*FINALLY* !!!! A Channel that knows how to do a *PROPER* multi pedal comparison! THANK YOU! Using proper guitars and the same chord progressions for each pedal. Not sure why this concept is so hard for other channels so I’m gladly subscribing to this channel… you did not waste our time here… this was PERFECTLY done. Pedal comparison: That Carl Martin was Devine! Wampler also really nice with the SL being right there as well. Those three in particular did very well. Thank you again for this comparison… it was by FAR the best video done on these pedal types. I’d be really curious to see how the Charlie Brown and the PAL800 would do in a similar shootout. Many thanks again for this video as it was super helpful. 👍🏻

I agree. THIS is the way to do a proper demo. I also agree that the Carl Martin and Wampler sounded the best to me. I would have rather seen the .45 Caliber used for the J Rockett pedal as well as have the Ramble FX Marvel Drive v3 used in the demo, but still this is how videos should be done 👍

Carl Martin sounds clearly the best to me. It has a clarity that the others don’t. The wampler sounds good too but a little heavy in the bottom. Which can probably be tweaked out.

I have to echo many here in saying that the Carl Martin sounded best, with Wampler running a very close 2nd. After listening to these comparisons, I pulled the trigger on the Carl Martin Plexitone to run into my Frenzel 800FM Rack Preamp. I'm going to pedal stack it with the Canyon Crayon 69 pedal.

  • @markn4526

Nice comparison! Full disclosure...I own one of these pedals and I love it. I think you have to go into this comparing the pedals based on which one sounds the least like a pedal and the most like an amp. I eliminated the Mad Professor and Wampler due to this. I generally like pedals from both manufacturers but not in this comparison. The Mad Professor sounded like it was "trying too hard" and this like all the Wampler overdrive/distortion pedals (except the Ratsbane) seem to have an annoying, metallic chirp built into them which I don't like. The Purple Plexi sounds very dark to me and SL sounds a little thin. As for the Animal...sometimes it sounded OK and other times it didn't with a flubby midrange. The Carl Martin pedal was really good and is my second choice. The best one, in my opinion, is the Dirty Little Secret. It's marketed as a foundation pedal that could be on all of the time having all your other pedals run into it because it reacts like the amp it's supposed to emulate...a Marshall Super Lead or a Super Bass depending on the position of the internal dip switch. It also has controls just like a Super Lead/Bass. The only thing I would like more about it is if the presence control could be adjusted externally rather than internally.

My DLS running @ 18 volts on super lead mode sounds ( to my ears) far better than what I heard here. I feel like the tone of this pedal can be...vibrant? And this depends on how you dial in the sound you are looking for. Still, I really like your approach to doing reviews! I am happy I subscribed.

In which case 9->18V must impact the sound of the DLS in a different way, than what I have experienced with pedals offering 9/18V (18V = harsher tone, more 'in your face', more 'glassy' treble & less refined mids) Funny thing, I found the DLS to sound most artificial/'pedal' in this test... Yea, I guess another case of ears, eyes, and YT-compression... sigh!🤞😉

Purple and Mad Prof sound somehow wrong to me. Not bad, just not open enough or EQ'd like a Marshall. Animal and DSL are sounding okay, but maybe better in the room? The Carl Martin sounds pretty good, but might not have a wide range between lo-hi gain? Hard to tell. Was debating the DLS, SL and Wampler, but now I think the SL is the right one to try first. Thanks for the excellent comparison!

What! My DLS sounds like the video, which is crap with the same setting as the video. Have you ever used the real thing? Or read the manual? Did you set it in Super Bass or Super Lead mode? Please dial it in and redo the video. The Carl Martin and Wampler seem like good choices also.

You done it all wrong with the DLS eq section.. I'ts not like a classic eq when you cut or boost freqences, on the DLS when it all on max the eq is flat, from there you can just cut how you like... You cut it too much, that's why sounded so dull Otherwise great video!
