Yup, I travel super light. Tomorrow i leave for 2 weeks in Paris carrying: 4 long-sleeve tee shirts, 1 black cashmere cardigan and 1 in grey; 1 black skirt; 2 navy pants; underwear and a nightgown. Everything is washable. I wear boots for traveling and carry a pair of foldable slippers. Some makeup and a laptop. Loved your video.

Good tips, thanks. I never check a bag. It saves time, money and wear and tear on my suitcase. I have a soft sided carryon for clothing. I prefer the soft bag because it's more flexible in tight areas and there's always room to squeeze in another item, especially if I buy a T-shirt or two. I also use a Samsonite duffle bag for toiletries, accessories, and one pair of sandals. It fits nicely under the seat and on top of my roller carryon when racing through the airport!! I wear a fleece hoodie when flying to save a lot of packing space. It's usually cool on the plane, so it works well. I also wear my sneakers for the same reason. I don't roll or use packing cubes because I feel that's wasted space and added weight. I lay out clothing flat to use the entire interior space of my suitcase and fold over if needed. So, a T-shirt would be flat and maybe folded once with sleeves folded over. Flat items don't have the bulk or air/space in the folds or rolls. I put flat socks and underwear in the sides and spaces left at any folded parts. Also, I do coordinate tops and bottoms and, most importantly, I wear some things more than once. This helps to avoid overpacking and I can wear a souvenir T-shirt. Nobody is keeping track and I don't care if someone does. I surprise myself every time!!

We travel full time and couldn't do what you do lol. We each have a checked bag, a carry on suitcase and a backpack, and we're always worrying about being over weight. I think the difference is that we don't have a home to leave "stuff" at. We carry all our belongings with us as we move around. Thanks for the packing tips though, we did learn a few things. Cheers from Da Nang, Vietnam :)

I traveled carryon for 1 month in two climates, Iceland and Italy and Florida. You just need a few clothes that mix and match, that’s what I did for each climate. Hand washing is easy (I didn’t take sweaters or sweatshirts) and some Air B&Bs have at least a washer.

What if you purchase some things in a foreign country? How would you get those things back? Is shipping easy? Or if you buy too many souvenirs can you just purchase a large suitcase and check that on the way back from your trip?

Hello again from Nova Scotia. We really enjoyed your packing video. On our first travels to Europe we had lessons to learn and it was definitely to pack light. We are planning a trip this year and will definitely be travelling carryon only, and because it’s for 2-3 weeks, it will be light carryon. As a couple “ of mature years” , we can’t imagine travelling full time as you do but I would think it would be imperative to keep belongings to an absolute minimum, as you are essentially a turtle, carrying your house on your back/bag. Every item must do double and triple duty. We are looking forward to viewing Vietnam once more. Happy Travelling.

I only travel carry-on. Years ago we went to Europe for the Christmas markets. We were staying 3 weeks and I foolishly thought since our flight was direct from Detroit to Paris, I would take a larger suitcase and check my bag. BIG a mistake. My husband’s suitcase made it. Mine was lost for 3 days so my first stay in Paris was almost ruined. I decided to make the best of it and did a little shopping 😉. Have not checked a bag since. Next trip is to the Basque region in Spain and France…and of course, I will be carrying on. Thanks for the video.

Ok I am a carry on only traveler as well but I still overpack a bit with my clothes. Last trip for a month there were about 4 items that I never really wore. I seem to have mastered the toiletries finally as well. The tech gear is always a bit of a challenge. I am not switching to a monos carry on from the tom bihn tristar as I found it was getting too heavy and awkward for me. My partner used the monos last trip and the monos duffle and loved it. So I ordered fa monos and will either use my tom bihn copilot as my personal item or my AER sling. Great video

We spent a month on our last trip... with only carry-ons and personal bags! One thing you might try are "space bags". We use the rollup kind and find our bags hold about 30lbs of clothes and shoes etc. We keep all our electronics, docs and cameras in one of our "personal" bags, while the other one has a change of clothes for both of us and things we might need along the way. Going to Naxos (thanks for the video!) in May and June for 5 weeks, then to Athens for 2 weeks... Enjoy your videos, keep on travell'n. (Give the space bags a try, there great!) P.S. It is only ignorant selfish people that break the rules as if they hog the space with two big bags other people won't be able to bring even one on board and it is put in the hold and that isn't fair and why should anyone be that self important they think they are above the rules, they should either check the case and keep the backpacks with them or learn to pack properly and use the correct size for personal items, it isn't much money to add a bag/extra allowance if it is done the day or a couple of days before and that way others can have the allowance THEY PAID for!

I have seen some monstrous carry on pieces, that the airlines should have insisted go in the checked baggage. Australian carry on luggage is: 7kg limit, with maximum dimensions. 1 piece = 56cm long x 36cm wide x 23cm deep; Or, 2 smaller pieces = 48cm/34cm/23cm; or, 1 piece as above plus suit pack 114cl tall x 60cm wide x 11cm deep. ALL options with that 7kg limit, plus a "personal item" such as a laptop, handbag, umbrella or walking stick, reading matter, crutches or prosthetics, etc. Small musical instruments have a limit of 83cm x 34cm x 23cm (total linear 142cm) and substitute for the previous carry on.

Wonderful tips, thanks .. but I will always travel with a light crushable jacket or windbreaker and not bother buying at every destination. You can just string it around your waist and out of the way. It's also good protection from bugs when you are sitting on airline or bus seats. A flight attendant told me that. I also always travel with a sarong. It's very light and versatile and can be used as a light coverup from a shower or the beach, an attractive skirt or casual dress.

Certain situations / destinations definitely call for a backpack. However in most cases it makes no sense to us. For instance travelling around Thailand is easy with rollers. The amount of people we see sweating and struggling with back packs here makes no sense. We’ve also never had an agent at the gate target us because of a roller fyi. I understand that logic but with all of our travels that’s never happened. It all really comes down to personal preference - Trevor

They actually fit with most international carryon rules as well (if we ever have an issue it’s with weight for carry-on, not size and that’s usually in Asia). I’m really trying to master this lol lol lol, but no offense those items too basic. I LOVE playing dress up 😬 Back in September I cruised MSC 7-days excited about their crystal staircase. I had an outfit for all 7-days 😂😂😂 (duffel bag & backpack). In January, I backed-packed my last 3-day getaway and was so unsatisfied 🤦🏾‍♀️ 😂🤣Normally, I’ll take more than what I need and be weighed down 🤷🏽‍♀️ I used to roll items and find places to stuff (like within a hat). I found freezer bags help with space. Ex. Put one outfit, including underwear in bag. ZIP halfway. Sit on bag. Zip bag completely. The air has now been removed from the bag allowing for more room. Now as far as the shoes, I used to carry a separate bag (shoes only); however, not always doable. I solved that obsession by designing my own shoe 😂 I went out on last trip with only 2-pair and this is where satisfied. Lol lol lol But good stuff 👏🏾

Curious if you’re from Australia? We’ve heard from a lot of people how they weigh everything there. We take so many flights a year and believe it or not we’ve only had our backpacks weighed once! Typically what we do is if we’re all checked in and can go straight to security we won’t check our bags (we’ve literally never had issues at the gate). If we know we have to go to the check in counter we come fully prepared to check our suitcases. If we have a bad feeling we’ll sometimes pay to check a bag in advance and just suck it up. Our backpacks are always overweight! But like I said, we’ve only had them weighed one time in all of our travels. In that case we had to argue about our camera gear (all batteries and things that can’t go in a checked bag) - and they let us go. I’m sure they also don’t want to be liable for broken or stolen camera gear! -Anna
