The rotating capital idea always seemed silly and unrealistic to me. I think a cooler idea would have been to build a big city sized space station to serve as the capital. Several sci-fi governments have capitals like that. It could even be constructed where Alderaan was as a tribute to the rebellion and everything it sacrificed and fought for. Can’t think of a bigger f u to the memory of the empire than that.

Some countries; like China and Japan had a rotating capital in the past. Everytime the emperor died; they just moved it to where the next one lives

​@@DLR1997The Holy Roman Empire did the same thing, the Imperial court would reside in whatever city the Emperor wished. English monarchs didn't keep a permanent capital until the 14th century. Parliament had been called to which ever city the King might be in whether that was London or York or elsewhere.

They are too busy subverting expectations with the sexuality of their characters to write anything interesting like that.

The new republic repeated the mistakes of the Jedi. Demilitarized themselves to appear peaceful. Like Jedi who wanted peace so badly after warring with the sith, the new republic wanted peace so bad they were willing to ignore signs that the empire was returning. Like Baylan Skol said history repeats itself.

Not to mention, this is also precisely what Satine did for Mandalore, but I think the New Republic have crossed the line with these patterns even further than what she did. What’s going to happen when more Wars come into their doorstep. In legends, they did the same way after the fall of the Empire, and that’s exactly why the Yuuzhon Vong have ate up pretty much the entire galaxy. The Yuuzhon Vong war is a perfect testament to never demilitarize the Republic just to look peaceful.

Not realizing that even after the Empire fell that there were still CIS leaders (or at least those who believed in their ideals) that had to be smoothed over in order to join the New Republic is interesting. Would be a nice "What If.." either comic or book series that the smoothing over didn't happen and basically post Empire would have two states; the new CIS and the New Republic with the First Order trying to start a shooting war between them

*Learned* in The Force Awakens? 😂 That movie explains nothing about itself. I'm pretty sure some people still think Starkiller blew up Coruscant.

I did for a while after that movie

The New Republic was so afraid to become the evils of the past, that they tried to change too much without a well laid plan. They were already walking a dangerous line, and unfortunately, favour was not with them. The best thing to do was to immediately return to Coruscant as the prime capital. Keyword being prime, the sectors should have each had a grand capital that broke down into smaller lesser capitals of the systems. From there, as it has always been, the worlds have their capitals. Each being able to monitor threats with systems and sectors being able to mobilize as they would have the authority to. This could prevent so much as if insurrections did arise, that would give them time to face the enemy while sending a message to the prime capital of Coruscant asking for galactic aid. It could also further relations between the races as aliens and humans would have to work together within smaller bodies of capitals, they would be able to know each other more directly and understand cultures beyond their own. Xenophobia has always been a problem in the Star Wars galaxy, and those smaller capitals could break those chains, leading to a better era for all. I respect what he New Republic was trying to do, Mon Mothma had seen the worst of the High Republic corruption and the Empire’s evil, she knew them better than most, she just was trying to achieve what was beyond realistic and feasible.

I'm pretty sure the only thing we learned from The Force Awakens was JJ Abrams badly rehashed the Rebels vs Empire into Resistance (though also called Rebels at times) vs Remnant of the Empire that was poorly led.

JJ Abrams was left with a train wreck from the start and he did what he could to salvage it. Thanks to people like Kathleen Kennedy, his efforts were largely wasted. That's why so many people do not believe the Sequel Trilogy are true canon, and I agree with that. I have other reasons why I hate that trilogy, but I won't go into those reasons here.

When exactly has Jar Jar Abrams ever had a creative idea or stuck the landing on an ending? The man fancies himself a new Spielberg but has at most a fraction of the capability. Why he keeps having IPs thrown at him is confusing.

the new republic in legends was defenitly smarter in that regard. sure they defenitly had their problems to but they never fully removed the military, and it took atleast a decade if not more to any peace with the imperial remnent. if i remember correctly the leader that ended up strongarming the rests of the remnent into peace talk was admiral pelion. he was the one in comand of the star destroyer chimera. this star destroyer was grand admiral thrawns flag ship.

The justification given for why the NR in Disney canon is so foolish, is that many former Imperials line the ranks of the military and bureaucracy and that they undermined the new government to help the First Order. If anything that makes them even more inept because they either couldn't be bothered to learn who still held allegiance to the Imperial way of life or didn't care beyond putting them through some silly little work program to "reform" them if that.

Moving the capital constantly just throws the entire beaucratic system into chaos every few years and as we saw it didn't give the galaxy a voice as the outer rim just ended up being abandoned to Hutts, warlords and imperials.

This is the first time I’ve heard about the capital being rotated to different worlds. To me, it sounds more troublesome than it’s really worth, and in the end it proved to be extremely detrimental to the new republic.

Going from an iron fist to a complete lazre faire government was idiocy. They cut the head off the snake but let a hydra grow in its place.

Dismantling the military was the stupidest thing to do after a brutal civil war. You need to maintain order and you can't do that without a strong military to take out imperial remnants.

You would think all of this would’ve been shown and better explained in the Sequel Trilogy if it weren’t for all the bad writing bcuz Jar Jar Abrams made it so, Force Awakens was an “ok” movie but overall it was still kinda dumb concerning the plot involving the New Republic and the rise of the First Order with it being vague and obscure that almost anything about those movies involving the story hardly ever made sense at all

Having a new capitol was a good idea however moving the capital around was not a good move because it showed that they were not there to stay that and if imperials were still there it would bring into question of which government was legit replaying past mistakes was also a recipe for disaster

This is very interesting! Definitely some good and interesting lore for the Star Wars universe. If I were in charge I’d make multiple capital worlds all in the inner core With different Rolls in the government. I’d also make space stations to act as capital outposts for the made and outer rim worlds.

Honestly the New Republic has the same energy as post WWI Europe. Bad things are happening in the festering wound they left from the previous war but they do nothing to nip it in the bud while it's small. Kinda oversimplified but still...

7:16 No way, Coruscant would have just been blown up and we wouldn't hear the end of fans wanting JJ's head on a pike. Maybe prequel fandom would have crashed the TLJ box office and we would have Solo fiasco earlier in Disney era.

Lol ya i didnt even realize there was rotating capitals. It didnt help them in the end anyways. I dont understand why writers have to make them dumb. Just so the bad guys can do some bad stuff. I mean I atched all the planets blowup but since nothing was established and i didnt know any character. It didnt have a big impact to me. Instead of it giving the impression to me that FO built up all this time and was smart and dangerous, Instead the New Reublic is just dumb af. No prep, no military, not even sensors to detect enemy ships.

Can we just say how STUPID it was that NONE of this was covered in the sequel farce. This would be highly important world building that would be needed to explain the story. But nooooo. Disney wanted to make another ANH and ESB.

Basically a clean brake from the failures of the pass in respect of the old republic and the empire and all the negative publicity associated with the old capital world of both regimes. Although given the continuing expense pf a rotating capital, would have been better off situating on Chandrilla and going from there in terms of building a new republic with a new capital world as well defended and able to offer stability and justice as it predecessor during the golden era of the old republic. .

Abrams wanted to blow Coruscant up. Disney said no, so they had to half-ass a "reason" as to why the capital planet of the Galaxy for tens of thousands of years suddenly ... wasn't. Why the hell would they even call themselves the *New Republic* if they wanted to distance themselves from the old? Legends wasn't perfect, but it made a lot more sense than the middle school fanfiction (except for Rogue One and Andor) that Disney's spitting out.

Betcha that with the destruction of the Hosnian system and the New Republic Senate and government there, the capital will move back to Coruscant. A rotating capital was always a stupid idea, because the Senate is legendary for its gridlock, and Mon Mothma was bizarrely sentimental about the days of Valorum's ineffectual leadership. So arguments about the next capital could go on forever unless they make the obvious choice and just move back to Coruscant.

Overcompensating by being overly positive and creative toxic positivity. And becoming extremely soft and vulnerable. Sounds familiar. 🇺🇸

I get the idea behind it but it honestly sounds exhausting after having to move it after an x amount of years.

So the First Order could blow up The New Republic Capitol and not blow up a cool planet Disney probably wants to use in the future.

I don't think moving the capital was a bad idea, if anything even with the destruction of the new republic capital it's still a decent idea as it means that the new republic can potentially rise again even if destroyed, but I do think the dissolution of it's military forces and leaving the capital undefended was extremely naive.

This is one of the very FEW Disney lore that deserves good credit. Here is world building at its best… …but that is where it ends. Unfortunately, this is short lived as this only flows into the failure of Episode 7 and the blunder of the sequel trilogy. Why is good writing and excellent storytelling being used to band-aid Kennedy/Disney FUBAR take over of Star Wars?

Sorry, but Hosnian Prime is a non-canon world that is just Coruscant rebranded; just as Jakku is a non-canon world that is just Tatooine rebranded and missing one of it's twin suns. Disney Wars ISN'T Star Wars, and nothing made by disney is canon, no matter how much Disney wants to claim otherwise.

Actually the reason Coruscant wasn't one of the targets was because Lucas film decided to change it. Originally, it was going to be blown up....Bad Robot wanted that as one of the targets, but Lucas film decided no. That's the only real reason it wasn't blown up. I love how all this bs history is added to try and cover up all the garbage plots from the movies, but the fact of the matter is Lucas Film/Disney has no clue what they're doing, and we're not going to get decent Star Wars anymore until Disney goes bankrupt and sells themselves off in pieces. And at the rate Disney is going with their movies lately, eventually it's going to happen.
