Carl Jung - The Importance Of The Individual! (1960)

"You always have to have something that is good for thousands, for a million, but not only for the individual person, he is too uninteresting! We are too convinced by science how futile a human life is! (.. .) And the individual is so convinced of his nothingness, that he doesn't bother to somehow get somewhere with himself, to somehow develop inwardly... - It's too hopeless: The individual is nothing! And of course, that is a wrong notion, that the individual is nothing: the individual is the vessel of life!" Carl Jung
Carl Jung (1875-1961) in a great interview on the topics of the individual, the religious and the transcendent with Georg Gerster on June 7, 1960 in Küsnacht (for Swiss radio). You can find it in full length (37 minutes) here: • Carl Jung - The Indivi...

I feel like this is how modern information on internet works. Their are millions of advices, paths you are deemed to choose, people you should listen to. But, at the end of the day, there is only one things you should listen to; And that's your own inner voice, controlled by your head and heart. Because why choose someone else path, while you have yours? Nobody knows you, and can know as much as you do. Do whatever you want. Have courage, be different, and develop the real you.

I have been trying to tune out the social media recently. I would block it on my entire network and I can feel it having a positive impact on me. I am more productive when I am not using social media. It's like we all should be striving for our individuality but social media kinda wants to turn us all the same or turn us into a member of collective. I am not sure if I am making any sense but the more I think about it the more I want to stay away from social media or anything that drowns my own individuality. I know I should not be extreme in that regard too. Like all things in life everything should be in moderation. As long as our individuality has positive impact on the collective and the collective has positive effect in shaping our individuality we should be fine.

I really like this kind of videos. Genuinely without exaggerating, it really does change my perspective on our society and that's the simplest way to put it.

Imo in order for the community to exist, the individual has to bring sacrifices on a daily bases. In a community the individual is nothing. But alone one is free, that's where the good part is.

I needed to hear this right now. I'm considering a career change to become a writer, but I'm so convinced that I'll fail and nothing matters anyway. I wish I didn't feel this way because it makes it hard to feel motivated to achieve my dreams. Carl Jung put it perfectly, and I hope one day I can actually believe that I am important.

Sadly all I see is how most people will take this in a version much removed from it's intent such is the way people visualise themselves & the world. Generalistic, yes, most certainly. Realistic, doubtlessly.

Is this Austrian? I’ve never heard Austrian spoken, it sounds far more similar to Flemish than I imagined. Almost more Flemish than German!

(if this is just German - how embarrassing for me 😂 but also genuinely confusing as I could understand so much more than I usually do of German!)
