Carl Martin: PlexiRanger PLEXI & BOOST

Музыка

www.carlmartin.com/plexiranger
Sporting the potent combination of PlexiTone and modified silicon Treble Booster, the PlexiRanger can deliver a boatload of great tones. The Boost side alone may be enough for many when you consider it's a clean OR Treble Boost with two stages of low-cut filtering on hand. But when you couple it with Carl Martin's time-proven PlexiTone distortion/overdrive, you've got a winning combo that begs you to get out on stage and rock. I was always a big fan of the original PlexiTone and I love a good Treble Booster, so the teaming of the two was obvious from my point of view. If you're a fan of classic rock tones I think you'll love the PlexiRanger. For the record, it was my idea and I'm receiving no royalty. I was, however, paid for the video. Rock on.

    The 3 button Plexitone has been one of my all-time favorite overdrives for many years now. I like the design principle behind this version even better. And as luck would have it, I’ve been shopping 2 stage overdrives! Terrific demo as always, Burgs. Thanks, brother!

    Such a great presentation of the PlexiRanger! I went and bought one after seeing (and hearing) this excellent demo. It sounds even better irl... I own a (1969) 50w plexi that I sometimes gig with: it is VERY loud and lugging it (and a 4x12) around is no fun... But it is the best sounding amp I have ever owned by far... So I pay the price. For rehearsals (and small gigs) I used a plexi SV20H through a 4x12. The plexi sound is what I'm into. For a change of pace (and more gain, hehe) I bought a Silver Jube mini head that I mainly use at home. It is a fine amp but I missed having that plexi sound. I've tried a LOT of plexi pedals to get it a sound akin to my 1969. To my delight the PlexiRanger does exactly what I was looking for: a really convincing, responsive plexi sound (even at lower volumes). The ranger side is not only great for boosting (I goose all my amps with a pedal or two) but allows me to dial in the mids and highs to be exactly where I want them to be (the jube is a bit more mid scooped than a plexi). The two sides go together like peanutbutter and jelly! The result: a gorgeous plexi tone that is very, very close to the real thing! The Jube gets played out a lot more often now... I can go from sparkly cleans to massive roar now, and best of all: there is a plexi in between those extremes somewhere! A very versatile (yet simple to operate) pedal at a ridiculously low pricepoint. Thanks, Brett!

    Carl Martin pedals are great sounding and very well made, expensive I know but you have to pay for the Danish pro-end quality, their individual pedals are excellent not sure about their multi fx units, I’m sure the sound quality and build of them will be great, if it suits you and your setup go for it, I don’t think you’d be disappointed.

    They're very different. This one marries a rangemaster-type circuit with a hot-rodded Plexi. The Colombo is a far more subtle affair that has the three main Plexi flavours with much the same gain range as the real thing. There's room for both.

    Sounds great but as with most of the Carl Martin plexi pedals theres always too much gain. The clones are the same. Even with the gain at minimum it's way too pushed. I wish CM would give more control. I tried the low gain version but I thought it was lifeless. Wampler got it right.

  • @aquilarossa5191

    @aquilarossa5191

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think it sounds great too, but I agree about too much gain for Plexi. Lots of the Plexi and 800 style stuff is way too gainy. They end up sounding more like the modded Marshall thing. Probably because that's the 80s hair metal tone much of the US market associates with Marshall. Lots of preamp gain. I suspect that to get it right they would have emulate the power amp overdriving to get the Plexi sound. The classic crunch tone of Marshall before they added a master volume control. I understood it best when i got my JMP50 clone. The preamp hardly distorts at all. Almost all the overdrive is coming from the power section and those EL-34s being pushed beyond their limits. It is a completely different sound from modern hi-gain that has the distortion generated in the preamp section of the amp, while the power amp runs fairly clean, i.e. it's the opposite way of getting overdrive (to solve the issue of getting overdrive at less than insane volume, they made the preamp distort and added a master volume. Then they modders made the preamp distort even more and the hi-gain sound was born).
