedi acrchive and for light saber designing. Plus he has never been forced to do things against that original purpose. For that reason he has never had a need to be "wiped" from conflicting instructions.

I liked the droid bar scene because he was talking to Bo Katan, who in another life fought against the Cylons, which were also created by organics, but turned against them.

We need a story ark going through his memories and through them the history of both Jedi and Republic. Maybe Huyang could play a role in Luke and later Reys new jedi order.

I've been wondering why Huyang wouldn't be residing at Luke's Jedi Academy as a droid dedicated to helping raise Jedi. Glad to hear a perspective on it, but I feel it's something worth exploring more.

In grew up watching both The Clone Wars and DuckTales (2017), so it was fantastic to hear that Scrooge McDuck and Huyang have the same voice actor.

My evolution of my view of Ahsoka: Ep1 and ep2: “Oh no, this is going to be a repeat of Kenobi, isn’t it” Ep3: “Wait, maybe… maybe this will be good?” Ep4: “Okay, I have hope” Ep5: _deeply considers the implications of being a droid who lived through thousands of years of history_

I never expected Huyang to be one of my favourite characters but damn he became an mvp. I think everyone would want an uncle like him.
